Week at poly or blt

we are torn between picking a week at BLT or poly- both would be a studio two adults and a 5 year old.

Thoughts?

What will be your focus? Both BLT and Poly are fine choices. BLT will give you a more modern vibe and access to a good, not great, pool as well as an easy walk to MK and the monorail. The studios are among the smallest in inventory. Poly studios, I believe, are larger and have the unique feature of having a split bath. Plus, you have a bit more relaxed atmosphere (less hotel-like) and nicer pools. The monorail gives you quick access to MK, though not as quickly or easy as simply walking from BLT. Look at the activities each has to offer; look at their themes; look at their advantages/disadvantages. Decide which fits your wishes better. I like both, but if I had to choose with a 5-yr old, I'd likely do Poly.

Feel wise I do not like BLT at all. Poly is more my thing. However I never actually stayed there to judge how valuable the walk to MK is. We have annual passes and are going back Christmas week so we are not cramming all the parks in a day or two chilling at the pool while traveling to the other resorts to eat.

At Poly, you can walk to TTC for the Epcot monorail. (Which is nicer than the extra monorail hop from BLT) so the advantages are a draw if you have an equal # of days.

Poly has a better kid splash area, too.
I'd lean Poly if you are not pushing a stroller to MK.

I'd say Poly then. BLT doesn't really fit my eye as having a laid back vibe, either, but I've stayed there twice and enjoyed it each time. Having the access to MK and the monorail is hard advantage to beat, but since you won't be cramming in the parks, then that issue becomes less important. I definitely find Poly has a calmer, more relaxing feel to it.

Poly has more space in the unit, but less storage space for clothing. Very easy boat to MK, or Monorail to MK or EPCOT.

I own at blt and prefer poly. Much bigger room, much better pool.

I own at both BLT and the Poly and love them both for different reasons. You really can't go wrong with either. Have a great trip

We own at BLT, IMO it's a nice resort but I don't get the Disney feeling there.

And for me it's likely the most "Disney" feeling. Looking out your window and seeing MK - it's as Disney as it gets. Or looking down at a pool with a big neon Mickey and having the Space Mt pictures and Mickey and Minnie hanging on your wall - all Disney. Walk out the front door and in 5-10 minutes your're walking in the gates of the Magic Kingdom.

I enjoy Poly and think it's a very nice resort but it doesn't say "Disney" quite as much.

I like the monorail but the MK view to me is mostly rooftops. The contemporary design elements makes me feel like I could be in any hotel anywhere. The short walk to the MK is nice but the pool is just so, so.

One thing that Disney has done nicely is that there is something for everyone.

Thing is that hotel feel is where Disney is taking things with the new refurbs. At this point BLT is practically dripping with "Disney" vs BWV and BCV. I still enjoy those resorts but they could just as easily be a resort somewhere else. Same with BC and now YC is really removing theming from what I've seen.

New resorts get the "A" team while retfurbs get the "B" design team

Poly is also fully themed, from the custom carpeting featuring Tiki gods on up.
And while the interior of the resort takes you away... if you walk towards the beach, you get the property's best, straight-on view of the castle. (Can even see the castle while sitting at the Lava pool.)

I prefer BLT for families with young children. The studios are smaller than the ones at PVB. But being able to walk 10 minutes even pushing a stroller and be at MK is a plus IMO. No waiting in lines for the monorail or a ferry. And the kids love the pool at BLT. There are two slides, a smaller one that is perfect for a five year old. And you have the option of using the pools at the Contemporary.

Plus depending on room BLT and dates of travel you can get a studio at BLT for less points for a week.
