Ok, dbf and I booked Akl for the wed to sun after labor day. My assumption is that it will be quiet then because all the kids are back in school.
Has anyone stayed during this time period?? What was it like?
How is the weather? Did it rain alot?
Will the Night of Joy make it busier?
Any help would be appreciated. We usually go in the spring so I have no idea what to expect.

Last year it was totally dead everywhere. Walked onto everything, including Test Track. Night of Joy will affect only the MK. Rained a bit, was hot and humid all week. Nothing I couldn't handle, but I like hot and humid.

Totally agree...this is one of our fav. times to go!!! We used to wait until the kids were back in school... to bad our kids are in school now!!

Remember its better to be hot and humid with no crowds than hot and humid with crowds.

PS Nala-- I love hot and humid weather too!!!

My favorite week to be at WDW ... I am so jealous!!!! It is quiet and gives you plenty of time to relax and enjoy!!

Awesome...we'll get alot done and then when it gets hot in the afternoon we'll hit the water parks. Thanks guys !!!

Do the parks close alot earlier. We usually go in March and MK closed at 7:00

We've travelled in September twice- both after Labor Day weekends. It was very manageable and just hot enough to crave an ice-cold lemonade. Just take a siesta from 11:00-1:00 and you'll be fine. If I remember correctly (2001), AK closed earliest- maybe 5:30 or so- and MK stayed open until 7:30 or 8:00- Epcot and MGM had different hours of closing as well- weekend hours were usually raised by one or two. But none closed before 6 besides AK. Also I've found that the majority of kids you see there are from the UK (some spend the whole month of September there-love the accents) or are homeschooled(as in ours- we love going when "offical school" gets going). We've also been in February or the second week of January- all three times are free of lines during the weekdays and just a little congested mostly with native Floridians taking a break on the weekends. We try to buy a 5 day park hopper and hit the parks on the weekdays and lounge around the pool on the weekends. Works out great! Enjoy!

My DH and I go this time every year. There are no crowds at all. Last year we rode Test Track 4 times in a row without getting out of the car. Don't worry about closing time because with the crowds so low, you will have more than enough time to see all the attractions. This is a very relaxing time to go. Most of the kids at this time are very small. We will also be there this year at that time. I can't wait.:Pinkbounc

Ditto, our favorite time also. Planning to go this year in September, and ANXIOUSLY awaiting discount codes for WDW hotels, preferably Beach Club! We haven't been since September, 2001 - yes, we were there 9/11/01 :( .

Night of Joy - 1 problem - no late saturday night at MK meant no fireworks or spectro that week. It would have been nice for it to be moved to another night, but nope! We were there 2 saturdays, so it wasn't a problem for us.

Weather - several evenings it rained (POURED!!) for about 2 hours. I specifically remember 3 nights out of our 8 that this happened. It was always during dinner time.

There was some other rain during the day, but it didn't last long, and by some luck of the weather gods, we were always indoors at the time. :)

Love It!! The only problem is NOJ and the lack of fireworks/parade.

I Love The Hot, Humid Weather Too!:sunny:

So far that's our favorite week to go. NO crowds and we have been very fortunate with the weather, although it is technically hurricane season. Walkon everything... no waits!!

We'll be heading there during that first week in Sept. too. It's not just Disney, travel is always slow this time of the year with all the kiddies back to school.

Still haven't decided where we are staying yet. Waiting for the new codes to come out. I've only stayed at the CR before (4 times on business), but the tower rooms have spoiled me. I'm hoping for a code good for the CR, otherwise it may be the CBR for us.

Since it's the kiddies first trip (B7 & G5) I dont think they will care where we stay.

Either way, we're heading to WDW! :)

Seeya there..............

That's the week we have chosen, too; grandkids are homeschooled.

We are staying at BCV, so when it gets really hot, we'll just toss the kidlets into SAB and we'll sit in the shade.

I went last year from September 15-22, I also home-school my child. It rained every afternoon for about 10-20 minutes, humid, humid, very humid. From Texas but don't like the humid weather, yuk but like everyone else said, no lines so it doesn't bother you as much as if you were standing in line for hours. We did need to use Fast Pass on Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh in MK, Star Tours in MGM and Fast Track in Epcot. Planning another trip for the same time this year. You'll have a blast.

Big thumbs up to First Weeks of September!!!!!

I think that I get so much more for my money when we vacation at the time. The first year I went in September we were hit by "the hurricane", even with that damper on our vacation we will not say no to a September trip. Yes, it is hot and the weather is unpredictable, but the lack of lines and crowds makes it a winner in my book.

I was there once when the Nights of Joy were happening at MK. It did not ruin our trip, however we felt that we were being over run by teenagers :)...Does anyone know when that is this year?

I have to agree with everyone else. We went back in 1998 and arrived on Labor Day night and stayed the whole week and there were absolutely no crowds. I think it rained just once and that was while we ate lunch and by the time we finished, the rain had stopped. It was hot and humid, but it was tolerable due to the lack of crowds.
We're going there the last week of August this year, since my older DD is now in school, I'm hoping the crowd situation will be the same as the week following Labor Day.

Have a great trip:D

Not to be Gump, but what exactly is Night of Joy? Is it always in september and will it ruin or days at MK if we go to the park on that day?

Thanks,

The Nights of Joy are a friday & saturday when they have Christian music concerts at the MK. The park closes early & admission to the concert requires a separate ticket. The shows are supposed to be good. I think the rides are open.

We debated going, but decided not to. I have heard that there are large groups of teens there, and they tend to make me irritable. :)

Other than the lack of fireworks/spectro that weekend, it's a great time to visit!
