Okay, I know in the long run, this is probably an incredibly trivial thing, but it's driving me INSANE. :lmao: DF and I are getting married fall 2012 on a cruise. Because we're having a destination wedding, we set up a wedding website where people can get information on how to book their cruise, hotels for the night before, what's included with the cruise, all the rules, etc. Basically any question they have about how things work - it'll be on our website.

Anyway, we're having an issue with what .com we want to use for our site. The most popular ones I've seen are like:

AmyandJoesWedding.com
AmyandJoe.com
MillerSmithWedding.com

.. stuff like that. So here's my dilemma. I have a really really weird last name - no one can ever spell it right, so I don't want to use that in the name at all. The other is that DF is Zac. Not Zach, Zack, Zak, Zachary, etc. Just Zac. He's worried if we use our first names, people will try and type the wrong version of his name - his own mother writes 'Zach' half the time. So anyway, we were thinking.. if his last name was Smith (it's not ;)) we would just have our website be www.SmithWedding.com

Does that make sense, or does it seem weird? Technically it would be the Smith wedding, since we would both me Smiths after the wedding.. but I feel like it just sounds weird.

Now that I've typed this all out, it seems even more trivial, but I know it's going to bug me if I think it doesn't sound 'normal'. So, any opinions or alternative suggestions? :flower3:

In my experience, most people won't even know how to get on your website period, no matter the domain. (Unless, of course, you run with a younger crowd than attends our family weddings ;)) How will you be letting people know about the website? If it will be in writing, it will be clear how names are spelled. If it's in an email, all they have to do is click a link, no worries about spelling.

If you're going to buy a domain, I suggest buying one you could continue to use after the wedding (i.e. amyandjoe.com not amyandjoeswedding.com)

FWIW, if someone is going to pay to attend a destination wedding on a cruise, I hope they can figure out how to spell your fiancé's name!

I could not agree with this more. I would send an email with the domain to make it as easy as possible for people since this information is very important for EVERYONE who attends in addition to sending out written notices. I will warn you though that very few people that I know that had wedding websites were happy with how they worked out. Most people just did not use them to get information and still asked the immediate family or bride/groom EVERYTHING!!!!!

From DH side of the family. His sister married into a Polish family with a long hard to pronounce and spell last name. When one of the neices from that side of the family got married, they did a website similar to what you are doing.

She went with a combo of their last names. Shortened hers to the first 4 letters - Prez, then his full last name. It's after those 1st 4 letters that most people can't keep straight. That is an option.

Or use initials. ZSandABwedding.com

We actually went through weddingchannel.com We sent the link via email to people, but also people could log onto weddingchannel.com and there is a place to look up the registries/site/etc. You can look by either last name and don't even need the first name.

A bit more work than point and click, but then we didn't have to rely on people remembering either my name or his name or both. They just needed to know one.
