I'm getting married in December and I've started thinking about the ceremony. I've decided I want to walk out to a song, not the traditional Here comes the Bride.

I recently have fallen in love with the song All of
Me by John Legend and would use it but the first lines make it sound like a song about a breakup. I also don't want to use something like At Last because it seems too typical, if that makes any sense.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a song I can walk out to? The ceremony is at a hall, not in a church so it will be more relaxed than a traditional wedding. I am also not religious so I don't want a hymn either.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What about an instrumental version of one of your favorite songs?

DH and I both love Muse, particularly their song "Starlight". I found an instrumental, string quartet version of the song on iTunes and that was what I walked out to! To everyone else, it sounded like just a pretty, 'classical' song, but to us, it was so much more! I absolutely loved it. There are tons of instrumental takes of popular songs by professional musicians on iTunes. :thumbsup2

I am a little partial to this one***

Longer, by Dan Fogelberg

Longer than there've been fishes
In the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars
Up in the heavens
I've been in love with you.
Stronger than any mountain cathedral
Truer than any tree ever grew
Deeper than any forest primeval
I am in love with you.
I'll bring fires in the winters
You'll send showers in the springs
We'll fly through the falls and summers
With love on our wings.
Through the years as the fire
Starts to mellow
Burning lines in the book of our lives
Though the binding cracks and the
Pages start to yellow
I'll be in love with you.

Longer than there've been fishes
In the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars
Up in the heavens
I've been in love with you
I am in love with you.

***yes, this is the song I walked down the aisle to

For instrumental versions of pop songs that are AWESOME check out Vitamin String Quartet. I walked out to Love is All Around by The Troggs, and our guests were arranged around us in a circle. I thought it was pretty special.

Congrats on your big day!! :)

YES! Vitamin String was what we used! We also had a CD with their versions of a bunch of our favorite songs playing while everyone was enjoying hors d'oeuvres...including a version of Kanye's Golddigger. :lmao:

But whatever you decide OP, it's going to be much more special and meaningful to you if you use a song you both love. There really isn't a perfect suggestion anyone can make for you, you have to find YOUR song!

My best friend walked out to "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri at her wedding last year. I was traditional and walked out to Pachelbel's Canon, but after we were married we walked back out together to the Ramone's cover of "What a Wonderful World"

I totally agree with you. I'm just hoping for suggestions that I can watch on YouTube. You, know how it is..you watch one and link to another and then another and before you know it you're watching a video on making Amish furniture :rotfl2:

I don't know your taste in music, so here are a few. I was a wedding professional for a while, so I've seen a bunch.

The Bee Gee's How Deep Is Your Love..... always a good one.

Any of these strike your fancy??

I walked down the aisle to the theme from Star Wars... it was awesome... but it's definitely not for everyone. I thought it was epic as all get-out, though. :)

At the end of the ceremony we played "Two Drops in the Ocean" by 311 because they're my husband's favourite band and seeing as we got married on a pier over the ocean, it seemed appropriate. I have a tattoo on my wrist now with the song title, got it for our one year anniversary. :)

We didn't have a traditional reception, but if we had, our first dance would've been to either "Beyond The Sea" by Bobby Darrin or "The Best Is Yet To Come" by Frank Sinatra.

DH and I both like Trans-Siberian Orchestra...and we're both known (to friends and family) as "rock-and-rollers"...so our processional was the instrumental first 30 seconds of Christmas Canon Rock by TSO. It's Pachelbel's Canon in D, but heavy on the drums and guitars. Our DJ looped the middle section of it to give the bridal party enough time to come in, then I came in when the guitars really got going.

I would also suggest the Vitamin String Quartet - I have some of their tribute CDs (Duran Duran, the Cure). There are also piano tribute CDs to many bands out there as well.

We loved our wedding music. Our recessional was the last part of the Finale from Nightmare Before Christmas (below). Our reception introduction music was the theme from Star Wars (family) and Indiana Jones (DH and I) (we all love John Williams!). Our first dance was Lovesong by The Cure - the original fast version. We played some of DH's heavy-metal favorites, like "Rainbow in the Dark" by Dio and "Turbo Lover" by Judas Priest (and I have a great photo of DH and his more-than-buzzed best man/brother giving the Dio devil horns). And our last song? "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" by REM :p

Another good choice is the one that we used:

Wedding Song (There Is Love) by Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul and Mary fame)

The version that we used is from the album "The Solo Recordings (1971-1972)". It was suggested by our DJ and was perfect for us. As we walked out the DJ played Elton John's version of "Chapel Of Love". When we were introduced the song playing was "Lean On Me" by Club Nouveau.

Is there a particular Disney movie or song that touches your heart? Perhaps you could find a cover or instrumental of it?

DING DING DING I think we have a winner. We both love this movie and have watched it many times together. I don't know why I didn't think of this! This song, and that part in particular, would be perfect. Thanks for twigging my brain to it. :worship:

We got married at our local state park overlooking the lake, a place where my DH and I often went for free dates. My aunt's 2nd husband played the acoustic and electric guitars. He learned the traditional wedding march and recessional for the electric guitar. It sounded absolutely awesome. He already knew "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on the acoustic guitar which we chose for our wedding song. He looked and sounded like Aaron Tippin and people at our wedding actually applauded when he finished singing before the ceremony.

I happened to hear him playing "Stairway to Heaven" on the acoustic guitar and asked what it was because it sounded kind of familiar. I said play that for when the wedding party comes in. I still think it's kind of funny. No one really remarked on it but it was really pretty played acoustically. During the rehearsal, I heard my other aunt say "That's a pretty piece of music." She asked if he wrote it and I just said "no" without explaining. He just looped the prettiest part until the wedding party was all set up.

I walked down the aisle to Patchelbel's Canon in D. I fell in love with that classical piece when I was a teenager. DH and I were married in our church. Our pastor at the time had an issue with Here comes the Bride being played for any bride being married there. At first I was a bit ticked, but then relented and opted for Canon in D. Now when I here it or TSO's Christmas Canon, I think of my wedding day 14 1/2 years ago and smile. If DH is around when it's played, we dance together  In hindsight, I'm glad that we couldn't have Here Comes the Bride. It's more special to us having a non-traditional piece of music to help us remember one of the happiest days of our lives.

I walked in to Pachelbel's canon as well, and our first dance was 'what a wonderful world' (Louis Armstrong version).

went to a beatles themed wedding once (down to the groomsmen in replicas of the sgt. pepper's album cover outfits:thumbsup2). bride entered to john lennon's 'woman', bride and groom exited to 'all you need is love'.

I walked to "Here Comes the Bride." Our wedding party walked to "Pachebel's Canon." Our first dance was to "I'll Still Be Loving You" by Restless Heart.
