Wedding Protocol.....

I missed the special!!! Does anyone know if and when it will re-air? I'm soooo jealous! As far as what to do. If you opt to not do the wedding, I saw on their romance package you can still do the carriage ride. Who says you can't show up to the park in your dress anyways and have pictures done? Just a thought.

Just an FYI - Disney will not allow you in the parks wearing wedding attire.

I would NEVER expect a bride and groom to pay my expenses for their destination wedding!!!! If they sent me a "save the date" card, I would plan on it being my vacation, or I would just plan on saving the money required to spend for the wedding, and if neither of those were an option and I couldn't afford top go, then I would send my regrets and a lovely gift and not go. I would consider it a bonus if they had an open house back home that I could go to.

We were married in FL 14 years ago and had quite a few out of town guests come to the wedding. Many went on the vacation at WDW afterwards. I grew up in FL but my DH was from OH and we both had just attended college in NY. We did not pay for anyone to attend the wedding even family.

I think most were happy to have an "excuse" to vacation in the Sunshine state! :sunny:

Have fun planning your wedding!

I had a Disney wedding last December. Disney really helps you out making it clear to guests that they will need to make hotel reservations. You select 3 resorts (people typically pick 1 value, 1 moderate, and 1 deluxe, but that is completely up to you) where rooms are blocked for your wedding group. The rooms are discounted, and guests receive info on booking in their Save the Date mailing. Disney sends this out at the 8 month mark before your wedding. Info on discount park passes is also sent out.

Believe it or not, we were very surprised at how many people DID come to our WDW wedding. We had about an 80% acceptance rate, and we were shocked! My Event Manager said that it is interesting that Disney weddings often have very high acceptance rates since people are very curious about what Disney weddings are like.

You are not expected to pay for guests travel/accomodations by any means. Have fun planning your big day! :)

We had out Disney wedding in March. We invited 75 people and had 48 guests accept and attend. Our families would have been traveling one way or another to attend out wedding (I'm from PA and live in Cali, he's from NY, his family is in FL and he is stationed in Korea right now-We are both military).

Disney sends out Save The Date letters with information on discounted resorts stays and park tickets to your guests several months out. You can also make arrangements with airlines to provide a "group" rate airline ticket, if you have severa people traveling on the same airline (doesn't have to be from the same airport) or from the same airport.

I just wanted to expand on what a few others have mentioned about saving the date cards.

I have a friend who lives in Washington and had told people she was getting married, which helps to spread the word so people at least know that you're engaged and are planning to get married.

About 6-8 months prior to the wedding, she sent little envelopes out to anyone who was out of town (which was almost everyone). She's a graphic designer so she was creative in doing this and put it on several little cards, but basically it said they were getting married on such-and-such date at the specific place and they would be sending out formal invitations later, but they wanted to allow people from out of town enough time to plan if they were able to join them (but would understand if we were unable).

It mentioned the nearest airport, and that the wedding was taking place on an island and how to get to the island (I can't remember if there was a bridge or you needed to catch a ferry). They had arranged special rates at several hotels of varying rates and mentioned the hotel nearest to the location as well as other hotels in a more populated area since the wedding was in a relatively remote location.

And please do not feel at all guilty about travel costs. I have been to weddings on other islands as well as in other states and have never once given a second thought about the costs.
