I've just been looking at some of the wedding thread photos & have noticed that alot are taken inside the church, near the altar.

Is this a common thing in the US?

Do you have many taken outside near the church as well?

The majority of our wedding photos are taken outside the church, unless it's pouring with rain then the photographer will usually take them all inside, usually near the back of the church.

we had ours taken all over the church. We couldnt do them outside much though because we got married in February. :)

I think it is very common here to have them taken inside the church in front of the altar. Most photographers will also do some outside shots if the weather is good.

my husband and I had our wedding outside so we did all our wedding photos in the park - thousands of beautiful yellow daffodils were the background. Everyone liked them so much that my brother and cousin both took wedding pictures outside (one in the same park and one by the beach). Usually though the photographer takes pictures during the ceremony and after.

For our wedding and for all weddings I've been in they have done the families, wedding party, and bride and groom on the altar. Then if time and weather permits they've done some outside too. It's so common that it never occurred to me that it could be done any other way!!! LOL!! I have no idea when the tradition started though. In my parents day you went to the photographer's studio. They didn't haul everything to you.

We did pictures at the alter of just me and my husband. We did the family pictures outside the church. Then we did bridal party pictures at a local park before the reception. I told my photographer that I wanted all formal pictures taken care of before the reception so I could enjoy myself.

I had seen the bridal party pictures done in front of the altar, but I didn't know it was at all common!

The only pictures there are of DH and I in front of the altar are pictures of the ceremony! Family pictures we took outside the church and wedding party pictures we took at a park nearby.

Yes, it usually is because many couples still wait to take pics together until after the ceremony, and they don't have much time in between their ceremony and reception to jet outside and take pics.

Which is why we did pics before... because I'm not all for altar pics, but they are VERY VERY common. =)

Good point Belle, it never occured to me...........we also have 99% of our photos taken outside in the chuch grounds & also in parks etc. I think we only have one or two taken inside the church & that was when we were walking back down the aisle.

All group pics were taken outdoors.

That's interesting - I've never heard of that before.

Thanks for the replies. :)

We married in Las Vegas, so there wasn't really an 'outside'.

the only photos we had taken inside the church are the ones taken while the wedding was going on. we had me, my parents, and my girls taken at my parent's house before the wedding, and all others done outside of our reception site.

I didn't even get married in a church. I got married in the restaurant where the reception was! We had NO outdoor pics, since it was raining and cold out (November). Next time, I'm ordering nice weather! ;)

We had our pictures taken all over the place (gotta love professionals that use digital cameras - no need to worry about how many they take!)

Most of our formal pictures are in front of the altar, but we got married in a beautiful old Catholic church that was renovated a few years ago so it made for a really nice setting. In a lot of the formal pics, though, the background is dark enough that it just disappears.

I guess it is pretty common here, but it makes sense to me - it's a natural setting given that is where the actual wedding occurs.

It was really sunny out, so we had a few taken in front of the church, including one of my faves that I posted on the other thread. We used a signature frame (wider mat that people could sign) instead of a guest book, and that picture is perfect for it because it shows all the people that were there.

We also had lots taken around the grounds of the conference center where we had our reception. They have a walking path around a lake there, and the woods made for a nice setting - just like we were at a park.

The one in my signature was taken by a friend of mine in front of the church (facing the school across the street) as we were waiting for the limo to show up (he was a bit late).

My brother & sister in law had tons taken inside the church, outside the church, in surrounding areas and at the reception.

Thanks, Belle!

My florist really outdid himself - a very artistic man who does this as a side job. I went to the wholesaler with him to pick out a couple of color/flower combinations that I liked, and he went to town with it. I knew they'd be great, but they turned out even more beautiful than I expected.
