One of DH's co-workers got married in mid-June. We went to the wedding, in the bride's hometown, 3.5 hours away. Since my DH was doing lots of business travel around then, he did not want to go to the reception, as that would have resulted in staying overnight, and driving back on Sunday.

So, we drove for 3.5 hours, to go to her wedding, gave them their gift, and then drove 3.5 hours home.

Over 2.5 months after the wedding date, we received a preprinted thank-you note, with a preprinted label on the envelope.

This type of thing just offends me.

As always, I feel much better now- thanks for listening.

That is incredibly rude. I know that it takes a long time to write out thank you notes, but it's the least you can do when someone goes out and buys you a gift. You don't even have to come up with anything original. Just send everyone the same thank you, substituting the name of the gift each one gave you. It takes some time, but it's mindless work, and it shows you care.

Heck I drove 2 1/2 hours to a wedding, paid for a hotel overnight and gave a gift in April of 2004 and I am STLL waiting for any type of acknowledgement that they even got it! The only way I know they did is that the check was cashed!!

I just finished my thank you notes this week and each one was personalized for each person. I would never think about doing a pre-printed one that's just rude!! Yes it took sometime to do but I got them all done within a month of our last shower (which was after our wedding).

ETA: We did not use any of the gifts until a thank you card for it had been mailed and that included the George Foreman Grill I wanted to use the second we received it.

We got married in May 2004 and had 250 guests. So needless to say there were lots of thank yous to be sent. We handwrote on the inside on each and every photo thank you card we mailed. I made time on nights and weekends to finish them all within 2 months. I just wanted to be done with them. We felt people took time to attend our wedding, celebrate with us, and give us a generous wedding gift...with that guests should atleast get a more personalized thank you from the bride and groom.

Some people.

I was maid of honour in my best friend's wedding. She asked me to write all of her thank you notes for her while she was on her honeymoon. Even gave me samples of her handwriting so I could make it look she'd written them herself.

So, preprinted or not, at least these people are upfront about their laziness. LOL.

Oh my! Now I've heard everything. I think some brides think that it's "bride's slave" instead of "bridesmaid".

How sweet of her to provide samples of her handwriting. :rotfl2:

I think it's rude too. I sent personal ones out after my husband and I got married too.

I sent one out thanking a woman in my husband's family for an under the cabinet can opener she'd gotten us and I informed her how much use we were getting out of it. It was a LONG time later, but I finally got around to opening the box to find out, the can opener was actually not a can opener at all. She'd used that box to wrap up something else. I was SPEECHLESS I tell ya!

You think she might have known I lied? :rotfl2:

My question is Did you actually do it???? I would have told her to take them with them on their honeymoon and write them themselves!! No way in heck would I have done that!!

My thank you notes were delayed, but only because I asked DH to write his. When it became obvious that he WASN'T going to do it, I wrote his share. So much for sharing responsibilities. :rotfl:

and

If your marriage is anything like mine, it's not changed since. :rotfl:

Thankfully, DH was great about helping out with the thank yous. :) We started to receive gifts a couple months ahead of time from out of town guests and sent those out right away.

Why does this offend you?
Are you kidding me ... look at your tag line ... it reads "Just because something is easier, doesn't make it the right thing to do."

With that quote lies your answer as to why this is offensive!!!

Well, I am ashamed to say that yes, I did actually do it. I know I shouldn't have.

When I received my thank you note in the mail handwritten by my very own self, it was just so touching I just had to wipe a tear from my eye I tell ya. LOL.

(Yes, I DID write one to myself - I thanked myself for the beautiful and generous gift AND for being such a good friend in taking the time to write thank you notes :teeth: )

this is the best laugh I have had all night!!!! That is too dang funny! If you're going to do it, you might as well have fun with it.

I think you should have accidently switched the addresses on that one.
