Wedding gift ideas-- need help!!

I'm attending my nephew's wedding in a couple of weeks. He's 33, been living with his fiancee for years has a good job and a home full of stuff. What do you get the couple in this type of situation? No registry... I'm lost.

the green stuff...cash, that is. Then they can use it to buy whatever they need, or want. A toaster, house payment, pizza, a movie. We used some of our gifts on dinner and an extra night for the hotel.

If a couple who would normally be expected to register doesn't, it's often a subtle sign they want money.

Ok, so how does one offer up the cash? Just stick the card on the gift table? I'd hate for it to get lost. Honestly, I've never given cash for a wedding gift before. It's new to me.

Usually they have a basket for cards, just put it in there. You can do a check if you feel safer doing that.

If you want to give a gift, here's a possibility. For his wedding, I gave my brother (who had lived with his DF for 5 years) a nativity scene -- Fontanini used to make a wedding gift set with the stable, Mary, Joseph and the baby (I'm not sure if they still do -- we're between generations getting married). Then for Christmases and anniversaries I bought them other pieces to the set. It makes a lovely gift that the newlyweds generally don't buy for themselves.

At least around here, lots of couples have a special container for cards. I've seen boxes with a slot, a cake model with a slot, and a birdcage once.

If you get there and there isn't a card holder on the gift table, give the card directly to the groom or one of their parents. They'll take care of it.

Also, I know people are saying "cash" but it's usually easier for the couple if you write a check. That way it can be conveniently deposited in the bank and they can't lose track of who sent it. Sometimes cash can get separated from its card and you can't figure out who sent it.

Though cash is always appreciated, if you want to get a gift I would get a picture frame. When Boyfriends sister got married, they were both in their 30's and had established a home already so no need for the usuals. What I did was went to Things Remembered in the mall and got a picture frame and had the new last name engraved on it. The frame I got was called the family tree. She loved the gift and said she would have never even looked for it for herself.

We didn't register for any gifts when DH and I got married (second wedding for both of us.... we were combining 2 households and didn't need the usual household stuff)... a lot of people gave cash or checks (always nice) but we also received a beautiful Lenox frame that was wedding themed. LOVE IT! It is something I would never spent that kind of money on, and everyday I look at it and smile. I also got a really nice wedding photo album that I love. One girl got us a really figurine by Willow Tree of a man, woman, and two boys which is beautiful and symbolizes our new family. I know that Lladro makes gorgeous figurines too... my mom has one of a bride that she got when she got married and she loves it.
