hi,

this is my first post to this board, and i have been using it daily for the past few weeks in preparation for a week long vacation to the disney world resort in a few months. i have not been there since 1998, so this board has given me so much useful info about stuff i need to know, so let me begin by saying THANK YOU!!!

my question to all of you Disney experts out there is this. i am going to propose to my girlfriend while at Disney and have 3 different ideas of where to do it:

1) i actually got a reservation on a speciality cruise leaving from the POLY during one of the WISHES shows, thought i would do it on that cruise, then probably get PS at California Grille or something of that sort within the MK area.

2) i got a reservation for a 8pm POLY Luau dinner show. would do the show, then walk on the beach at POLY to pop the question (hopefully when fireworks are in progress at MK).

3) also got a reservation at the hipdeedo musical review. would do that then reserve a carriage ride around the hotel property. this one was suggested by a Disney CM at CRO.

My friends at work say #1 is the best, but I would like to hear the input of the Disney experts out there and would be interested in any additions to any of these ideas to make this a very special evening. oh, we are going to WDW for 8 days, the POLY Luau reservation and the HopdeeDoo reservation would allow me to propose on the first night...the WISHES cruise would be the 5th night...so I would have to wait impatiently through the trip. so my second question is...is it better to propose the first night or mid trip?!?!?!?

thanks in advance for all of your input.

WELCOME TO THE DIS REEDYCREEK!!!

You remind me of my DH...sooooo romantic!!!!! I like #1 the best too. The whole boat ride thing is romantic at dinner time and then the fireworks to go with it is PERFECT...it's so UNREAL! She's going to love it! Soooo sweeeet! :P

but there would be a huge advantage to your "intended" to be proposed to on the first night and to be able to walk around telling herself "i'm engaged"

Hi ReedyCreek and welcome!

They are all great ideas (though I also think #1 is my fave). One thing to note: if she is at all suspicious that this might be happening, you might want to get it done the first night. My sister-in-law couldn't stand the suspense when her boyfriend took her to Hawaii and blurted out (from the bathroom) "So are you gonna propose or not?" You definitely want to avoid that! If your GF has no idea, then you can take your time. Good luck! I'm sure it will be the most special moment of your lives.

I think you should work something into one of the shows. I know there's a segmant during the Luau where they asked all those who are recently married or engaged to get up and dance. Maybe you could ask her dance, and when she's confused (because you're not married or engaged yet) you could drop down on one knee and propose right there. Try getting in touch with someone from the show to see if this is possible. The wishes cruise sounds nice to, but based on your post you sound like you can't wait. I'm sure whatever you do, it will be magical!!! Good luck!

I sure hope you don't get stage fright. Do you want to propose in front of a crowd or something more intimate? That's the question I should have asked first. Good suggestion kandmwedding.

Ooooooooooooh, I like the "ask her to dance when they tell married and engaged people to dance". I think that would just floor anyone!

Have fun, whatever you decide and have a great trip!

Congrats on the engagement ;)

I prefer a more "private" engagement.

Take that cruise, then go to Cal. Grille.
After fireworks, out on the observation deck, after everyone has gone back inside, pop the question.

wow thank you so much for all your input so far!!! i've been reading these boards for a few weeks now and most of you are really knowledgeable and authoratative on WDW. this board has already made my trip so much more special with all of your insight and tips that i never knew.

about the POLY luau and the segment where they call up wedding and engagement people...that sounds like a real magical idea. i think i have the gall to stand up in front of a crowd and do something like that, not sure if my GF does, but it would sure be a memorable engagement! i really like that idea. how on earth would i contact Disney and tell them of my intentions to do such a thing? also, are we all sure that they still do this segment in the show??? help!!!

i am in favor of #1 (the WISHES cruise) too, but i dont think i can wait 5 days at Disney to propose. i wish they had availablilty on 10/21 for us, but they dont, although i call back every few days to see if anything opened up. the POLY idea seems awesome too though. ugh decisions decisions.

I'm not sure the direct number for you to call, but try calling the same number you called for your Wishes cruise ressie and ask them to put you in contact with someone at the Luau. I'm sure they'd be able to, especially once they hear your reason.

Also, try searching the boards for "engagement" or "proposal". This topic has been brought up a bunch before, so you're bound to find other threads with more ideas.

Good luck!!

Oh my gosh! He wants to pop the questions in front of a crowd! You are sooo brave! Yes, waiting 5 whole days would kill me too. She's going to love it which ever way you choose to ask. :teeth:

I really think you should contact someone at the Poly and set the proposal up for that evening, you may even get a little extra pixie dust thrown in. This would also give you the whole trip to celebrate your engagement.........she's pretty lucky to have someone like you! I am sure you have enough time to get it all arranged....good luck.....I hope she says yes:sunny: I always get chills when I see people get proposed to in front of a large crowd....happy chills and happy tears of course!
