How far in advance did you order your dress?

Before I start looking for wedding dresses and such, is it too cold in the second week of January to wear a sleeveless dress?
I really wanted to take some outdoor shots so I want to pick a dress I won't freeze to death in!

I ordered my gown 11 months before my wedding. I had a strapless in December at Sunset Pointe and I was fine, even with loooots of wind. If your worried about it you could always get a wrap to go with the gown for when your outside.

I have had my dress for a couple of months now, but when I found it, I couldn't pass it up. My wedding is Dec 21, and the gown is strapless as well. But, when we were down this past December, the temps were quite warm, 70s during the day, so I don't think it should be too cold for you.

Like Melissa said, you could easily just purchase a wrap to go over top of your dress in case you are worried....

My wedding was October 20th and I ordered my dress the beginning of March. Much to my surprise it came into the bridal salon in July (they had said it would be 6 months).

I live about 150 miles west of Orlando and it's still beautiful in January. We had a cold snap January 7th - 8th of this year. DH and I went to Disney for the day and it was 30 degrees in the early evening, but that was unusual. If you're from anywhere cold you'll find January weather in Orlando to be quite mild.

I checked the history of the weather for my day at www.weatherunderground.com just type in "Lake Buena Vista, Florida" and scroll down to the "history and almanac" section. The averages it gave were very accurate for my wedding date, it was a gorgeous day.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the tip! I like having some sort of a "heads up" :thumbsup2

Don't forget that you can usually find a dress that fits you and take it home with you on that very same day. If it needs to be altered, you can arrange for that at the time of purchase or shortly thereafter. When I went looking (at the last minute) for a gown to wear to my vow renewal, I found one that was perfect for me and bought it on the spot. I was fortunate in that it didn't need to be altered. This all happened approximately one or two months before my vow renewal ceremony. Just thought I'd mention that.

Have fun dress shopping when the time comes.

Yes, you can find amazing dresses here and there and take them home that day. Many discounted dresses and David's Bridal expects just that. However, a traditional wedding gown from a traditional store takes 4-7 months to order and you need to add on 6-8 weeks lead time for alterations. Happy shopping and keep us posted! Check out the wedding dress thread for some beautiful ideas from other Dis Brides!

Depending on the designer the shop I worked for carried what I thought were nice quality beautiful gowns and it took 3 monthes from the time you place the order to get it in (Mori Lee, Mon Cheri AlfredAngelo Ginza Marys Impression" So you want to allow more time than that, however I am looking at an Amsale and Alvina Valenta and the Amsale they want 20 weeks....so it varies

not sure if it's revelant. but if the dress is coming from China, there could be additional lead time depending on what time of the year. Heard from a store that plants there shut down for weeks for Chinese New Year (Jan-Feb).

Yes that is true- we used to have that issue with prom girls- Also sometimes it get hung up in customs which is the reason you should order early to give yourself some breathing room.

The dress I really love is from China so I guess I should probably order it soon so I can give them time to make it and allow time for their celebrations.

I ordered mine about 6 1/2 months before the wedding. I was late in coming in and my final fitting was 3 days before I left for Disney. I wasn't worried about the fitting because I had a private seamstress, not the dress shop do the alterations.
