So I had to share this with my fellow brides...

Two years ago, my younger sister was searching ebay for clothing. She came across this beautiful white/champagne wedding dress. It was custom ordered from China, and was only $107! She thought about buying it even though she was not even near engaged and only 21. She never ordered it, but always thought about it. So this past summer, she got engaged and thought about the dress but she could no longer find it on ebay. She asked me to search for it, and in searching for my dress, I came across the exact wedding dress that I was going to order from Alfred Angelo after I dropped some weight. The dress was custom order from China and only $168 (the one at the bridal shop was $1350). I couldn't believe it. However, I was skeptical about ordering the dress.

My mom convinced me to try, because worst case scenario we could send it back and order it from Alfred Angelo. So last week, I took my measurements and bought the dress off Ebay. It said that it would take 6-7 weeks to get here. Imagine my surprise when it shipped on Monday, and I found a Fedex notice on my door today!!! So I drove 45 minutes to the Fedex office so that I could see the dress today (I couldn't wait until tomorrow...) Let me tell you... it is gorgeous and is the exact same dress that I tried on in the store... and I saved almost $1200.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know about this, because I know that a Disney wedding isn't always cheap, and I just saved some money to put towards Cinderella's carriage!!! Woohoo!!!:thumbsup2

Congratulations - I wondered about using a similar site for mine but I was too chicken. I guess it's really not much money to take a gamble on when you factor in the potential savings. I might use them for a formal dress when I need one. I think I remember correctly that LurkyLoo (Carrie) got her dress of eBay too but I could be losing my mind and mixing up trip reports.

I can maybe post some photos later, although I'm not quite sure how to do that! If anyone could send me a PM with some instructions, I can work on getting up a picture by the end of the weekend.

I was really chicken at first too, but people convinced me that I really didn't have a lot to lose, because I could gain a lot more. I'm glad I took the gamble!!

I was just worried about getting the actual designer dress, and not a knock off, you're so lucky that the dress you bought is the same as the one you tried on!

i too bought my dress off of ebay through a seller in china and i was skeptical as well, i actually bought 2 dresses from her one for a xmas party and then my wedding dress! and the thing is it is a one of a kind dress so noone else has one like it!

They are knock-offs, they steal the design and sew their own with lesser quality materials and workmanship (for the most part, obviously $$$$ doesn't always = quality) BUT as negative as that sounds, LOL, it's actually a good deal, most people wear their dress once (maybe twice for a TTD!) and then it just sits anyway so it doesn't need to be super quality unless you think your future daughter would wear it :D

Yes! I got my dress off eBay, but it was through a US-based bridal store that also sells on eBay, so it was the actual "designer" dress (using the term loosely because it was made of polyester and had a zipper and was worth nowhere NEAR the $1,300 that my local bridal shop was charging!).

Before I knew exactly which dress I wanted, I seriously considered buying a Chinese knock-off on eBay. I have heard a few horror stories about low quality, but when you consider that most of the $$$ "designer" dresses sold in boutiques are made in China too, not that great quality either, and (as previous posters have said) you're only wearing it for one day, it seems like a great deal!

I too bought my dress on Ebay, it was a sample from a dress store gone out of business. My winning bid was $35 on a Casablanca gown!! I had a slightly different approach, I filtered to sellers only within the US, and bid on designers I could name. I also looked for seller's photos that were not that good, because most people glazed right over them. I then verified the style number on other websites. I wound up not saving that much money because I bid on quite a few others that didn't work out.. :rolleyes1

So, my suggestion is to try on and find a dress or dresses that you know look good on your body and then go after it!

:goodvibes

That's a great point—I had tried on my dress already, so I knew exactly the size I needed to order.

Considering I had to try on more than 60 dresses before I found one most flattering me, I'd never recommend ordering off eBay site unseen. :thumbsup2
