Wedding Crasher: Lurkyloo’s 4 Parties in 3 Nights with 2 Cameras and 1 Fabulous Hat

Well are you at least going for your birthday in July? (If you say no, your pass will spontaneously combust.)

I would LOVE to go for my birthday! LOVE IT! I don't think it's going to happen tho - I've got to drop off the show and have a refresher rehearsal or something like that. PLUS my pass is all blocked out for July and half of August. Why can't DH's many years at his company count and give us the pretty, shiny card that DOESN'T have block out dates?!

There is a chance I can do my actual B-day for free, which would be AWESOME! I won't know until the last minute but, maybe, if you are available, we can go together and ride some rides?!

Another lurker HERE!!!!! Loving the report. The cake looks DELICIOUS!!!! I'm a girl after your own heart. I love CAKE and MORE CAKE!!!! To me, nothings better for breakfast. I've always wondered how those Coldstone Cakes tasted. They look yummy!!!!!! Nice present also. I'm so in need of a new camera as mine is 6 years old and only 3 mp, etc. etc. Have you taken any photos at night yet or better yet during the fireworks at DL???? I'm really curious how they will turn out. Let us know please. Will this mean more pictures of cake too??? :) Thanks for sharing your great trip with us. One more thing, any suggestions for a cake at the GF. My DH and myself will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this Nov/Dec with a PD meal and I want to order a cake. You seem to be the cake expert! Which fillings don't need to be refrigerated. Thanks!!!!

I'm glad Patrick had a nice birthday. I'm looking forward to the pics:thumbsup2 Great choice for the cake, too!

Nice cake! NICER CAMERA!

I hope so! I'm a little insecure about not getting him a Canon.... :cutie:

Tell me about it! It is SO addicting. What's weird is, from my experience it seems that most DL vets don't like WDW......I think that's just crazy. How could a Disney lover not love a whole city of nuttin' but DISNEY??

I know what you mean! The first time I went to the MK I was all bitter and comparing all the rides to Disneyland, but after a while I just forgot all about it and enjoyed myself! I think some of us D-land fans just have a chip on our shoulder because many non-West Coasters deride D-land as too small and not having enough to do...:confused3

I'll be at DL a lot this month (tonight ~ one last go 'round with the White Cheddar Cheese soup before F&W is over, 6/13, 6/20 & 6/21) so maybe I'll see ya around!

Dagnabbit! I never did get any of that soup this year... poop... But if we end up going this month, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a girl who looks just like Cinderella and is holding a pink ball gown! :thumbsup2

Ok I am all caught up. Huck looked so darn cute in his little mickey ears. The Root's pictures of Celebration makes me want to move there even more and I love the camera you got Patrick for his Birthday!!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY PATRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! (on Patrick's behalf) Let me know when you move to Celebration so I can crash your pad constantly! :rotfl:

As far as I've figured out, since my bday is a blockout day, my only options are a 1-day, single-park ticket, or the value of said ticket ($69) towards an upgrade. But paying the $40 blockout fee and getting a $69 gift card is a no-go :( Booooo. (Upgrade to Deluxe pass it is, then!)

Oh no! I've heard about that, but never heard of it happening to anyone I know. Booo indeed. It does seem very un-Disney like that there's this catch for people with certain passes. I think a Deluxe upgrade sounds nice though! (We just fork out for the Premium APs cuz lots of times Saturdays are the only days we can go. And if you go early enough, they're often way less crowded than Sundays!)

Totally. I don't get that at all. :sad2: I don't think I can go on your actual birthday cuz it's a work day, but if you stay over, maybe I could catch up with you Friday after work!

Welcome from lurkdon! And wow - congrats on 25 years! Patrick hasn't even turned the camera on yet (too busy working - :sad2:) but we'll definitely be taking it with us to Disneyland soon. I know the pix won't be DSLR quality, but they've gotta be a darn sight better than our aging 3MP point-and-shoot takes....

Regarding cake, all the mousse fillings need refrigeration (although I can attest that I ate a piece that had been out for 12 hours and survived :cutie:), so vanilla or chocolate buttercream are the only nonperishable options. Well and the straight fruit fillings (like strawberries, but not strawberry mousse). It might be worth getting a fridge though, if you had your heart set on a fancy flavor! :goodvibes

I'm glad Patrick had a nice birthday. I'm looking forward to the pics:thumbsup2 Great choice for the cake, too!

Thanks! OK, more pictures coming your way...

The first thing we did when we got out of our cars at Hollywood Studios was have Nathan take The Most Important Photo of the Day.

“OK, everybody remember where we parked!”
434.jpg

We waited for the tram. We didn’t wait long. When the tram arrived, we got on it. I probably bonked my head. I don’t remember what order we sat in, but no doubt Jensey was in the middle of us, cuz she’s a hot commodity. The tram started moving. It went, oh, about 500 yards (I’m not good with distance – it might have been hectares…) and then made a U-turn toward the front gates. The tram proceeded toward the front gates. Above us, the tram speaker buzzed as a bored teen recited the park hours in a monotone drowned out by the roar of the smelly diesel engine. (Is this installment stretchy-out-y enough for ya?)

This is the part where the tram made a U-turn – can you feel the excitement?

You can pretty much guess what happened next: We went into the park!

This picture makes Sid Cahuenga’s *almost* look like an authentic Hollywood bungalow, except there are way too many people around and not enough of them are homeless.

Since we had time to kill, we decided to try for what I think is the favorite DHS ride of all three of us, Rockin’ Rollercoaster. But I could be way off base – Nathan & Jensey may be more partial to the thrills of the scarily un-lifelike busts of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza.

This is what walking at DHS looked like 50 years ago…

…And this is what it looks like today.

You know, Disney’s been pretty lucky with the Aerosmith association so far, but what if they had chosen, like, White Lion instead?
446.jpg

I didn’t think we had nearly enough Tower of Terror photos yet, so I asked if the Roots could get even more photos as we waited in line…

"Peek-a-boo..."

"...I see you!"

Yeah, that’s right – we *totally* went in the Artist Entrance!
451.jpg

The only thing I like about watching the pre-show is the recording engineer, who is played by one of the members of my all-time fave comedy troupe, The State. You’re prolly too young to remember them, but you may have enjoyed the more recent fruits of their labor, such as Reno 911 and the scripts to such instaclassics as Herbie: Fully Loaded, The Pacifier, and Balls of Fury. Oh, and Night at the Museum I & II. And, in researching this paragraph, I have discovered that on July 14th, fourteen long years after their MTV show was cancelled, they will finally be releasing the entire thing on one DVD. Whohoo!

As Heidi and Crysty can attest, on a real LA freeway this sign would be malfunctioning our out altogether.

Nathan & Jensey ended up several rows behind me in the car (because apparently I looked like I wanted to babysit a solo tween). When we got to the takeoff point in front of the tunnel, the anticipation of that first blast-off lasted a little longer than it should have. And then a few more seconds passed and we still hadn’t moved. Then a few more… certain people who may or may not have been me started to worry that there might’ve been a malfunction of some kind and that once again they were nearly going to miss their flight.

Little did I know that the reason for the delay was actually NATHAN standing up in his seat to take pictures or shoot video or impress Jensey or something! … Even worse, none of it was captured on film for me to show you – boooo!

Finally Nathan was forced into his seat by a giant robot arm, the countdown started, and off we went.

OK, I know we’ve only been on one ride in this whole installment, but I’m going to save the Great Movie Ride for the next installment because I have so many amazing pictures for you!

I will leave you with a few more gratuitous shots of Tower of Terror….

Oh.

Mah.

Gawd.

I *loved* The State, and when I mention it, I usually get this totally blank expression from people.

I remember running around the gym in HS when we were playing ping pong holding up the balls and yelling "I dipped my ballz in it!" :rotfl:

i know its been said by many but now its my turn..... uhm...

THE ROOTS TAKE AMAZING PHOTOS! :worship:

phew~ i feel so much better. lol but seriously there are number one on my list if we ever decide to have a DFTW. which by the way you wont have to crash... bc you will be invited. as long as you can write my trip report. bc you have the magic touch :wizard: of making us all feel like we are right there along side with you. when we are truley in our bathrobes and sipping coffee way early in the morning. :surfweb:

Carrie - I am about to BLOW your mind....

Joe Lo Truglio and I were friends in high school...Go look at my facebook..He was very funny...I remember how estatic I got the first time I saw him on The State.

He grew up in Margate and was in Drama back then (go figure!!)..He and Bobby Cannavale came from Coconut Creek High School Drama....so did I, but I am in construction..go figure!
(the guy how plays President Martinez on "Cory in the House" graduated from CC in 1976 with my sister)

ok...enough of my sleepy hometown!!

Okay, call me strange, but last night when I woke up at 4:00 a.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep I thought I needed to give you a recipe for nothing other than Frosted Peanut Butter Brownies since that seems to be a passion of yours. So yes, this is OT. Sorry!!! Here goes:

1 ½ c. butter or margarine, divided
1/3 c. coco
2 c. sugar
1 ½ c. flour
½ t. sale
4 large eggs
1 t. vanilla extract
1 (18 oz.) jar peanut butter
1/3 c. milk
10 large marshmallows
¼ c. cocoa
1 (16-oz) package powdered sugar
Cook 1 c. butter and 1/3 c. cocoa in a saucepan over low heat until butter melts, stirring often. Remove from heat, and cool slightly.
Combine sugar, flour, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add chocolate mixture, and beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until blended. Add eggs and vanilla, beating until blended. Spread mixture into a greased 15 x 10” jellyroll pan.
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Remove lid from peanut butter jar, microwave peanut butter at MEDIUM (50% power) 2 minutes, stirring once. Spread over warm brownies. Chill 30 minutes.
Cook remaining ½ butter, milk, and marshmallows in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring often, until marshmallows melt. Remove from heat, and whisk in ¼ c. cocoa. Gradually stir in powdered sugar until smooth. Spread over peanut butter, chill 20 minutes. Cut into squares.

This is a FAVORITE of our family. My sons fight over them. I can make a pan on Friday and they're gone by Sunday. Hope you will give these a try along with anyone else who LOVES peanut butter and chocolate. They may take a little work but it really is all that horrible and believe me they're worth the effort. Sorry I hijacked your trip report. I've got an idea, you can post a picture of the brownies with Patrick's "new camera". ;) Can't wait to read more.

Lynn

HELP

I know Carries recipe for the marshmallow squares are around somewhere and I cannot find them and want to make them really bad!

Can anyone point me to it?
TIA

Well, yes, upgrade to the Deluxe does have its perks! :thumbsup2 (Unfortunately, my pass expires in October, so that's as long as those perks will last ).

As Heidi and Crysty can attest, on a real LA freeway this sign would be malfunctioning our out altogether.

Or it would say, "Time to downtown: 60 minutes". :rotfl:

Oh Carrie! I so think I see your grandma in this pic!:rotfl2:

Wow! Your trip reports are the second best thing since bread came sliced (I told the Roots that they were the best yesterday!) Your TR was hilarious! I've even got Rob reading it - and cracking up as I type. :lmao:

More please!

Miss Carrie, I am a HUGE fan of your TRs! Love your great sense of humor and it makes me smile that you are friends with Jensey and Nathan after they photographed your wedding. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside for some reason. :goodvibes

Strangely enough, that reminds me of this:

I took this during a recent trip to DC. Now obviously, it is no Rootography and my little alien guy is far less important than a photo of a parking spot---but it still reminded me of that one anyway, so there!!! ;)

The Roots are onto something though. We may be driving to the MK for the first time in October for MNSSHP and I know that based on just seeing those lots, getting lost would be way too easy. I'm going to keep this in mind.

By reading your TRs, I learn something new everyday :thumbsup2

Just love your trip report it is fantastic-it makes me think I am right there with you, wish I could write as descriptive as you do and with a sense of humor as well. I am a huge WDW and Disneyland fan. I was lucky enough to be at Disneyland on opening day a long long time ago. Actually eons ago. We still go back as often as we can and do WDW a few times a year. I have been lurking here but had to tell you-Thanks for the Memories:):):)
