Webkinz? Cheap or Not?

I work in a Hospital Gift Shop and we carry them. Ours are $10.99 each for we are a non-profit Gift Shop. The Sherbert Bunny went out fast but usually we don't get the traffic like a Hallmark store does. These are the new collectables like the TY Beanies were a few years ago. Very educational though! dd has two and loves them. they are very educational and such a great idea!

Is there a webite(es) that have like a forum to discuss these (like which ones are new and rare and retired - that sort of thing??)

I think the two rarest are the Cheeky Puppy and Cheeky Cat which were retired. I've seen a few internet sites that have listed the Cheeky Puppies at $999. I'm not sure anybody is actually paying that - but you know how these things go. It seems like there are always more than enough nutcases with more money than common sense to drive these markets.

Black Labs are pretty rare right now. Sherbet Bunny is big for Easter and very hard to find. I don't think it is retired, just hard to find due to Easter and probably not many more shipments before Easter. There is also a White Bunny which is easier to find.

The Valentine Love Puppy is also rare because that was a limited edition.

Later on in the Year there is going to be a Black Halloween Cat and a Reindeer at Christmas. Some stores are taking pre-orders for those.

Well, I have to thank you guys.

My 8 year old bought a Webkinz for his 5 year old brother for Christmas, but only because it was the correct size and softness, he knew nothing about webkinz. So, after reading this, I went and got it (It still had it's tag on it), and my youngest son and I got him set up.

they are having a blast with it.

I will definately have to go pick some up for Easter, because now my two older sons are complaining that they can't play.

I had no idea what we had, until I read this thread!

OMG I don't even want to tell you how many my DD10 has:rotfl2: The craze hit here about 1 1/2 years ago and hasn't stopped. I had to set down rules that she could only buy/get one per month. Because of the price, these are the birthday gift of choice -- so much so that for my daughter's party next week (Nick Kids Choice Awards Bday Party) I have told her to ask her friends NOT to give webkinz -- tacky I know, but last year she invited six friends and got five webkinz and although she loves them, she was really disappointed when she opened the third one, the fourth one, the fifth one....:sad2:

I am also concerned with how much time she spends on the computer with them. I know as her mother I can limit her time and I do but she keeps telling me how educational they are and really fights the fight.:rolleyes1

It's funny that a previous poster mentioned Penguin??? because this something she told me today she was asking for as a gift. Something about it being $6/month or $30/6 months. Oh boy, another computer thing!! Between Webkinz and Millsbury, I have to drag her off the computer. To boot, guess what her dad got her for her birthday?? Her very own laptop -- don't get me started:scared1:

Bealls sold out of the golden retriever DS wanted (he was shopping with me). I hope it's an easy one to find!

I think they're fun, but I'm not sure about the educational value.

I just took "the tour" on the webkinz website and it said that you can chat with your friends?

What is to prevent some perv from buying one and acting/chatting like a child do get access to young children? The website did not mention any safety precautions, or at least none that I saw.

I can only hope that this is a safe website, otherwise these toys wouldn't be this popular???

If you know about the safety of this website, would you please post?

Thanks!
Lisa

DD said you can't just "talk" to people. There is a list of phases you have to use. Or you can send gifts or play games, but you can't just go on and type in whatever you want.

DEFINITELY a safe site!! DD is 7, and I've spent many an hour playing since October (when she got her first one) with her. The chat feature consists of pre-written scroll-down menus. You basically put 2-3 parts of a sentence together. There's no free-type IMing. To "invite" someone over, they have to be a part of your child's friends list (and on the other person's friends list as well). Basically, you each have your own house and buy furniture, toys, clothing, etc. You invite someone over to play a game or to just walk around their little house.

I wouldn't be too worried. Like a PP said, it's not the MOST educational toy, but it does have its merits and is very well designed. DD was the first in her class to get one, and now most of the girls have 2-3 different ones.

I've been searching online, to no avail.. so, it's time to come here with my question.

I've read that Lil' Kinz don't have full web access, as in, they can't visit other people's homes.

Is this true? Or is it the same online for both lil kinz and webkinz?

thanks!

DD has 2 Lil Kinz, and they both have full access.

thanks.

One of my kids has a lil kinz, and one has a webkinz. We can't figure out how to visit each other, then I started reading on epinions.com, that the lil kinz can't visit rooms.. so, i thought, perhaps that was the problem.

They are doing chores around the house like crazy, to earn more, and if the webkinz get to do more, I was going to encourage them to save up the two extra dollars.

Thanks again!

The Lil Kins we pay $7 for and the larger Webkins we pay $11 for. DD has 8 of them right now. I get them at the local Hallmarks and Carlton card stores around here. I also got her the Sherbet one that came out for her Easter basket.

I got DD that one too for Easter! Were you lucky enough to find it in the store? I had to buy it on Ebay for $28  . It is really cute though. She also has a white Yorkie that she got at her Bday party.

I luckily found 1 sherbert bunny at a local store. I called 10 in the area and they had one so I ran right out to pick it up. DD loves it, she was having a bad day so I gave it to her early. I was excited and couldnt keep it untill easter. She is also giving the yorkie for a birthday gift friday to a girl.

Does Gantz set the price? The reason I ask where I got sherbert they all were $13.99. I had bought the other ones for $10 in 2 other stores.

A local here in TN had one left but the store owner wanted $75 for it  . That is just not good business IMO. So I bought it from ebay for which was much cheaper. I"m also looking for the pink poodle but I refuse to buy anymore on ebay.

Delta is just a stone's throw from us. You don't happen to work at Christopher's do you? If so, you've probably waited on us as that is where all six of my daughter's Webkinz have come from. :rotfl2: Small World.

I work at the Village Peddler in Whiteford. We've got a whole bunch ordered, but who knows when we'll get more.

I don't know where in TN you are, but if you are in the Eastern part of the state, the Hallmark in the Asheville Mall, Asheville, NC has the pink poodles (or at least they did a few hours ago);) . Might be worth going on the Webkinz site, getting their number, and giving them a call.

I got 4 sherbet bunnies from the local Hallmark. One of for DD and the other 3 are gifts for my friend's DDs. I paid $11 each for them. DD has a polar bear, frog, panda, a white bunny, cat, unicorn, Love Puppy, and one more but I forgot what it is. She is getting the sherbet bunny for Easter.

Where in MD are you from? I'm also in MD and I had a rough time finding Sherbert (but did!). I was never able to find Love Puppy and we have at least 6 stores locally (w/in 5 mi) that sell them. Did you have a hard time finding Love Puppy? BTW, my name is Lynn, also. :thumbsup2

I am in Pasadena. The local Hallmark usually has the newer Webkins. You just have to catch them at the right time. I went back in a week later to grab another Sherbet for a birthday gift and there were no more left. I just happened to go into Hallmark to pick up some Valentine cards and saw Love Puppy. There were tons of them there but I had no idea the popularity of them. I could have made a fortune on Ebay! LOL!
