Weather question....leaving tomorrow!!! Help

I live with in 30 minutes of the parks, and can fill in some of the blanks. Typically the storms that come thru do just that. They come and go in less the an hour usually. It's rare for a storm to park itself over the state and do nothing but rain. It will rain maybe thunder and lightening and be gone.

This far out, the weather guessers can't get today right, let alone 3 days from now. Chances are that the rain chances that are predicted will change in both % and days. The last few days was predicted a 70% chance during certain hours and I'm still looking for that raincloud.

What I would do is to download a weather app such as weatherbug and use that. It has a radar map tied to your location and hourly weather predictions. I just looked at mine for this weekend and it is showing 50% from sat until thurs.

Yeah if things don't cool down a bit I will be so sad! The nice temps in the 80s is why we love going in April. We specifically avoid the summer months because of high temps and humidity. We'll see I guess!

The heat isn't what you think it would be. I'm actually sitting at the TTC now it it's showing 75 on my phone and there's a nice breeze. There's plenty of places to cool off in at the parks.

I no longer look at the long-range weather forecasts when we're heading to Disney World. Here's why. I always used to obsess about the weather for our Disney trips. In May 2009, we were 2 days out from arrival but one day from departure (we drive from PA) and the weather forecast looked great -- slight chance of afternoon showers a few days, but no "all rain" days. And the temps looked great - mid to upper 80's all week. We headed out on our drive thinking we were going to have a fabulous weather week. By the time we arrived at Disney, the weather forecast had changed for that day....heavy showers moving in that evening and lasting through the next morning. Ok, no big deal. We can survive. Well, "showers today and tonight lasting through tomorrow morning" became the forecast forecast for the entire week we were there. We had a few brief hours of sunshine each day, but the vast majority of our time in the parks was during sometimes torrential rain storms. One day it was raining so hard that when we got off of the monorail at MK we couldn't even see The Contemporary Resort and we were ankle deep in water at the bottom of the monorail ramp. That was day 2. We had a total of 13.5 inches of rain that week. They literally brought in giant shop vacs to suck up the water that was pooling on the walkways of the resort.

Fortunately, I always make sure everyone in the family has at least 2-3 pair of broken-in shoes on any vacation we take. I also always take a bunch of disposable rain ponchos -- but those didn't cut it on this trip and we purchased the Disney ponchos (best investment that trip -- they will replace them for free if they tear). Most of our family prefers to wear sneakers/athletic shoes to the parks even in the rain so we had soaking wet shoes every day. Every night I'd stuff dry towels/washcloths in the shoes to dry out the insides. In the morning, I'd pull those out and let them air dry the rest of the day while we wore our other pair of shoes. We'd repeat the process every night. I carried a drawstring backpack to the parks so we could store the wet ponchos in it when we'd go into restaurants to eat. Every night I'd have rain ponchos draped around the room to dry out for the next day.

All that being said, it is still one of our favorite trips. We had a great time. Lines were short and many rides were walk-on. You could walk up to almost any table-service restaurant and get seated without an ADR because people didn't want to leave their hotel room in the rain to go to dinner and the locals tend to stay away when it's raining. Very few rides shut down during the week and fireworks were held every night (we could see Fantasmic and Illuminations from our resort and I know it was raining all but 1 night of our stay during the fireworks). And temps never got out of the upper 70's when it was raining, so we weren't hot in our ponchos.

The weather report doesn't scare us anymore. We just make sure we're prepared with plenty of shoes and socks as well as our good rain ponchos (which have not been used since that 2009 trip, though I've broken out the cheapie ponchos once or twice for quick rain showers). We haven't had anywhere close to that much rain on subsequent trips...in fact, during our trip in 2013 we had less than 2 hours of rain during our entire week. So my advice is to be prepared for rain, but don't stress about it.

Ok, let's be positive. What can we do to maximize fun? I know about ponchos, but im torn on crocs vs sneakers. Also, how do we keep the backpack dry? We will be traveling with a 2YO and a 5YO so we can toss the stroller but maybe a stroller cover would be better (although from firsthand rain experience, it's almost always better to leave it at the hotel). Any other tips? Extra dry sweatshirts for the super cold buses?

First I wouldn't worry about rain. But I would be prepared for it. A backpack with raincoats or ponchos works great. I did that for MNSSHP last year and it came in handy that night. You could literally be standing in line for a ride and watch it start to rain,come out and it would have stopped.

As far as crock vs sneakers I'd go with a good pair of sneakers and a good pair of socks. If you were just going to a water park or a hit and run its one thing. If your going to be on your feet most of the day walking sneakers gives your feet more support. Your knees feet and ankles will thank you later. I learned that from my doctor as I spend a lot of time on my feet in both work boots and sneakers.

Baseball hats are great to keep both the sun and rainwater off your face if your caught outside when it rains.

Drink plenty of clear fluids like water or propel to stay hydrated.

Thanks all for your insight. Funny, because the forecast changed yet again! It is what it is and I will be happy to be there with warm ( hot) weather....it feels like we will be experiencing the typical humid hot summer weather with those showers that come with it.

For this weekend, us "locals", at least on the coast, are presuming it to be an all day event. Doesn't mean it will be intense all day. But I am expecting rain most of Saturday afternoon and all day until evening on Sunday.

What forecast are you checking? Accuweather says "a couple of PM t-storms" for Saturday....

For footwear, we like Keens or Crocs. We also wear bathing suit bottoms that look like shorts. A stroller cover is a good idea or put a poncho over the stroller. In hot temps, we bring a long sleeve t-shirt instead of sweatshirts.

On our trip in 2013 a tropical storm moved in the day we arrived. The next day our plans were to go to MK. It poured all night overnight and the forecast called for rain all day the next day. So we took advantage of it and slept in rather than doing rope drop. When we got to the TTC the rain was torrential. We were soaked before we even got on the tram. By the time we actually got to MK it let up. This was in late June. We walked right onto Buzz, Pooh and PPF. It rained on and off throughout the day. But honestly, we had a fantastic time. The crowds were light and being wet didn't bother us at all. On day three of our trip, the rain moved out, the sun came in it got oppressively hot. So hot that we were actually wishing the rain would come back.

Long story short rain did not ruin or even put a damper on our vacation! Relax, you'll have a blast!

Weather.com is what I had been checking.

Just checked and it is finally lining up more closely with the local forecasts. Yay!

I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but since the weather affects what we will be able to do at the parks I thought I'd try here.

We leave tomorrow and stay thru next thurs. The forecast looks awful! Now 4 of those days are either 80 or 90% rain

My question is in your opinion (especially those that visit Florida often...) if it's a high chance of thunderstorms...would u take it to mean a complete rainy day OR because it will be low 90s just some t storms to break the heat? I'm trying to be optimistic, but w that percentage it's kinda hard.

What's your thoughts? Are we doomed for a rainy sucky no fireworks week ???

i assume you are looking at the weather hcannel website?
DON'T.
their temps and rain percentages run high.
instead go on a local new station website. i like WESH 2 news which has been voted as tthe most accurate news station for weather prediction for 7 years running. (WESH.COM)
look at their 7 day forecast and you will notice they have temps around 85-87 and they have much lower percentages for rain/storms for the next week.
and they also let you know when the rain/storms will be which is usually PM thunderstorms which usually means quick passing mid afternoon storms and then it clears up again.
also if you see the words scattered or isolated it means there's less coverage so less of a chance for it to rain/storm where you are.
even if it is hotter and rains more than what they are predicting its not that big of a deal.
plan your day accordingly.
for example since most rain will occur in mid afternoon plan to do indoor attractions during that time such as hall of presidents, monster's inc laugh floor, ellen's engery adventure, muppet vision 3D...

i'm going from april 12th to 16th and i am bringing my disney poncho as i always do so if it rains i can just toss it on and not worry.

if it starts really coming down i'll slip into a gift shop.

Get a stroller rain cover! That way if your on a ride stroller can stay dry, bags can be put in stroller and kept dry too!
I also bought a xl ziplock bag and when it rained thru backpack it in that also came in handy on water rides!

You are fine, really! I live here, it's really quite OK right now - almost lovely. It's been decent in the morning, hot as all get out in the afternoon, and breezy in the evening. If anything, you will need sunscreen more than ponchos. Bring ponchos if you are really concerned, but I don't think it will be needed. We needed to put water in our pool because the heat has evaporated most of the water - that's how hot it is. And the humidity is awful.

Bring your shorts/capris. Bring your short sleeved shirts, sundresses, tanks and other things. Wear the sandals, wear the sneakers, wear all your summer stuff, because it's summer weather here - tomorrow won't be different from today. We haven't had rain for a bit, aside from some sprinkles on Tuesday. If anything, the pollen is bad (my black car is yellow right now because of the pollen), and the sun is painful in the afternoon. I've said it on other posts, you need a high quality plant-based sunscreen, and you need to wear it everyday, even if it's overcast. I like Aveeno and Badger. You should wear hats (baseball, sun hats, whatever).

In the evening, if you want to get dressy, resort casual is the way to go (cargos/khakis/polos for men, dresses/capris/cardigans for gals or whatever). and you should be go to go. But DON'T forget your sunscreen.
