Weather late August

Last year we thought August was fine and I did wonder what all the fuss about the extreme heat was about. Well this August/ September we found out! Boy was it hot and humid. We still had a great time even though we were rained off a few days. Crowds wise late August is very quiet and a good time to go.

We were there this year during the last week of August/first week of September. It was too hot for us. The rain was a relief, but we had a full day of downpours due to Ernesto. We won't go again during this time. Actually some days once it rained, it was fine-- the rain was a relief and it was cooler. The mornings were really hot though-- my son dripped sweat just waiting for the bus to take us to the park.

Hot and humid with lots of thunderstorms when we went a few years ago :sunny:

We have been seven times before but never in August. Next year we have no choice as we have promised DD's school not to take her out so as I cannot get two weeks at either Xmas or Easter, August it is.

If we hate it Mark has said we will not go again until Kirsty leaves school so we may be renting out our DVC points for a year or two.

Fingers crossed all will be ok as we going on the cruise as well. Good luck to everyone else going in August. See you there.

Extremely hot as others have said, we have been the last 2 years in August - school holidays etc - but never again, touring the theme parks is very hard work especially if you have children.

We go every August and as the others have said it is hot, hot hot and humid but it's do-able (sp) When we are walking around we stick to the shade as much as possible - we drink plenty of water and you can cool off in the pool or in the A/C rides.

We go every August. It is very hot and humid and you really have to pace yourself. We stay onsite and it works fine for us. We go the parks early and head back to the hotel around 2:00pm. We take a pool break and have lunch at the resort. At around 4:00 or 5:00 we head back to the parks until closing.

The only park we really couldn't do was Animal Kingdom. We found there was not enough shade and places with air conditioning to escape from the heat. That was the only time I really felt like I was going to pass out.

Also every afternoon it rains for an hour or two you could almost time your watch to it.

Having said all that August in New York is just as bad. If I had my choice I would go at another time, but this is the only time we can go.

Drink lots of water and take your time.

Good Luck

We went for the first time at the end of August/ beginning of September this year and was expecting it to be very hot & humid! We were pleasantly surprised, even our DS 15 who hates hot weather thought it was ok :thumbsup2

We had a lot less rain rain over the two weeks than we had expected, no where near as much as when we went in June a few years ago, so we would certainly go back again.

We usually go mid/late August and find it fine - only downside this year was the free Disney Dining Plan which choked up the resort. Also I don't think it seemed as hot this August as in previous years - we're just not as tanned on the photos. :sunny: Plus if you can take advantage of the EMH then so much the better - AK is a much more pleasant experience earlier or later in the day. :thumbsup2

We are going last 2 weeks in Aug 2007 - expecting it to be very hot. I find a good way to cool down on hot days at theme parks is to go on the water rides and get drenched!! :rotfl2:

I think most of us who have been or go in July/August only do so because of the school holidays - it's just not the ideal time to go, I don't know about it not being as :sunny: , the average temperature the first week we were there this August was 95 degrees.

Even getting to the parks early , which is sound advice, is not necessarily going to save you from the scorching heat.

It does depend on your personal circumstances, for us and especially having been 14 times and having an Autistic child who really suffered with the hot weather this year - well we would rather not go than do that again.

Don't get me wrong I love coming back with a tan and like the sun, by my boy doesn't. If it works for anyone else then great.

we've been once in August & it was better than we expected & hoping we may manage a visit next August too. All cos of School holidays!

We did have more rain than in May/June but it didn't stop us doing much. Once DH & kids were playing Disney Mini golf & they had to come off the course but they got a voucher to return another day.

Also we moved our water park visits to mornings.
