We are trying to plan a disney cruise for either Jan or feb. Was wondering how the weather is on the boat and at castaway cay during that time period ? Is it warm enough to swim and do you need any type of jackets ? I will be traveling with my wife and two daughters ages 8 and 5. Thank you for any help or feedback.

We've been in January the last 3 years, on the Fantasy. Castaway Cay has been varied. Had one year when it was hot & the swimmers enjoyed the water, whilst I enjoyed the beach. Been another time when it was cold & windy, then it rained. Also had a time when we missed it completely because the ship was unable to dock.
On the Fantasy, it has been warm but windy. I did have a cardigan for the evenings, but mainly because the MDRs/theatre are cool. Have had cool evenigs on deck, but again also had warm nights.

I have been twice in early Feb:
Once it was too cold to get in the water.
Once it was cool but once you got use to the temperature, you could swim.

Only to add to the confusion: We were there after Marathon weekend one year (2nd week of January) and it was absolutely beautiful. Water was cool, but not cold. Very swimmable. We were commenting on how nice it was for January. Needless to say it sounds like it can be variable, so cross your fingers and enjoy the cruise. :)

We just went this past February, around the beginning of the month. In the am, the water was cool, but comfortable, but later in the day it became really windy (but still sunny and warm) and was almost too cool to swim.

It also depends on where you live. If you're coming from c-c-cold country the ocean will feel balmy. If you're accustomed to warm weather, the ocean may feel chilly.

We went on the 2/17 5 night cruise. The two Magic cruises before us were NOT able to dock at CC due to rough waves and wind. We had a picture perfect day on CC with air temps around 75 degrees. The water was chilly, but it was manageable.

for reference Gorda Cay aka CC is the same latitude (as far north as) Ft Lauderdale ... and about 60 miles due north of Nassau

if you watch the weather for these to places fo can usually get a pretty good picture of what's happening at Gorda Cay ....

the water temps can be warmer at Lauderdale however as the Gulf Stream runs nearby.
