Is the weather in August that bad ??

We've only ever been to WDW in April as the weather is just so perfect then. However if Disney bring out a free dining offer for 2010 it would probably be for during the summer months. What with the "credit crunch" and the poor exchange rate that would probably be the only way we could get back there in the near future, so I was wondering if all you folks who have been to WDW during August could tell me what you made of the weather.

We always travel in August because DW is school teacher. It is hot and extremly humid, we would NOT travel at this time of year if other times were an option. There is heaps of rain, Orlando's average monthly rainfall for August is several times the rainfall in the UK. There are often tropical storms and it is the start of the hurricane season. You will save money if you get free dining but will probably more than lose this amount on the price of the flights you pay for unless you get lucky and find a cheap deal. At present there does not seem to be any flights around under the £600 mark. You can probably travel for half this price in April and pay cash for the dining plan and still be better off.

We love August weather around 95 every day but its too hot & humid for many. Last couple of years we have fallen lucky and hardly seen any rain, when the rain has come we have missed it being on a cruise but 1 August a few years ago we had about 5-6 hours torrential rain every day it was horrible.
For flight prices its a matter of searching and searching, Direct we have never paid more than £533pp, indirect most was £350 until this year, could have gone for £330 but went for Biz class at £465. hope its worth the extra.
We have gone for OKW with free DDP, was too good a deal to turn down with bad exchange.

We have no choice to go in school holidays as I am a teacher.
Despite the fact we have been a few times in August - and with the longer holiday period it is the best time to go - I could never go again then as it is just too hot for me and my son.
When it's over 100 degress that's just too hot in my opinion.

Easter is busier but weather ideal.

I'm not to concerned about finding flights as I've got Virgin frequent flyer miles coming out my ears that would easily cover a miles + money fare for all 4 of us. So it's really down to accomodation and food costs. We like dining well at WDW and do a sit down table service meal every night. This does cost $$$$ so a free dining plan would be very good for us.

We have almost 200,000 miles to use, absolutely no use for last August or this August for Miles and Money. Last August we managed to get a free flight(tax only) out then come home with BMI indirect but no M&M, this year nothing at all.
Could be totally different for next August but wouldn't hold your breathe waiting for Virgin FF offers in August, they are few and far between.

WOW I've always managed to use them at easter and xmas I'm really surprised that it's so different during the summer. I would have thought it would have been easier given the not so good weather conditions.

We also have had no problem at Easter, Easter 07 £290 + 2,000 miles, Easter 08 £410 + 2,000 miles, both times saved at least £200pp off full fare but 10 times harder for August, I am not saying they were not there just I could not find any for our dates and I search 5 or 6 times a day every day until I find what I want.

Actually I have always found August to be more manageable weather than June or July - certainly not as humid and towards the end of August not as hot generally either.

Yes its hot but not unbearable.

Been twice in August, first time 2005 it was very hot and rained most afternoons for a short while, it was warm rain & was soon cleared up & back to the heat. We are not sun worshippers at all but found it managable. The second time was last August & it rained & rained for most of our 14 day holiday. It was cool & damp & we really wanted the sun back. Going this August & will not moan about the heat after last year.

Suppose it depends on what you view is bad!!

We went early August in 2007 - very hot and very humid!!! I suppose for us it didn't help that unusually there was very little rain. It's amazing how you miss those 'showers' when they're not around! I felt very clammy most of the time and couldn't wait for the cool showers - which were back at the hotel!!

I have seen a couple of posts(maybe you again ) saying you had rain last August, we were there from the 1st until the 25th hardly saw a drop, even though there was a little in the area it missed us. the last week of our trip is when the hurricane passed by and we were on the cruise, when we got back to Orlando blue skys again. Last 2 Augusts have been very dry for us.

I Think you have to factor in if you have kids or not and how well you all manage the heat. Its VERY hot and humid in August. How do you plan on spending your time? I have young kids and was talked out of going last august by my TA and I am glad she did. I don't think it woudl have been fun for them dragging around in the heat. Each family has its own needs and requirments. You need to think long and hard before you make any decision.

That being said if I found a good deal I might go for it since it wouldn't be our first trip but I would personally limit what I wanted to get out of it

We've only been in July/August because I'm in school and my mum's a teacher. We loove hot weather though, so the humidity doesn't bother us so much, although we never really spent whole days in the parks - I imagine that would be pretty exhausting!
The rain is annoying, but it's usually gone as soon as it starts to be honest. Last year however, we had a 26 hour delay, meaning we lost ADRs, days on our tickets and a night at the hotel, and then Tropical Storm Fay headed over to ruin our trip We lost half a day at Seaworld when it started and we (ie. me! ) were often a bit moody because of the constant rain/wind. However, a bad day in Disney still beats any day here!
If you do go in August, I would suggest the last two weeks because the crowds thin a bit

We went for the first time in August in 2007 and we are going again this year.

We went and are going again because of the free DDP - staying on site helps greatly with the weather as you feel if you leave the parks early it doesnt matter as you are not really leaving disney

I have fair skin and hair so find it difficult dealing with the heat but didnt find it too bad to be honest - I think with the EMH and being able to take more breaks it helps deal with the heat.

Totally right! My sister cannot handle the heat at all, and felt sick most of our time in August, where as I am not great with the heat, but if you get up early and leave before the heat of the day, there was no real issue. Just keep hopping from air conditioned places!

This is definitely a good point - we couldn't even consider august at the moment, as our DS5 didn't cope at all with the weather last year and that was in May!! - I think August heat and humidity would be unbearable for him (he is a red head so perhaps that makes a difference?? ).

So next trip we are going at Christmas - I've never been in the 'cold' months so not sure how I will feel if we get a 'chilly' florida!! , but I'm sure DS will have a much better holiday!!

Wayne, with your experience of Virgin, when has been the best time to book the flights? As soon as they become available or later on?
It's the OH's 40th next year and I'm planning on our first Easter trip, so need to get cracking with the planning soon. I've got somewhere around 52,000 miles.

There is no way of knowing when or even if Virgin will release offers. It could be on 1st day the release 11 months out or you could have to wait 4 months but you have to check 3 or 4 times a day every day until you see them, many people say they can never find offers with miles but a lot of the time they only search once a day or once every 2 days and they miss them. Its very time consuming sometimes.
