My 6yo "graduates" kindergarten on the 6th of June (a week earlier than all the "big kids" get dismissed). We're planning a trip the week of June 7th. Since all other schools in my area have classes that following week, I'm hoping other states are similar and the crowds will be lower then normal for the 2nd week of June. I'm thinking that the crowds may not REALLY step up until the week of June 14th?

Am I thinking correctly?

Also - what's the weather like...I know it's hot...but we went middle of August last year...is 2nd week in June as hot as THAT was?

TIA!

well, here in east Tennessee the schools (all grades through 12) close on June fourth, and colleges in mid May.

I think school calendars vary greatly around the country, but your thinking is generally correct and the first week of June is probably a real good time to go.

August is definitely hotter than June, and more likely to have daily storms, and is well into hurricane season. Have a great trip.

We have gone that week two years, as our kids get out of school between the 2nd and 5th of June each year. The first part of the trip, the crowds are pretty light, but do your riding of rides then. By the next weekend, crowds get much heavier. My suggestion is, ride the first half, then really use your resort amenities and pool for the end of the trip.
One year, we had a few days of heavy rain (tropical storm Alberto) but otherwise weather was warm but good.

We will be going that time of year regularly, as our kids are too old to be pulling out of school now.

Have fun!

Up until last year we had been taking graduating High School Seniors to Disney on that week (they got out earlier than others). The parks were busy, but not terribly crowded. Mid-week wasn't bad....the issues that we ran into were only the last weekend before the Seasonal Passes aren't good (June 9th this year). Seemed everyone was there to get the last couple of days.

Also, we avoided EMH (we were off property) and it seemed to work really well, all the people there seemed to be staying on site and those parks were a little busier.

Yes, you are generally correct. The weekend that you arrive is a fairly crowded one as it is the Gay Days weekend and when we've attended during that we found the "official park" for that day was very crowded.

Yes, it will be pretty much the same from a heat perspective. June has an average high of 91 degrees and August is 92 degrees. So I'd plan on it being pretty much the same heat that you experienced in August.

We have always gone during the first two weeks of June and have found the crowds have been increasing lately - but I am sure that is for all times of the year. It is still very doable if you are not going commando - pushing yourself to the limits in the heat and humidity.

Drink lots of water - take breaks when you need to, plan smartly and expect that daily rain.

This year our school district has changed it school year dates and our youngest DD doesn't get out until the 5th I think. We are leaving on the 6th (driving) and checking in on the 9th. I am fully expecting it to be crowded - hot and humid with rain - but that is OK - we are going to DISNEY WORLD!
