Hi ya'll! Well it's down to a 7 day countdown now! I was just wondering how the weather has been? I see the forecast shows thunderstorms every day (we arrive Aug 10th) so I was wondering how its been so far? Wash out or just a few storms through the day? It will be the first year we will need to rent a scooter. My husband had a stroke during open heart surgery in January and although he is on the road to recovery he will need a scooter in the parks and I've been told we'd need to seek shelter during a downpour.

Thanks guys! :flower::flower::flower:

More than likely you will have a small storm/downpour daily. Even if the weather report says "scattered t-storms" don't fret. These are usually your typical FL storms that leave as quickly as they come.

Have a great time and I hope your husband is able to enjoy as much as he can as he recovers!

Usual daily brief scattered showers around 2-4pm. Sometimes they last 10-15 minutes, sometime an hour. Their brief and usually not too much of a downpour. And they'll be scattered showers so while the radar may say rain for the day, it may only rain near MK while Animal Kingdom is bone dry. I wouldn't worry too much about the rain but have windbreakers, umbrellas, ponchos, or whatever else you'd like to use accessible in the mid afternoon.

Also wish a speedy recovery to your husband. Open heart surgery is rough enough but then a stroke on top of that..hopefully nothing but positive for you guys from here on out.

We were in Disney last August (first time for us - we used to go in October) and it did rain every afternoon. It was usually very brief but very heavy.

I hope your husband continues his recovery and you guys have a great trip! We are down to 10 days on our countdown so we'll be there the same time as you.

We arrive August 10th too! So much planning and it is finally right around the corner. I hope the thunderstorms help cool the day down. The forecast are in the 90's that week. This will be our first summer in Disney as I can't go off season anymore due to new job. Hope you and your husband have a great time.

We arrive on Sunday. Thunderstorms are pretty much an everyday occurrence right around 4 pm or so. But usually they are quick and rarely stick around for long. We've had very humid weather here in PA, good preparation for Florida. ;). Shelter during a thunderstorm is always a smart idea.

Hi! I hope he is feeling better, and on the road to a full recovery!

I have been several times last week or two (or both - one trip was 15 nights last two weeks of August). Although it is hot and humid, I like the lower crowds!

My daughter (with whom I am going this trip solo as a few others like last year this time, last week of August) has a connective tissue disorder that makes walking long distances very painful (we learned that one trip a year and a half ago when her shoulder subluxed, or partially dislocated) so we rented a wheelchair the last 3 trips.

I find a wheelchair so easy to maneuver. It's fine if it gets rained on a bit, but we do check an app on my iPhone ("my radar" - it is free so it's nice to see what is coming our way)

If you can push him in a wheelchair, maybe you'd want to do that? I don't know - only times it's hard for me (I'm almost 50) is going uphill a couple spots, like from Future World to France in Epcot - but it's fine really!

Yes, do keep an eye on the sky! I'd get the app! The storms are more often short lived, but can come down with a vengeance. We just take things in stride, and use a DAS for her (she can't often stay out long, as I'm sure your DH can't so look into asking about that, as also she can't wait standing in line, so they used to give us a little shaded area to wait like for Haunted Mansion, since she could pass out).

It does cool things down sometimes in the evening after showers -we've had to get hoodies to keep us warm in the evenings in August!

Make sure you are aware of the indoor areas near you ahead of time! Also not sure where you're staying, but if you take a bus, go to the head of the line where they have either a marked spot that looks like a separate area or often it has the handicapped marking - the driver will load you both first so he's set and strapped in before they load the other passengers. That has been a lifesaver for my daughter!

I've been here since Sunday. Everyday there is a forecast (from 80% to 50%) of storms. I am staying only a couple of miles from the parks. Where I'm at, the worst weather so far was 5 minutes of sprinkles yesterday around 2. That first night, though, there were storms near Tampa (about 50-60 miles away) where I could see the thunderheads on the horizon and what a lightning show they put on at sunset, wow! However, on Monday evening, although I didn't get a drop of rain, Disney Springs, and based on the direction it was moving, perhaps Epcot, did get a rather heavy downpour around 5PM, but it wouldn't have lasted more than 10-15 minutes. Admittedly, I've seen storms in the area every day, but they are widely scattered and everything seems to clear up no later than 8 or so nor last an extended amount of time. I can see the Star Wars fireworks from where I'm at and they have not been delayed by lightning any evening.

Be ready though, they don't exaggerate about the heat. From 10-2, before the afternoon clouds get organized, it can get pretty toasty.

Thank you all so so much for the well wishes for my husband. It means alot. We have been to hell and back this year. We were married at Disney at the Boardwalk and in the hospital he looked at me and said, "You know where I wish we were? At that English restaurant in Epcot waiting for Illuminations.". And so now we will be there! I can't wait.

I'm going to look into DAS. The doctors have said no Rock and Roller or TOT but he can do most others. And I've called POR where we are staying to make sure we'd get a ground floor room. Scooter is ordered. Then I saw the rain in the forecast and said, "Ut Oh! I better go to my DIS friends!".
