wearing princess nightgowns to the park?

I would honestly rather have my DD wear it as a "costume" and not a nightgown. That doesn't look very comfortable to sleep in. Thankfully my DD has never asked to wear a princess dress in the parks, I don't even think she knows it's an option.

I can't imagine forcing a little girl to walk around in an itchy, hot, princess dress all day.

I agree, but when you look around the parks and see those little girls, just know that not ALL of us are "forcing" them. DD would not even think of wearing anything but a costume, and often wears the plastic shoes as well. Heat, humidity, rain, wind...it doesn't matter. She never complains. In the beginning we used to bring shorts and a t-shirt in a backpack, but she never wanted to change So there are those little girls for whom fashion trumps comfort, by their own choice.

Regarding the nightgown: sure, go for it! As long as your daughter doesn't mind it, why not?

I just love the "forced to wear them" comment. I've never once forced my DD's to wear anything (other than an appropriately warm coat) ~ never mind a princess dress. I wonder how many people are walking around feeling sorry the little girls in princess dresses with their hair done at BBB (from another thread where posters were feeling sorry for them)? I mean my DD have both done BBB and know exactly what it entails and STILL WANT to do it. They are NOT forced and actually feel absolutely special and beautiful.

Honestly I think they look more beautiful in plain clothes than princess dresses..... but THEY think it is special so I let them do it.

To OP ~ this turned into a huge debate over christmas time about someone letting their girls where night gowns to (I think) 1900 Park Fare? Maybe CRT? Personally I don't see anything wrong with it and let my girls wear flannel mickey nightgowns and slippers to CRT on our MVMCP night back in 2009. Tons of people stopped at our table and asked if they were nightgowns and said how beautiful they were and what a GOOD IDEA for the night time party.... I'd say do what you want to and don't worry what others think. They are your kids and it is your vacation ~ AND this doesn't infringe on anyone else's vacation in ANY way!

They are pretty! Perhaps too long for the parks though? That might be uncomfortable. I think you'd have to try them on and see... it can be hard to tell from the pictures!

Thanks for all the replies. She wore it last night and has already asked to wear it all day :) We'll pack it in the suitcase and see...my other DD got a Minnie Mouse nightgown. It beautiful, but it doesn't look like a costume (maybe a cute dress) and she's begging to wear it when she meets Minnie. We'll see...they have several other "real" princess dresses, so we may just take them for sleeping.

And...I'd never force my DDs to wear anything hot and sticky.

Every time I see these little girls at the park in princess garb I just shake my head. I just don't get it. Neither of my 2 daughters have ever expressed an intreats in wearing a costume to the park. My wife and I would nt them let them if they did. Costumes are for halloween.

Well now, you're just a ball of sunshine, aren't ya?

Kids are pretty smart. They probably know not to ask.

Your loss...

Imagination is a wonderful thing, and its pure form doesn't last too long. I treasure those moments my children dress up and participate in the fantasy. That joy is something to behold, and it disappears all too soon.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I don't have children, but when I was little, I definitely was a kid who loved to wear dresses. My mom has even said that if Princesses were as big then as they are now, I absolutely would've been one of those "forced" to wear one, and I would've loved being hot and itchy in lace and tulle alllllll day.

To answer the OP, I wouldn't think twice seeing a little girl wearing something like that in the parks, and it actually seems pretty practical to me, especially if she's excited about wearing it. It's probably easier to pack than the gowns too!

To clarify: My "forced' to wear a princess dress comment was meant for those people who can't be bothered to bring along a change of clothes for their little one. Or who just won't let their child wear a costume to the park, because they don't want to bring in a change of clothes. It was not intended to mean you all are out there jamming your little ones into a Cinderella outfit, while they fight you tooth and nail.

Sorry for the confusion.

The nightgowns are cute. I don't think I would know they were pjs if I saw them on a kid at the park.

We went in October and my DD3 insisted on wearing her long sleeved Aurora gown for MNSSHP and Halloween at Downtown Disney. We did take a sundress both days, but there was no talking her out of it. It was so hot, but she said she was comfortable, so we let her have her fun. And it did make for some cute pics! They sold a cute sleeveless Belle one, I wish they would do the same for Aurora. That's the only one DD will wear, since it's the only pink one!

I have seen these on many little girls in the parks. They do look 100% like PJs, but does that really matter? It is a little girl in a giant playground having fun. As long as she is clothed in something I say have at it! :thumbsup2
Now if a grownup was wearing something like that, it might warrant a few strange looks!

That doesn't look like a nightgown to me at all - so I'd do it. Just bring extra clothes she can change into if you think she might get hot. Have fun!

If you're worried about heat, I wouldn't do the nightgown or the princess dress, but if thats not an issue then I say go with the nightgown. It looks much more comfortable then the princess costumes.

I know my DD would complain constantly about itching, etc. so we are just doing some custom tshirts and other Disney outfits rather than costume dresses.

:thumbsup2 I agree..my baby niece is only 17 months old, and the girl already has preferences as far as fashion.:lmao: She loves hats and shiny, bling-y things.

For heavens sake, WDW is a place where everyone should be able to play and have fun and not worry that they're being silly. I love seeing the kids dressed up. I do think some of the BBB hairstyles look a little uncomfortable, but that's my personal opinion. If my niece wants to do that someday, and she's with me, Auntie will fork over the money, lol.:rotfl:

My five-year-old and my niece (also 5) wore the deluxe princess nightgowns to the BBB. They were super comfortable and the girls couldn't have been happier! But we were there in January and it wasn't very hot, so that may be an issue. :thumbsup2

I wonder if those so against wearing these nightgowns have taken the time to look at them. They really do not even look like nightgowns. They are beautiful and if your DD wants to wear it, I doubt anyone will know the difference. Have fun and make your LO happy!

I would definately use that as a costume for the parks! It looks way more comfortable than those costumes! The material has to be better, and not itchy.

I had a coupon for the Disney Store and I bought one for a great price this weekend. The Belle one - didnt see the Tangled one!
My little 2 year old won't be wearing it at the park because we are going in August so it would be too hot - but if it was cooler when we visit I would so let her wear it!
