wearing princess nightgowns to the park?

Costumes are only for Halloween, presents are only for Christmas, turkey is only for Thanksgiving, cake is only for birthdays, and Disney is only for children. Didn't you guys get the memo?

I just took a look at the link from the OP and I had to look twice at the nightgown to actually envision it as such. Looks good enough to be worn out in public to me as long as it's weather appropriate. I say "Go for it!"

I have a son, not a daughter, but I can sympathize. My kid thought he WAS Spiderman for about 2 years of his life.

My three girls (8-6-4) wore them to BBB and the park during the last week in March. I've had enough of buying disney costumes only to have them to itchy and uncomfortable to be worn. The girls wore them all day and in was in the mid-80s.

I don't have kids but I teach dance classes. All kids have different personalities, some of my little dancers must have tutu's no matter how much they get in their way, other would be tearing that tutu off the first chance they get.
So here's how I feel on this topic. If it will make your child smile to wear a princess dress...go for it. Whether it be a nightgown, or made out of a potato sack. I'm sorry but never once have I looked at a child at Disney who was happy, and enjoying being a princess and say..."Did you see that child, she is wearing a nightgown and it is seethrough" Disney is a place of imagination and magic...and if wearing a Rapunzel nightgown makes that child feel like a princess...shame on anybody for looking down on it.
If carrying extra clothes is a concern, maybe let her wear a tank and shorts underneath her princess dress and if she get hot, just throw the dress in a purse or backpack.

I would suggest checking to see if it is see thru outside in the sun. I saw a little girl in a Snow White dress/nightgown that was very see thru out in the sun. You could clearly see what kind of underwear she was wearing (white with flowers).

I’m quite sure that the family probably checked inside and found they could not see thru it, but outside is a different story.

My little one has a delux night gown and it is very pretty but in my opinon it still looks like a nightgown. Walmart had Repunzel for $20. It was not a delux disney costume but it was very nice and sparklie. My little ones put on the costume for princess meals and take them off when they get tired of them so for that short time it probably won't matter which you choose.

I think part of the problem is that the Wal-Mart costumes are a one size fits all kind. So they won't fit many girls.

I wouldn't have any problem with it. You can't even tell that it is sleepwear versus a costume dress. I agree with the PP who said to check at other retailers to see if they have a regular costume. :goodvibes

I also should add, I am a big Amazon shopper. Here is what I found there: http://www.amazon.com/Tangled-Rapun...3MK2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302494015&sr=8-1 It says it fits size 4-6x, so I assume this would fit your 5 year old.
You could also just wait until you are there, and make shopping for princess dresses a first stop. If you want to buy them before heading into the parks, stop at World of Disney at DTD.

Does anyone here know when the guests started bringing their daughters in princess dresses in huge numbers? I went just two weeks ago and I wonder if the new film "Tangled" had anything to do with it. There were TONS of cute little girls dressed like princesses. I took only one picture because I was afraid I'd run out of space on my memory card! PS: an interesting coincidence: my favorite Jane Wiedlin (Yes, the ex-Go-Go) song is Tangled, which I first heard in Disney's first R-rated movie "Pretty Woman"! And yep, it's my favorite version of the Cinderella theme although updated for the 20th century! :rotfl2:

If you're ok with it and your dd is ok with it, then why not. I don't think it looks like a nightgown at all. I kind of wish my dd7 wanted to wear costumes in the parks - she never has and has even commented on how hot the little girls she see in them look. We usually buy/make her princess t-shirts and she wears those with a little skirt/shorts when we go to the character meals. I've even tried to talk her into the BBB and she wants no part of it.
