So today we went to our local Disney Store looking for princess dresses for our WDW trip. They didn't have Rapunzel in my dd's size, but the CM asked me if I'd considered letting them wear the deluxe nightgowns to the park. She said people buy them for that purpose all the time.

I must admit they look more like costumes than nightgowns, and are very comfy looking. Does anyone do this?

Here's a link to what I'm talking about.

I would definitely do this if it were my DD!!! And if the material is see through, just have them wear light weight shorts underneath.....very cute:)

Target and Walmart both have "real" rapunzel dresses for the same price. You might try looking there if you aren't sure. My daughter would have an issue with it because she would know and it would bother her.

Why not? Just don't tell the girls it's pjs. If they're anything like my dd was at that age, they'll be blabbing about that to everyone they meet!

The top layer is see through (tulle) but the bottom layer is not. We wear shorts under dresses anyway, so that won't be a problem.

hannahdrewmom, we actually have the one from target but it began fraying quickly. my daughter wore it EVERY day for two months ha!

My DD ran all over MK in something similar. i tild her it was a nightgown but she didn't care! The nightgown we had was not see-through in any way.

I say go for it you really can't tell it's a pair of PJ's. Plus it looks very light weight which would be a plus in the Florida heat.

Have a Magical Trip.

No, I would not let my DD wear this in the park, those gowns are poly/nylon. I would not expect them to be very comfortable in Florida heat and humidity.

I think it's a wonderful idea. What time of year are you going? Speaking from experience, my youngest was more comfortable in the heat in her Alice costume, that was made from the same material, then her big, heavy Cinderalla ball gown. She was able to wear it all day and it dried easy if it got wet. She would want the other costumes taken off after an hour. Also, if your little one is anything like mine, the heavy lace is itchy. These nightgowns are soft and comfortable. I say go for it. Do her hair like Rapunzel with ribbons and some fake flowers from a craft store. It will be perfect. No one will know she is wearing pj's.

I'd be hesitant. That fabric does not breathe at all, and would stick to sweaty arms and legs. But the costumes they sell there might not be much better, and are itchy to boot.

So I guess it depends on the time of year.

My DD has the deluxe Tiana nightgown. I would not let her wear it in the park.

1) because I know it's a nightgown and it would bother me, lol.
2) it's HOT. She loves to wear it but it makes her sweat a lot. Wouldn't be so fun in the heat and humidity.

Call me crazy, but to all who think this nightgown would not be good to wear in the Florida heat and humidity, what Princess dress is any better? My DD never had a desire to dress like a princess at WDW, but if she had, I know she wouldn't have lasted a half hour in anything with a stiff tulle underskirt.

I'll be very honest with you, our last trip to WDW, a few weeks ago, I saw a little girl wearing a princess nightgown, rather than a "real" princess dress. She was dancing around in her glory with a big smile on her face. Sure, I could tell it was a nightgown, but it sure didn't bother me. I wouldn't worry at all what others would think, as long as you and your daughter like it.

P.S. For the record I think it looks pretty fancy for a nightgown and I probably wouldn't have known otherwise if you hadn't pointed it out.

I bought one for my DD to wear as a costume for her 4th birthday. She wears it all the time. She doesn't wear it out of the house, but it looks like a gown and she prefers it to her real princess costumes. The material is so nice. It isn't see through at all. So, I don't see why she couldn't wear one.

ETA: The material is super light weight and silky. It would be a lot less itchy and hot then the regular gowns!

I don't think a poly nightgown is any better than a poly costume, but the Op did not ask about a costume. I know my dd would melt in poly anything. I don't have a dog in this fight since I make all DD dresses and costumes in cotton, just answering the Op's question.:thumbsup2

We have a similar one (they've changed the Rapunzel style since Xmas) and I would consider it. We typically wear dresses for a special meal, not all day. DD thinks its a lot more comfortable then the costume. I got a spaghetti strap one IN Disneyland several years ago and am holding out on getting the nightgowns for my other girls just in case they come out with a "cooler" version this summer.

My girls wore some 2 years ago, and it was nice because they were light weight so they didn't get too hot. It was also nice because it was a lot cheaper than buying the costumes

I'm not letting DD wear her princess dresses in the parks for that reason too. I did buy her the princess SKIRT that they are selling. She will be wearing that plus a cotton tshirt with the princess on it. I don't want to lug around extra clothes because she got hot.

My grandaughter wore her Disney Princess Aurora pj dress to MK. The princess gushed over the dress and my granddaughter was thrilled. It didn't have sleeves so she was fine in the heat.

I would have to agree. If they were cotton, no problem.

When my niece was into wearing her princess costumes to the parks, we just threw a change of clothes into a tote bag. I can't imagine forcing a little girl to walk around in an itchy, hot, princess dress all day. It may be a small pain to take a change of clothes, but them wearing the dress for a while makes for some priceless memories. princess:

Trust me, you won't have a chance to let them do this for too long. Before you know it they will be too old and you will miss stuff like this.
