I keep seeing pictures of posters kids with Disney costumes on...usually Princess Dresses.
Do the kids (especially girls) wear these to MK, the Character meals or just what? If so, isn't that uncomfortable to wear around or do you have them change at the park??

Just be sure to put regular shoes on them. I LOVE seeing the little ones dressed as princesses in the park but it breaks my heart to see them in those silly play shoes that match the dress trying to walk around. I would be very sure that the dress is not itchy ,too hot etc, if so just put shorts on underneath and remove the dress after the meal. Lockers are great for storing thing in the park.

We went in December and my 2 year old only had her dress on at night. We would go back to the resort (poly) for a rest and then change into the dress. She loves Belle and had two Belle dress for the trip. One was the yellow dress and the other was Belle red christmas dress with cape. The first night she wore the yellow dress with cape. She was the belle of Disney. Then for the Christmas party she wore the christmas dress. It was hot but she insisted on wearing the cape. She looked so hot but would not take it off.

I was originally not going to get one for my DD(4). However we are having our first castle breakfast with all of the princesses. I know that the majority of the little girls wear the costumes. I know DD would be very upset not wearing one when most of the girls are. She is a girly girl! princess: So I bought one off of ebay for about $30.00 and will surprise her the morning of the breakfast with the dress. She will wear comfy shorts underneath and we will change (hopefully she will let me) her as soon as the breakfast is over.

They do look really cute in the dresses. My daughters are princesses at Halloween but any other time of the year they will not wear them. They always look at the other little girls wearing them and wonder how they can be comfortable in them. They say they are a pain to get on and off the rides in and also hot and itchy.

I agree that if your daughter does wear one they need to wear comfortable shoes. Also be prepared to have a change of clothes in case they get too hot!

I just joined the disboards two days ago...and this is the kind of information I need (besides hotels, passes, things to see and do etc etc - our first trip can you tell). We are taking our three girls and my husband and I have never been. We are very excited and will definitely be booking a meal with a princess or two. So we will bring our costumes with us. I know our girls will want to wear them, we will bring comfortable shoes and a change of clothes. Thanks for the advice.

There is no price that can be put on seeing your daughter running towards Magic Kingdom in a princess dress believing she is really meeting princesses. It will forever be etched in our memories and is also my screensaver. Even if they know they are not real princesses, I think it is still magical. Bring a camera. The pictures are priceless. We went straight to carousel after and took pictures in her costume on it. Later she got hot and we had clothes underneath.

My daughters wore their princess dresses for the character meal. It was so much fun for them! They wore sneakers underneath and I brought a change of clothes for them after we were done with the meal. If you have a stroller, the basket underneath is great to store them in. Before the breakfast, Dh and Ds rode mission space. While we waiting in the play area, a woman came up to my Dd and asked her for her autograph. My daughter was so excited that someone thought she was really Cinderella. It's great for the pictures too! They're only young once. princess:
I saw a lot of girls dressed throughout the parks and on rides. It's a little hot and uncomfortable for that.

Because of the comfort/scratchy issue, I did not get official Disney Princess costumes for DD. Instead I got a set off an e-bay store (that now has matching dresses for her American Girl doll :lovestruc ) that look similar but are super comfortable and lightweight. I left it up to her - sometimes she'd slip one on for a picture; Jasmine and Pocahontas she wore all day.

My twin daughters are three 1/2 they will be four when we go in the fall, and my eldest is 5 1/2 she will be 6 when we go...so they think the princesses are really real, so this trip will be so magical. princess: :jumping1: They tell me that they are going to go straight to the castle to see the princesses and one of my twins tells me that she is going to go tell Maleficent (sp?) that she should not be so mean. They always wear their costumes at home...they dress up all day, so it won't be a stretch to see them wearing them to Disneyland...they are getting a little tatty (so thanks for the hint about ebay, I will check it out). :chat:

When can I start booking breakfasts and lunches with the princesses (how far in advance), and what are all the abbreviations in your messages "DD, DL etc?) :confused3

DD3 wore hers for the princess brkfst. Had clothes on underneath.

Could you post the name of the ebay seller? Is that ok to do here? I would love to look at the costumes. DD has a cottone Minnie Mouse Dress she can wear to Chef Mickeys and then change but I would love a princess dress for her. She loves her princess Pjs.....so a dress that is light weight would be great! Thanks

Our daughter wore her snow white costume several times during our last trip. The key things:
1) Make sure the length is right- you don't want any tripping on the rush to get to the Princesses or in rides or just running around in excitement. Boo-boos don't make for happy moments!

2) Forget the shoes. Go with sneakers and socks or a really supportive sandal.

3) Bring a hat for when the sun is high and the tiara comes off

4) We always carry a spare swimsuit, short set- in case she wants to dash through the fountains or take to the playgrounds at AK or MGM. Generally we try to limit the princess dress to the MK.

5) Find out where you can find your daughter's favorite princess and have her pic done with her in her costume- makes for a great memory.

Thanks for all the hints ...they are great. Generally the dresses are too long, so that is a good idea to shorten them. Are there fountains (waterparks) to run around in, in Disneyland? What is AK? (MK is Magical Kingdom?).

I was going to book a breakfast / lunch with a princess(es) for my three DD's (3,3,5). Do all of the princesses tend to hang out in certain areas?

Some other hints I have heard:
1. get your DD's to wear a "fanny pack" with a water bottle, and a couple of snacks (fruit bar, nuts, raisins etc) for those line ups.
2. carry a small first aid kit - for those boo boos so you don't have to find a first aid station.
3. make your own autograph book ahead of time - mini album - put stickers on each page of each princess. save one side for the picture when you get home and get them to sign the opposite page.

another idea on the autograph book...if you use a small scrapbook where pages can be added (such as the Creative Memories 8x8), don't worry about saving a page for a photo, you can add refills in between each signed page after you get home. When you get home, have your child help you decorate.

We just got back this weekend. My two DD's 5 and 7 both wore their princess dresses to Cinderella's roundtable and Storybook lunch in Epcot. It will be permanantly burned in my mind the vision of my daughter wearing her brand new Cinderella dance dancing all the way to the castle! It was incredible, in my opinion it is a must do if your daughter wants too.

Hey we just got back and my DD did not wear a dress up dress, but I would of let her if she really wanted too. (we got cute minnie ears instead.) Anyway we saw TONS of little girls in princess dresses. However it was sad for me because many of them where not appropreate to be wearing out in puplic (like they were really pj's or dress up cothes ment to be wore over normal cothes.) But the girls didn't have shirts and shorts under them like they should of. It was rather sad really. I must admit I let my 18 month old run around a water park with her bathing suit top off, but not a 4 year old in a major them park. :earseek: Many of them were much older then 4, more like 7 or 8 years old.

I would of let her wear her dressy pamjamas over a tee shirt and shorts, but she didn't push the issue. So go for comfort and bring a pair of cothes to change, or better yet wear it over cothes.

BTW I saw the cutest Cindrella dress. It was $95, we took a picture of DD holding it instead!

Yes I agree DisneyPHD, there was alot of inappropriate apparel in Disney. My two daughters wore shorts underneath, comfortable white leather keds walking shoes, and dresses, not PJ's.
