Wearing Pajamas at the Mall

Who the HECK cares? They're dressed modestly, warm, and comfortable! I haven't done it, but maybe I will just because I'm rebellious like that.

Yes, but I try not to wear ones that are too obnoxious. I have a pair with Stewie from The Family Guy that I try not wear out!

Honestly? Here's what I think when I see grown adults wearing pajamas out in public -- I think it's pathetically lazy and I wonder how filthy their house must be if they can't be stirred to take 30 seconds to put on a pair of jeans to go out in public.

As long as your pjs cover all your parts I'm fine with it.

My house isn't filthy, but that doesn't mean I don't like to be comfortable.

And who knows, maybe some of those people in jeans SLEPT in them.

Our local outlet mall (Prime Outlets) had some big promo where you got a free gift and special discounts if you wore your jammies shopping. They opened at midnight.

My local mall and outlets had this same kind of thing here in SW PA.

I don't understand how pjs=filth? I am actually a neat freak and generally dress very nicely. I am just not so self absorbed as to think I need to be done up to run out to the mall. I am not going to be in a fashion show there.:confused3

So confession time: Have you ever worn pajamas out shopping to the Mall?

The mall? No.

I have gone out late at night in tattered sweats (essentially my pajamas) to either the convenience store or grocery store. Like on a Saturday, if we realized we forgot to take something out for dinner.

What's odd is that I will do this, once in a great while, and yet I dress very conservative normally. Wont ever wear: sandles, crocs, baseball caps (outside of playing baseball), not even t-shirts with any logos on them.

OP here again. Thanks to all for your replies. I am thinking it must have been tied to a special promotion here since I have never noticed it before and am at the Mall almost every weekend.

For what its worth, I am all for being comfortable, but I think wearing PJs out in public is going too far. Like another poster said, it doesn't take more than 30 seconds to pull on a pair of jeans or slacks. Everytime I leave the house in less than "full gear," I run into someone I know. Typically its someone from work who I do not want to see me like that!

Thanks again.

I saw a few people in pj's at Kohl's on black friday, but seeing as how it was 4 AM I was willing to give them a pass on it. Any other time and I'd think it was inappropreate. Getting your paper in your pj's is one thing, going shopping (at a normal time) is something else.

I guess I'm trashy.

I have worn my pj bottoms out before to Wal Mart or shopping. They're the most comfortable pair of pants I own and the warmest. I tend to do it on days I don't feel well. Last month I was having some serious stomach problems and they were the only pants that didn't make it feel worse.

I don't get why people care so much. At least it's not like I'm walking around with panty lines or a thong hanging out.

And to the person who said that you must be filthy: It's not that I didn't have clean jeans or slacks. It's that they were making my stomach problems worse. The pajama pants were perfectly clean, and I saw no reason to make wear pants that were going to make my stomach feel worse just so I could go get some medicine from the store.

I fully support everyone's right to look as trashy as they wish! ;) (Kidding - I certainly understand why someone who doesn't feel well might wear them out.)

I personally wouldn't do it but I don't care if others do. I just hope that it doesn't lead to teddies.

I wouldn't do it on a regular basis, although I am guilty of having worn flannel pants once to pick up a pizza. But they weren't part of a pajama "set"...they were a pair of pants which were labelled "lounging pants".

In general though, I actually get dressed to go into public.

Ok I would wear my PJ's for free stuff;)

I hate when people wear PJ pants in public, at least put on sweatpants. And then do you go back into bed with those PJ pants that you were walking around the town in, wear the bottoms were probably dragging on the ground, and then go into your nice clean sheets? That's what would bug me the most.

We were in Kohl's the other nite and there was a young woman in PJ's & slippers. I just think it looks stupid. But I have seen people in "clothes" that should have worn PJ's, it would have covered them better.

I would never leave my house in pj's/grunge clothing. It doesn't take much time to put a pair of jeans on!

I havent worn pjs to the mall. But I can understand. Many times Im too lazy to put pants on and just wheel the garbage cans down the driveway in my boxers. Havent received any complaints yet.

Isn't it a bit cold now to do that? :lmao:

I was in sweatpants that say "West Virginia" down the side...

...but thats mostly because barely any of my clothes fit anymore! :rotfl:

:looks at siggy: You have a good excuse! :)

OP here. It's comforting to know that perhaps they were wearing their pjs as part of a promotional event and not as a fashion statement.

I will admit that I have put my coat over my pjs to bring in the Sunday morning paper from the mailbox. But I have never worn them "off my property."

I would never go out in public with my PJ's. I have only done it a few times to take out the garbage, but that's it.

Wearing jammies to get the mail or put the trash out is one thing! I've done that many a time and so has my mother.

But wearing them to the store? NEVER!! Not even to Wal-Mart in the middle of the night!

I dont understand it at all ! I think it is lazy sorry if I hurt someones feelings . Its like houseshoes ... Do you know why they are called HOUSEshoes??? they are for the house .
If I dont feel well I dont go out because well ....I dont feel well .
I do go out in sweats and yeah I will throw on a ball cap if I dont feel like doing my hair but it is CLEAN underneath that hat .

My own DD 22 has gone out to grab diapers at Target in Pj bottoms and when she got home her DH asked her why she didnt get dressed . She said she did not feel like getting dressed ????? What is up with that I always dresed her as I child LOL I asked her if I needed to buy her some houseshoes that matched her bottoms .

I've often wondered, if you go shopping in your PJ's, have you had a shower yet? I've walked my dog in my flannel PJ pants, but I REFUSE to go anywhere else in them. And I'll be damned if my DD tries to go out wearing those when she gets older. If you have the energy to get to the store, you have the energy to at least throw on some sweats.
