Wearing All Black Today

I have to admit to being relieved Ruben won. Clay has a nice voice, but looks too much like a dweeb to be my American Idol. My husband kept referring to him as the Keebler Elf.

Oh and that big as a house sweat box does look like an idol. I think not!!

Sorry, but looking at all that sweat pouring off his head, really was not appealing at all.

I couldn't even hear him, all I kept thinking was, how is that man ever going to do a concert tour.

Clay is cool as a cucumber and belts out a song like Ruben wishes he could.

Thanks for the reminder on why I don't watch TV !!!

We save on cable, and I don't have to go into mourning over what happens on the "box".

I find comparing Ruben and Clay is like comparing apples and oranges. They're two very different singers, for me, they both came in #1. Clay hasn't totally been cheated, he'll still go on to do a tone of work.

I personally so hope that Clay is offered stage roles - I think Simon hit the nail on the head from the beginning in that Clay would make a wonderful broadway performer. Clay's voice is more Broadway than pop, and would blow away a good majority of the people currently cast in Broadway musicals. Plus, all that winking and facial gestures that he makes while singing will actually work on Broadway. He's very animated, he reminds me of a little elfin, or the next Peter Pan. :)

I think Ruben works better in the pop world. In my eyes, he is easily the most marketable, the most mainstream, which is what the recording producers are looking for.

Either way, I see it as a win-win for both. Everyone knows their name, and time will tell on how successful they will be. I'm of the old adage "when one door closes, another one opens" and I think Clay will land on his feet even though he didn't win the competition.

I felt the same way as lizzie64 about Ruben, but honesltly don't want to sound like sour grapes. I truly wolnder how he will make it thru the grueling tour they have this summer. It looks like a different city for them almost every other day. I bet the boy loses some weight.

I was disappointed that Clay didn't win, but I think Ruben is talented as well. IMO, Clay's voice is much better and more versatile, but Ruben's voice is also incredible and has a very neat, unique quality to it. I think they are both men of integrity, and I hope they both remain that way, even with their new fame. I am thrilled to hear that Clay will get a contract too, since his style/voice appeals to me more than Ruben's. As far as being offkey goes, I was watching with my former vocal performance major fiance, and he said that neither of them were flat or sharp or offkey on Tuesday night that he heard. I think they're both great guys, and I wish them both the best. :)

Snoopy,

Are you serious? Why should Clay be pigeon holed in performing "on broadway", where his exposure and talent is limited to who sees him on stage? I think this would be seriously unfair to those of us who like him as a pop performer! There are lots of previous pop stars who sound (and look) a lot like Clay! They've been successful in the pop world, so why should Clay? I'm just really curious on this one....

And there's Lizzie.....always correct in her statements. thank you Lizzie!!!!

Rwethereyet......I was also in the RBC Center last night. Section 125. As a true North Carolinian(born and raised here)....I was so proud of our hometown boy (Clay). He was a true gentlemen when the announcement was made. More of a gentleman than some of the viewers in Raleigh. I for one was very saddened and mad that he didn't win. I loved his sound and wanted the hometown boy to win the prize. However....if he wasn't in the top two...I would have been pulling for Ruben...so congrats go to him.

I wasn't even going to post, but when I saw that "dweeb" comment, I was like "are you Kidding me"?

You can't possibly comment on Clay's appearance and say he is not the "idol" type and then look at Ruben and say he is.

It's too bad that so many comments about "image" were made in this competition. It should have been about the voices.

I love the richness of Clay's voice. He's along the lines of Michael Crawford.

While I think he would do well on Broadway, I don't understand why people want to put him there.

Come on people. I for one am tired of listened to the screaching divas, and rap hip hop stuff. Give me a good vocalist to listen to. That's the kind of music I'm going to buy.

I don't see it as pigeon holed, I think he is well suited to Broadway. As I mentioned before, I think he is very animated, and his over-the-top facial expressions would work on Broadway. As would the way he sings the lyrics to songs - he enunciates each word just so.

I didn't mean it as a slam on Clay - I think he has immense talent, I just think he would do well on Broadway. :)

Interestingly enough, I read an article this week on him and he said he would be very open to Broadway. I hope an agent snaps him up, I'd go see a musical he was in.

Thanks Kristy.

Wow, I would have loved to be there with you last night. You now, I truly believe Clay's fans are more disappointed than he is. Maybe he was relieved not be under that AI marketing garbage. Now he'll stay true to himself.

I mean look what they did to Kelly. What strong vocals she has and they've turned her into a sreamimg mimi Christina Aguilera wannabe. I personally like her vocals on "One voice", but think her "Miss Independent" is terrible.

This is very unDISlike, but I'll say it:

Clay has zero sex appeal. Zero. Zip. Nada. When Ruben sings a romantic song, it actually appears that he understands it and feels it. Clay just sings it in a technically correct yet completely emotionless way. If I'm putting on a CD for a romantic evening, it won't be Clay's. He's talented, but better suited for theater.

Hey there, 2be, my office is located off Weston Parkway, so we are very close to you.

Wasn't it exciting last night? We were sitting in the section right in front of the boom camera, although I am sure we did not make it on t.v. as we were up near the back of the section. I had a great time, was so glad I went, regardless of the outcome. I was so proud of Clay and so proud of our community for supporting him as we did.

It has also been so fun having something so positive to focus on after all the bad stuff we have had going on in this World. I thank American Idol for the wonderful diversion.

Wow-

I don't know about that "no sex appeal" for Clay. I've read hundreds of posts and talked to so many women who are totally ga ga for him.

Everyone has their opinions I guess. But, Clay's voice just mesmerizes me. The richness of his voice is delicious. Frankly, his CD will be by my bedside.

I, for one, think Clay has bedroom eyes. Also think his adorable personaltiy makes him sexy.

Slainte, while neither Clay or Ruben is my ideal man, Clay wins as the lesser of two evils in the sex appeal department.

And as far no emotion when he sings, holy crap, that's just crazy! Have you even watched him sing??

I wear all black everyday! I've been asked many times if I was in mourning.

Well, lately I have been but that's beside the point.

I find it hard to believe all of the sour grapes going on after the outcome of AI. Before it the woooHOOOS were loud and clear, now the boooHOOOS are everywhere.

I love them BOTH. I think they BOTH will be big stars. I find it disgusting that the outward appearances are being brought up NOW when the vote was clearly for the most talented of over 70,000 people. The whole point was they are not the typical American Idol look. They may not be classically beautiful, or DRY but they were voted by the people who wanted them.

I feel like I'm listening to my son's soccer team after a loss.

I can't imagine thinking of a loser or a winner here. They are BOTH winners. If Clay had won I had to realize the as one of the FEW Ruben fans on this board I would have had to come back to this board graciously giving Clay his props. Too bad not all of us think that way. I'd hate to see how children would act after seen adults act this way.

On the other had most of the radio stations I listen to are celebrating profusely. One caller called in and said "See, Sweaters CAN be winners!!"

I'm going to bow out of this thread after this post, but bedroom eyes?!?! Clay has that twitch/blink thing going on that cracks me up.

I wouldn't have been upset if Clay had won. He has talent. It's my opinion that Ruben has the better voice and broader appeal for pop star status. I too would go to see Clay on broadway, but I'd buy Ruben's CD.

I agree with you lizzie :teeth: His voice is totally mesmerizing.... I think one of your previous posts mentioned not being attracted to a sweat box... totally agree with you on that one... It all just comes down to personal preference....

I also agree that Clay would do AWESOME on Broadway, but he's going to do AWESOME in the pop arena too, I know cause there's about 12 million others who agree with me!!

I totally agree!!!

There is something about him that is just so seductive.

I recall the days of Jimmy Smits on NYPD Blue. Not the greatest looking guy, but man did that guy just ooze sex appeal.
