We were in exile at BWV

I guess I really did not write my response clearly enough. When I said that "non-smoking for medical reasons" should be given first priority, I did not mean that a person with that request making a ressie one month out should get a better room than a person who has reserved at the 11 month window. That would be terribly unfair!! I meant that, when making their ressie, a member should list that request first and that MS should consider it as the most important of that reservations requests to fill. For those of us with family members who have breathing problems, a non-smoking room is an essential!! This is why I always make our ressies early and put the non-smoking request first. Ionization helps but is not as good as a permanent smoke-free environment. I definitely believe that MS should assign rooms based on who has reserved the earliest. From experiences we have had, I'm not really sure that is the way it is done. Now, if we are going to arrive late in the evening, we stay at an off-property motel overnight and then check into DVC early the following day.

What if:

They have 20 non-smoking rooms and 25 requests with medical reasons ??

Then the people who reserved first should get it.

I was on a trip once with friends at CSR where we got a smoking room and accepted it because they were connecting as requested and were ready at 8:30am. They brought an ionizer and we kept it running for the 4 days we were there and it didn't help much. We were sorry we accepted it.

Part of the problem maybe the number of people who checkout on the day you arrive. If few people checkout, the chances of getting your requests are smaller.

I have a reservation in December arriving BWV on a Saturday. I called USAir yesterday to get FF tickets and all they had for Saturday as arrriving at 11:15pm. So we ended up getting a morning flight on Friday and will spend a night somewhere else to arrive at BWV early on Saturday. Sounded good to me - extra day! :)

Before we joined the DVC my wife and I stayed at the BWV for 3 nights in May of 2000. Our travel agent messed up our reseverations and we were forced to find a hotel for the first three nights of our stay. On a whim I called BWV 3 weeks before our departure and was able to book a studio. The front desk really took care of as we were able to get a non-smoking room on the third floor overlooking the pool. We had a great view of pool!

Do you think that some of the best rooms might be held for non DVC members to convince them to join (it workded for us )?

On the other side of the coin, we reserved at the 11 month window for vwl for smoking. Arrived at 1:00 pm, waited til 4:15 for room to be ready, got no smoking. I am not a smoker, but dh was definately not impressed.

for all the rabid anti-smokers to figure out all they had to say was they wanted a non-smoking room for medical reasons. Then we would all be in the same place we are now. Some would get them and some would not. The bottom line is make your ressies at the eleven month window and hope for the best. Remember it is a request for and not a guarrantee for, a non-smoking room.
I hope the rest of your trip was okay.

Is there anyway for MS to keep track of smoking or non-smoking rooms. Lets say I call MS at 6 months out, they explain that the dates I want would not be available in Non-Smoking. Then I can choose; do I want those dates with smoking or do I want to reschedule at another time or location. There really should be someway of doing this. Its not impossible, I would even pay extra.

I'm not allergic to the smell of smoke, but smoke itself, any kind of smoke, fireplace, grills and even candles. So this is not an anti-smoking campaign for me, it’s just the way it is.

Its not a question if they could make it work, the only question is can they make some dollars. When that formula is in place, this will be a standard policy!
