We used to love Ohana

I would have asked for the manager asap and said to them either discount my meal or else I am out of here .

I am sorry you had an experience that was not up to your expectations. People crack up at me and I embarrass my daughter because I am ummm what do you call it.....Germaphobe would be the word, and I do not use silverware at any restaurant. I actually carry plastic silverware with me and even wash my appetizer plate before I use it at a restaurant. I can't do buffets either. Seeing people grab the serving spoons that have fallen into the food, use it, the spoon sinks back into the food, then someone else picks it back up:sick: Not to mention when people proceed to sample the food while they are in line over the rest of the food!:scared1: Then the crumbs fall out of their mouths and give flavor to the rest:rolleyes1 Oh well, we all have our things. I just happen to have a problem and am seeking counseling

OP, have you heard anything back from Disney yet? Just curious what their final response would be.

'Ohana is our all-time favorite restaurant at WDW as well, but we didn't have a great experience when we were there in September. I try to attribute our poor experience to the fact that the only reservation we could get was very late and while we were trying to eat (from the back dining room by the lobby...very back corner by some fake bushes), the staff was vacuuming the floors and cleaning up. Our waiter wasn't the greatest either. My niece wanted a lei and we had to ask three times before he finally brought one (and seemed aggravated about it). I'm sorry you had a poor experience also. I'm trying 'Ohana again though this September and hope we have the same great experience we have in visits past.

Twice now for breakfast I have had bad experiences. I'm not going back for breakfast this year.

First year the server decides to tell the other servers not to come to our table as my niece is lactose intollerant. So basically we are given the fruit tray and my niece is served her dairy free waffles, bacon and sausage. I get the skillet with egg, bacon and sausage for my breakfast. I was not impressed as the only thing I would eat is fruit and bacon. I asked why I was not served any waffles or bread, she said because my niece can't have it! :headache: That's why the chef came to the table to find out what she could make her!

Then last year we were not served the fruit plate at all. When I asked the server told me I had to request it!

That's too bad. I haven't been there in year but Ohana was always my first choice for character breakfast when my kids were little.

My husband did not like the breakfast at all. He kept having to ask for food- sometimes twice before he ever got it. I am not a big breakfast eater, I was in it for the characters! So I would try it again.

I still haven't heard anything from Disney yet. Keep you posted!

Everyone is saying that they should have turned people away and all of that... I can just picture all the negative threads about how people booked 'Ohana 180 days out and then their vacation was ruined because the restaurant wasn't operating properly.

I dunno, sounds like a lose/lose. Plastic silverware wouldn't ruin a meal for me.

I think the way to avoid a lose/lose situation would have been to tell guests of the problem when they arrived to check in so that THE GUESTS could choose whether they were happy with the arrangements or not before they sat down. I would also suggest given the price that a complimentary drink for all guests that did stay would have been a nice gesture.

*UPDATE*- When I got home from work last night a message was on my answering machine from customer relations.

They said that there was a problem that night with the dishwasher and that they had run out of dishes. We should have been informed before dinner and that they were out trying to borrow items from other locations. (maybe that is were all the servers were?) They apologized serveral times for all of the problems. They are crediting our card back the full dinner amount plus tip. I was not expecting that. I was very surprised.

This is the first time I have ever had a bad experience with Disney (or complained) and I have been visiting my whole life. I honestly never thought that I would get an a response from a live person. I am soooo impressed with Disney customer service! Just another reason to LOVE Disney even more! :goodvibes

I just found this thread today and am so glad to hear the outcome! Squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say! Good thing you spoke up! It really is too bad that your experience wasn't a great one you have to give props to Disney for making sure they make it right. We love 'Ohana too and although it has gotten some bad reviews lately, we are excited to take DH's brother and his family in October. I am a little nervous but hopefully it will be as great as we remember!

:)So glad it all worked out for you. Perhaps if a situation like this ever occurs again they will know what the right thing to do is. It surprises me that they just didn't close it down until the dishwasher was repaired because sanitary issues are serious.

As an aside, we have had dinner at O'hana's several times and breakfast just once. The service and food were inconsistent at dinner, however, breakfast was very good.

I'm so glad it worked out for you. I hope the experience doesn't completely ruin your love for Ohana. Things break down all the time though I still think that if they couldn't have served others with proper dishes they should have handled it differently. Indeed cutting a steak with a plastic fork is a little silly. Disney tries to do right by the customer when something goes wrong and I'm glad they responded to you properly. I'm even happier you love them for it even more now.
