Well, I’ve now officially been home about 2 months from our fantastic Walt Disney World trip – my baby girl’s first trip! We had such an awesome time & brought home the most wonderful souvenir one could ask for!! Now that I’m about 14 weeks pregnant, I’m finally feeling well enough to focus on writing this trip report & sharing our best trip yet with all of you. We’ve had a very eventful couple of months. We celebrated our daughter’s first birthday the day after we flew home from FL (a bit crazy, but it was all so my hubby could witness her getting her smash cake & opening presents before he had to leave home.) My husband is now deployed overseas, so things have been very crazy here for me – adjusting to being a single parent for now with a one year old & trying to deal with what seemed like never ending morning sickness!

A link to my very short pre-trip report is in my siggie!

Monday, August 3rd:The morning of our first trip with our baby girl (hubby & my 11th trip together) started very early! Our flight was at 7:45 am, so we got up by about 5 am & got showers & loaded up the car before waking up Maddie. She doesn’t like getting up early (who can blame her?) and we were wanting her to get as much rest as possible anyways for her first plane ride & big vacation. We left the house around 6:15, got to my parent’s house around 6:30 & then headed to the airport. My Dad rode with us & then just drove our car back to his place while we were gone – it just seemed like the easiest option with all our luggage & Maddie’s carseat, etc It worked out well & we were at the airport by about 7 am.

For the first time in my life, I honestly thought there was NO way we were going to catch our flight!! We didn’t want to spend too much time sitting around the airport with a 10 ½ month old, but we apparently should’ve given ourselves more time to get thru security. We’ve never flown out on a Monday morning before & I still can’t believe the line for security that we saw. It weaved in & out through all the turnstiles & then was extending past the security line past at least 3 or 4 airline desks. We ended up checking our bags at the curb with the skycap (which was new for us) and thankfully, even with a baby in a stroller, we made it through security with time to spare. We were both SO nervous for about 30 minutes though! We got over to the gate & there was nobody even waiting to board anymore. I had a minute to run to the bathroom before boarding, but that was it. Our plan of grabbing a bite to eat for breakfast at the airport was totally out the window! We boarded the plane, gate checked our stroller & were on our way.

The way this always works for us is that when you want your baby to sleep, or think she will sleep…she doesn’t! After getting her up 2 hours earlier than usual, driving to the airport, going thru security & boarding the plane, Maddie was now wide awake! She’s always been one to fight naps anyways, and this was just way too much excitement for her! She didn’t want to miss a thing. She stayed awake on my lap for most of the 2 hour and 15 minute flight. She started getting a little fussy about 30 minutes before we landed – not sure if the pressure may have been changing for her at that point, or she was just bored. She sucked on a bottle part of the flight & a bink the rest in hopes that her ears wouldn’t bother her. She did pretty well, with no crying at all during our flight, just some fussing. Of course, the plane lands on the ground & starts taxiing, and wouldn’t you know….Maddie falls asleep on my shoulder. It’s so funny to me how she has a knack for doing that! She does the same thing all the time in the car – is wide awake until we pull into the driveway, or better yet, a restaurant parking lot! LOL

We got off the plane pretty quickly, got our stroller back & made our way thru the airport. I was excited to take our first “monorail” ride at the airport! I love getting on the little monorail there & getting our first glimpse of the beautiful palm trees. It just feels like we’re finally at Disney when we take that little ride. We made our way down the Magical Express desk & even though there was a line at the desk, when I showed the CM my packet/vouchers they directed us right into the line for the bus to the Polynesian! No idea what the line at the desk was about or why we didn’t have to wait in it, but no complaints here! We got on a bus pretty quickly & were able to get seats close to the front of the bus & with a good view of one of the tv screens. Shortly after we sat down, Maddie passed right back out on me again. She slept for most of the bus ride to the Polynesian – it was definitely needed!

I had completed our check-in online before arriving, so when we arrived at the Polynesian I was able to go right up the section of the desk used for online check-in guests & we were given our check-in packet, room keys & leis. Our room wasn’t ready yet, but we were able to leave our cell phone number & they text you with your room number when it’s ready. I thought this was a great new benefit that they were doing. We were also told which building we would be in, which was nice to know.

Considering we never really had much of a breakfast, we were starving at this point. We walked thru the lobby & took some pictures & then made our way to Captain Cook’s for some lunch. They had new touch screens that you used to place your lunch order – a bit confusing at first, but soon we had them all figured out. Hubby got a really yummy pulled pork sandwich – it had a delicious pineapple salsa or something on it. I had a few bites of that & half of the Grilled Cheese sandwich I got for Maddie. We also shared her apple sauce & chocolate chip cookie. We decided to get one refillable mug since we weren’t sure we’d use it enough to justify buying 2.

After lunch, we were on a mission to get over to the Shades of Green to get our military tickets before we could head to a park. It was a beautiful walk over to the Shades, but a very hot & humid walk! We weren’t really used to the heat yet, especially since we had a cooler than usual summer in Ohio this year. We arrived at the Shades of Green & found our way to the ticket office. There was a very long line there! I ended up pushing Maddie around in her stroller until hubby got closer to the counter – she wasn’t good at sitting still & looking at nothing. We were very excited to be able to participate in the great military deal on tickets Disney was offering this year. Hubby got a 5 day hopping ticket to the parks and it included 5 visits to a waterpark as well – all for free! I was eligible for a 5 Day park ticket for $99, but then we added on the Hopper option for $25 & the 5 waterpark visits for another $25. A deal I really thought couldn’t be beat! In addition to that, we needed to purchase 6 day park hoppers for the rest of our trip – we also got a slight military discount on those as well. This little venture took much longer than we anticipated, but can’t complain about such a great ticket deal!

Mickey at the Shades of Green:

DisneyAugust2009014.jpg

They had a Mickey statue in the lobby of the Shades of Green that Maddie just loved! It was really her first time seeing Mickey up close like that – she was in love with watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on tv before the trip. She gets SO excited when Mickey comes on the screen at the start of the show!

We kept hoping maybe our room would be ready during our venture to the Shades, but no luck there. We walked back to the Polynesian, refilled our mug with Diet Coke & hopped on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom! It was Maddie’s first monorail ride – we rode the silver one. She seemed to enjoy the ride & was taking everything in.

When we arrived at the Magic Kingdom, we went thru security & then had to get in line at Guest Services & exchange the vouchers for our free tickets – it was definitely an afternoon filled with waiting! LOL We finally got up to the counter & got our vouchers exchanged for tickets & the CM was very nice at the window, thanked my husband for his service & told us to have a magical time.

Now, the time had come – we were going to walk thru the gate, up Main Street & see Cinderella Castle for the first time with our baby girl. There was only one problem...

Seems like a great trip so far. I was also a souvenir from my brother's first trip to WDW. My mom always says that is where my Disney obssesion originated. Congratulations on your newest Disney addict.

Day 1 Continued:

So, with Maddie asleep, we walked down Main Street (which was much more crowded than we were used to! We were scheduled to take our trip in the off season, like we usually do, but moved the trip up so we could all go together before my hubby deployed.) We were making our way over to Fantasyland to see about getting a FP for when Maddie woke up & a very kind woman stopped us & gave us 3 FP’s for the Winnie the Pooh ride! It was great! So, we were able to also get Peter Pan FP’s & noticed that Maddie was getting pretty hot & flushed looking in the stroller. We ended up pulling her stroller into the front of the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland & sat on a bench in the AC for a few minutes to allow her to cool off. She ended up waking up while we were there & was really looking around trying to figure out where in the world she was!

Next stop was the Baby Care Center (over by Crystal Palace) she was in definite need of a diaper change, and we refilled her sippy cup with some cool water. Although we didn’t always use the Baby Care Center due to not always wanting to walk back to Main Street to use it, it really was a great facility. Some days it was just a great way to let Maddie (and ourselves! LOL) cool off a bit in the heat & humidity. I think the one here at the Magic Kingdom is the best one at WDW.

We stopped & got our first pictures by Cinderella’s Castle on our way to use our Pooh FP’s.

Maddie really seemed to enjoy her first ride at Walt Disney World! She was just in awe during the Winnie the Pooh ride & really seemed to like it. On the Pooh ride:

Unfortunately, we realized the Peter Pan FP’s were going to be too late for us & everything had pretty long waits right now in the middle of the afternoon. We had recently gotten a text that our room was now ready, so we decided to head back to the Polynesian to get showers & ready for our dinner at ‘Ohana that evening at 5 pm. We got to our room in Tahiti – it was on the top floor as we requested. We really loved our room! We had a beautiful view of palm trees outside our room (no parking lots – yay!) and our building was also one of the closest to the TTC, which we really loved. It was such a great, short walk to the TTC to catch a monorail to Epcot.

Maddie Loved getting "tossed" onto the bed in the hotel rooms on our trip. By the end of the trip, she would actually get all excited about it the minute we walked into the room & sometimes we couldn't get her out of the stroller fast enough! LOL

We took turns getting showers & keeping an eye on Maddie. Although she’s never paid much attention to the electrical outlets at home, she became obsessed with the ones in our room at the Polynesian! They were very low to the ground & just perfect for her to play with. Thankfully, I was able to call the front desk & within a few minutes someone brought us up those outlet covers (although when I first called, I swear the woman at the desk had no clue what I was talking about! LOL) We also had to call down for a pack-n-play since there wasn’t one in the room. I was really happy when they actually brought us a small crib instead of the pack-n-play!

We also had bell services bring up our luggage that arrived from Magical Express & my grocery order that arrived from Garden Grocer. We had really great service with them & I highly recommend using them if you need to have groceries delivered! We never had before, but it came in SO handy with a baby in our room this trip. We got breakfast foods for all 3 of us, milk, Diet Coke, Gatorade, bottled water, a few snacks & some beer. It was definitely a very busy hour or so in our room!

Ready for dinner:

While we were getting ready we kept watching the sky get darker & darker. Of course, just as we’re about to walk over to ‘Ohana it just lets loose & starts pouring buckets! We went back to our room (we had made it to the elevator when it started absolutely pouring) and grabbed our ponchos & put the rain cover on the stroller for our walk over. It had started coming down so heavily & quickly that there was standing water on all the sidewalks up over our ankles. When we got into the lobby they had big baskets of dry towels for you to dry off with, which we thought was a nice touch. Since our ponchos only went down so far, the bottom 2 inches of hubby’s shorts & my skirt were dripping wet from the crazy rain. We made our way to the podium upstairs & checked in at ‘Ohana for our dinner. We probably waited 20 minutes or so, but were seated at a great table right next to the window, overlooking the volcano pool.

We had eaten at ‘Ohana for dinner several trips ago & while we enjoyed the food, I was very ill afterwards. So, it took me a long time to decide to try it again! Now that we were staying at the Polynesian, it just seemed like the perfect way to start our trip. It did not disappoint! All the food was delicious!! My favorite was probably the salad & wings & hubby enjoyed more of the meats than I did. We were celebrating Maddie’s first birthday on our trip (since we would have been there on her actual birthday a month later if we didn’t have to bump our trip up due to the military.) Our server was great all night & he brought out a cupcake for Maddie at the end of the meal & VERY loudly announced to the restaurant that we were celebrating her first birthday & had everyone clap & sing. This ended up being a bit too much for her to handle after such a long day & very little sleep. It started out badly because I think he startled her when he came up behind her with the cupcake & started yelling to everyone. It was such a great gesture, but she didn’t appreciate it at the time at all! LOL

At 'Ohana:

We had planned on walking on the beach at the Polynesian after dinner, but although it had stopped raining, the sand was very wet & all the swings & hammocks were also too wet to sit on. We did get some nice pictures on the beach & the minute we stepped onto the beach we were surrounded by ducks! They came running to us when they saw us, hoping we had something to feed them with. Maddie got such a kick out of all the ducks, which was funny.

It had been a very long day, so we headed back to the room at that point, finished unpacking things & got everything ready for the next day. We put Maddie to bed & went out onto our beautiful balcony while she fell asleep. We loved the alarm clock in the rooms that have the ipod docking station on them. This worked really well for helping get Maddie to sleep – I just popped my ipod in there, put it on The Beatles & it put her to sleep every night. We really enjoyed unwinding at the end of every night on our balcony with a beer, talking about another great day of vacation. We went to bed relatively early after having such an early start to our day to get well rested for the next day!

Up next – on our first full day at the parks we attended EMH at Magic Kingdom!

You have the most beautiful family! :)

Thanks for the update! It's so much nicer to read about fun Disney Days before you go to sleep then watch the news! :flower3:

Gorgeous photos of you all again, I love your skirt with the characters on. Belated happy birthday to Maddie, must have been a bit of a shock to her to have a strange man come up behind her yelling out loud - bless her.
