We survived Hurricane IAN !!!

1. No power loss.
2. No house damage.
3. No flooding.
4. No problem.

• Disney pays employees to voluntarily stay and "Ride Out" hurricanes to assist guests at WDW resorts.
• We have not heard from any of them, so we do not know how well resorts survived, let alone the parks.
• The scenes on the news showed the Orlando area near WDW-Universal-SeaWorld were hit hard with hurricane winds and rain.
• We are 20-minutes West of WDW and the hurricane pretty much went below us at the very last minute.
• All forecasts right up until about 3-hours before time, had us as a direct hit from the storm.
• Thankfully, Hurricane IAN changed course several times over the past 20-hours and we just had rain and wind.

We made it through also. We had minor cosmetic damage (I think. Haven't done a walk-around yet as I'm working) but as far as I know nothing serious.
I have power, a couple flickers last night but it never went out completely. We have internet and my phones work. No humans were injured so that's the most important.

We made it through also. We had minor cosmetic damage (I think. Haven't done a walk-around yet as I'm working) but as far as I know nothing serious.
I have power, a couple flickers last night but it never went out completely. We have internet and my phones work. No humans were injured so that's the most important.
That was your Ian aftermath report from Polk City Florida.

1. Nice to hear you also made it through in good shape.
2. We have not done a walk-around of the house, but doesn't seem to have anything wrong.
3. We live in Clermont, and surrounding area did well.
4. I simply cannot believe the small amount of damage from a Cat-4 Hurricane in the state.
5. (IAN was only 2-mph below a Category-5 hurricane!)
6. So much prep was done ahead of time that folks rode it out well.

To non-Florida-Residents:

Central Florida residents annually see the effects of hurricanes and severe weather.​

Many folks almost simply ignore them.​

Thankfully they took IAN seriously and "hunkered down".​

There is some minor street flooding, but nothing like forecasts feared.​

The rain stopped and we got out to check the house exterior.
Here is our status:

1. This is FLORIDA, but post-hurricane and it is cold (64º f) !
2. Our neat pine-bark mulch back yard is not so neat anymore.
3. Wind shredded our American Flag - so, replaced and burned it. **
4. No roof shingles missing.
5. Our eave lights (like Christmas) had some pulled loose.
6. Our neighbor's wooden fence is partly in our yard, so we gave it back to her.

Yes, eager to hear from other Diz-Friends to hear how they fared.
We pray they were came through as well as Stratman50th and we did.

** We always have 2-4 American Flags on-hand for worn flags.

. . . lower from pole, still not touching ground
. . . burn the "field" (stars) first
. . . burn the remainder (stripes) afterward.
. . . alternative - take it to American Legion or VFW to dispose for free

I have a number of non-DIS friends/former co-workers/co-worker's family in the Ft. M/Naples area. All are safe and fine. Only one home with significant damage. It is a racing friend that has a vacation home he lives in 4-5 months a year. He and his family left there 2 weeks ago and are in Illinois.

1 or 2 without power still. It seems to come and go for one of them.

I think they have all faired better than some.

Alas, if you buy on a Florida Coast, hurricanes are an accepted danger.
At least they are safe and healthy, regardless of property damage.

Absolutely. We are looking for a place to move in Florida nearer the water. Storms are an assumed and accepted risk.

1. We do wish you good luck with a residence near water.
2. At least you accept the risks.
3. There is really no "safe" water residence in Florida.
4. We chose Central Florida, after being Snow-Birds for many years.
5. We can get to water easily, and we are near lots of activities and culture.
6. Besides, we are within the "Disney Bubble". **

** NOTE:
Many people have referred to our area as The "Disney Bubble".
When bad storms come near, they have missed the Disney locale.
It is like Disney has a Force-Field which diverts major storms.
Call it whatever you like, but we have not suffered like other Florida areas.
Yes, there were threats of damage, but we experienced little damage.
