Wow, I just found this thread!!!!
Welcome, Leslie...."Mr. Marathoner!"
What an inspiration your story is!
I did my first marathon ever last year at Disney at the age of 54. I walked every step of the way and finished with less than 10 minutes to spare, but I did it and got my medal. I told myself that if I could do it once, I would never have to do it again and so I pretended the actual marathon was my victory lap.....the reward for all my hard training. I came to the realization that gold medal Olympians only get to stand on the podium for a few minutes of recognition, but I would have almost a full 7 hours to bask in the limelight.....and, by golly, I was going to ENJOY every minute of it! The strategy must have worked because even thought I finished somewhat bruised and bloodied, I was unaware of all my aches and pains until everything was over.
Well this year - against my better judgment - I will be doing it again. This time I will be accompanying my husband for his very first marathon at the age of 58. We'll be there with you at the back of the pack, but together we will all do it. That's the thing about the WISH team......it's impossible to meet us and NOT be inspired! I look so forward to meeting you, not only at the Pop Century meet, but also during our 7-hour victory lap. Training can be brutal, but the end result should be gloriously joyful. I am honored to have you as part of the team.
