My mom and I were at MGM one day this week (Tuesday I think) and we saw not one, but 2 women win the 1,000,000 point prize at Millionaire. It was not in the same show, but it was sooo exciting. They both won a leather jacket and a Disney cruise for 4. I asked a CM how often someone wins the million, and they said every 2 or 3 weeks! I guess people are willing to risk more here than on the real show since all they lose is pins. I got to the 125,000 question in October, and walked away with the hat, shirt, and a few pins. That was FOOLISH! The pins all look the same, except for the point amounts printed on them, so you aren't risking much of anything if you guess. Neither me nor my mom made it into the hot seat this time :( but we were up on the board several times.

Wow! Never saw anyone actually win - does the audience go beserk? I've seem folks get to 500,000 and 1,000,000 and then blow the answer ... and you can feel the tension as the collective audience is holding their breath for the contestant.

Hi, I'm going to be there very soon. Can you tell me how many times a day they do this and how long it takes? I have a 7 year old DS, I don't want him to get bored by being there too long but my sis and I would love to do this.

Thanks!

I believe there are about 7 shows a day. Each show lasts approx. 30 minutes, but that's you need to get in line or get a fast pass prior to that. You can go as many times a day as you want, but once you get in the hot seat, you can't be in the hot seat again for 30 days.

Your 7 year old should not get bored. They play too. I have seen not one, not two but several youngsters under the age of 10 get into the hot seat and go quite a distance !

He may get more hooked than you , mom:)

Thanks! That sounds like it will be loads of fun!

And any youngster age 9 or younger can have an adult accompany them to the hot seat. My 9 year old niece made it into the hot seat (2 weeks before turning 10) and asked that I be down there with her.

We saw at least 3 kids get in to the hot seat while we were there. When the host asked one of them who was smarter (mom or dad?), the boy said his cousin. So his 12 year old cousin helped him. I think that most of the people who get the fastest finger question right are people who guess quickly. For those of you who haven't done it yet, this only matters for the first contestant into the hot seat. After that person, whoever in the audience has the best score (based on your accuracy and your speed) gets to go. The secret is to know the right answer (of course!) and to start pushing that button over and over until the keypad has taken your answer. Don't wait for all the lights on your key pad to light up, or your speed probably won't be fast enough to get you in to the top ten. At certain plateaus, they'll post the top ten contestants.

Oh yeah - they shoot out these confetti streamers and the audience goes pretty crazy. I was down in one of the fastest finger seats for the first lady, and I jumped up and cheered for her when she got it right. We were up in the crowd for the second lady and people cheered, but didn't exactly go crazy like I thought they would. I'd think everyone would just automatically jump up and cheer, but no one stood. Come on everyone - this person just won a free Disney cruise for four people!!

We of course scooped up some of the confetti (free souvenir material) on our way out both times.

What types of questions do they ask? Does it seem like the questions are easier than on the T.V. show?

I'm sure it varies, but the questions do seem easier than on TV. There is usually a Disney trivia question in one of the first few asked. BTW, I was in the audience when a 2 year old English boy went to the hot seat, with his Dad who of course answered the questions. It was cute. Apparently he randomly pushed buttons. ;)

Wow, that is awesome! I had no idea people were winning the grand prize that often!!!! How exciting.
And I'm with you... thinking they should be more excited for the winner. Don't be spoiled sports! If it were me there- I'd be jumping up and down excited for them too! I mean wow... a FREE cruise for 4! :)
