"We reap what we sow -- are you thinking?"

goofygirl, I find myself agreeing with you. I am a religious woman, but I am not a Christian. why should my children learn Christian doctrine and theology in public school? I send them to synagogue to learn about G-d.

Stands claps and whistles for Lucky 4 Me's response!

We always look back to "the good old days" with rose tinted glasses. The "good old days" were a matter of perspective.

I think back on the times prayer was allowed in schools. Holy Cow! Segregation and other socially accepted forms of bigotry were common place then, too! Prayer was common place in schools when husbands could freely beat their wives without fear of repercussion.

I don't believe that God stepped back on Sept 11th. I personally believed that he intervened in order to minimize what could have been an even bigger catastrophe.

Just think how many people are normally at the WTC's on a weekday. 50,000. How many people died? 3,000 (or so). What would have happened if the buildings had fallen over instead of collapsing. How many people would have died if the buildings had collapsed or fallen over at the outset instead of having the time for people to evacuate?

Quite frankly, how anyone who believes in God can look at 9/11 and not see the PROTECTIVE hand of God is actually beyond me.

Oh and......

Golf Claps for Lucky!!

aahmom, I cant believe it, but I actually agree with you on something!

LOL it's not that hard to believe is it?

What excuse is given when something bad happens to a christian? Is that the non-christians fault too? Or is it that a 'sins of the Father' kind of thing?

Ripleysmom you hit the nail on the head with that one.

Golf claps for Ripleysmom!!!!!!!

What did the 3,000 that didn't survive do to warrant their deaths? Why was person "A" able to escape while person "B" died? If God was there to prevent 47,000 deaths, then why didn't he do somethign with the hijackers/aiplanes/etc before they were able to kill those 3,000 to begin with?

Those folks who do not believe in a higher power(be it God, Buddha,Mother Earth or whatever) are the first ones who ask where the higher power is when bad things happen.

If you don't believe a higer power sends the good stuff, then you shouldn't believe a higher power sends the bad stuff either.

I think this will give me some food for thought. Some of it I agree with, some of it I don't.

You have one set of people who believe in God 100%. These are the people who say God was there and prevented an even greater tragedy.

You have another group who try to believe, but struggle. These are the people who ask where God is when bad things happen.

Then you have the people who don't believe. These people accept things at face value. They can't blame God because they don't believe in God.

Who is right? We'll never know in this life, will we?

Personally, I think that the spam email is based on ignorance. I want to be nice here but, I find this type of rhetoric to be very negative.:D

speaking for myself, and the other atheists i know, none of us have "wanted god to bless us" after a tragedy, including 9/11.

Caitycaity,

Thank you. You spoke for me too.

Wow....I agree with so many people on this post and disagre with so many as well. I am not saying that Graham's ideas are completely right but I do think their are many good points. I remember very well what Dr. Falwell said after 911 and I think he was wrong for saying the things that he did at the time he did. Once again not to agree/disagree with him, but to disagree with his timing. Oh, By the way EROS if you would like this thread to make it to Dr. Jerry Falwell I will be glad to hand it to him my self....I see him often in my hometown and business. Just let me know;) :p

Outstanding,MOM........... I know that Jerry just lovvvvvvvvves to hear from the heartland of America. His comments about America being "paid back" by a vengeful GOD for our promiscuity.........and our substance abuse.........and our decadence strike me as IGNORANT, AFFRONTING, DEMEANING, AND DISGRACEFUL. Please tell him that EROS and his DW find such views to be beneath contempt

Me three. I hope she's not referring to atheists who might sing "God Bless America" or people who recited "one nation under god" when in a public gathering. The alternative would be to sit in silence while everyone around you becomes hostile towards your unpatriotic behavior.

I'm thinking what a crock.

Yep, that's exactly what it made me think, too. It's been a long time since I read anything that I found to be so ridiculous and scary at the same time.

Our county grew and prospered thanks in part to some people committiing genocide against the Amercian Indian and using a brutal system of slavery; all the while holding a Bible in thier hands. .

People are entitled to their opinons, but personally I think our country as a entity was way more immoral back then it is today. . and I can't believe that God protected our country when those atrocities were a daily part of life, but "allowed" 9/11 because there is no govenment enforced prayer in schools or because you can buy a "Playboy" at the local convience store. .

9-11 is about our Foreign Policy of our government overseas, period.
To put anything else to it is just a way for a group or individual to get attention to push THEIR agenda onto us.

WillyJ I could not agree with you more. One of the worlds biggest crimes against humanity is what we did to the American Indian. All in the name of god.

In my area they would burn you at the stake if they thought you were a witch.

Let me also add what we did to African's. We took them out of their native land, brought them here in bondage, and kept them in bondage to do our work.
