We Opened Magic Kingdom With MICKEY! The Princesses First Trip 10/17/09-10/24/09

Wow - what an incredible start to your trip!!!:goodvibes

Can't wait to read more!:)

Subbing! :goodvibes What an amazing first day on your girls' first trip to WDW!! :cool1: Can't wait to hear more! :)

Thanks for reading! I'm hoping to get another update in during nap time.

People watching is always fun but for some reason seems especially fun at WDW. You get such extremes from the magical moments to the meltdowns. Sounds like you enjoyed your time out from the rides waiting with Ava just watching. Actually someone should make a reality TV show following families through amusemant parks.

That would make an entertaining show!

Around 2:00 we started to make our way to Main Street. Of course we had our obligatory tour of bathrooms along the way. We found a spot in front of Main Street Bakery. Erin and I ran inside to get some snacks. We got a brownie that was gigantic and chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. The ice cream sandwich was a favorite of Stu's when Stu and I went last year. It wasn't nearly as big this time and the cookies were a little over done. It was just OK. BIG BUMMER!

Something kind of funny happened while we were waiting for the parade to begin. A couple of times Stu got up to look down the street to see what was going on. For some reason this was really bothering the gentleman sitting next to him. I told Stu that he was irritating the guy next to him, so Stu starts making conversation with him. Somehow it comes up that Stu had been in the Marines and now they are BFF's. It is funny how quickly attitudes can change.

Before we knew it the parade was coming our way.

Another family having a Magical Moment.

Two of our favorites-Mickey and Minnie!

Tweedle Dum was so cute. He came up and acted out that he wanted his picture taken.

disney09129.jpg

If Stu had a nanny he would love for it to be Mary Poppins. He has always been sweet on her.

disney09128.jpg

The women that played Lady Tremaine was spot on. She scared me a little bit.

disney09138.jpg

The Fairy Godmother and Cinderella came along to make it all better.

Eric giving a shout out to me-OK maybe it was for Erin and Ava, but a girl has got to be able to have dreams.

The final float comes into view. Look at that beautiful blue sky.

Following the parade we went to Town Hall to look at our Photo Pass pictures from the morning. They gave us a 5x7 for being the opening family which I thought was pretty cool. We chose a print that actually showed us from the front side when the opening was going on. We decided to head out of the park at this point to make our way to Chef Mickey's!

Continued in the next post.

We wanted to take the monorail to the Contemporary, but for some reason they wouldn't let us at that time. We found the walking path and started on our way. Ava fell asleep on the way, so it ended up working out alright. We went into the lobby and this time it was the grownups that needed to find the bathrooms. We found a little area that Erin could chill out in while she waited for us to take our turns.

disney09161.jpg

Ava really didn't care where she was. How can kids do this?

disney09162.jpg

We went outside and explored the pool and beach area. It was kind of entertaining to see the lifeguards all bundled up in their coats, hats, and mitts. They would never survive a North Dakota winter! The beach area had nice white sand, so we had to take off our socks and shoes to test it out. There was nobody out there since it was pretty chilly, so we relaxed for a little bit in a hammock.

It was time to head in for Chef Mickeys! Our ADR was for 5:05 and we were called up for our picture about then. We were seated in the section directly behind the dessert area. Shortly after we got our first plates loaded up the characters started coming out. First was Donald. He signed Erin's book first and then he grabbed Ava's. A couple of pages flipped back and he saw Donald's signature from the morning, so he refused to sign it! That kind of surprised me.

disney09167.jpg

Next up was Mickey. It's funny how the kids don't even question the fact that he was just at Magic Kingdom and now he is here at dinner.

disney09176.jpg

Now it was time to do some napkin waving. Pluto was in our section.

disney09182.jpg

disney09185.jpg

When he was done with his napkin waving duties Pluto stopped by our table. The kids loved how he signed their books on his nose.

Everybody was excited to meet Minnie since we hadn't met her earlier in the day.

At this point we were done eating and had taken care of the tip. Goofy was still pretty far off from making to our area, so we decided since we had met him earlier it was OK to head out. We had a good time at Chef Mickeys, but I think we will try something else next time. The food was just eh, but the characters that you get to meet made it worthwhile. I was also surprised how many people were dining there that were obviously headed for the party that night. I thought they would already be in the park.

After dinner we finally got to take our first monorail ride. We took it around the resort loop back to MK so we could catch a bus back to POP for some hard earned rest.

Up next: Day 2 at Hollywood Studios

You got some great parade pics! I agree with you about dinner at Chef Mickey's. The breakfast, however, is very good! :thumbsup2

I am so jealous that you are going back again! Hopefully it won't be so rainy for you this time! (I had to stop over and check your report out). Isn't having two little girls so much fun!

That's what we're praying for--better weather!! It HAS to be better than the last trip, right?! :goodvibes I LOVE having 2 girls!! I wouldn't trade it for the world!! princess:princess:

Oh--you just HAVE to share the PP picture that you were talking about--the one they got from the front!! I agree with Chef Mickey's as well. We went for breakfast and the food was pretty good but the characters were so rushed. We don't plan on doing it again this next trip.

Enjoy the fact that your girls didn't question seeing Mickey again because my DD was 8 on our last trip to WDW and she did question Mickey being at dinner with us and then being at the Character Spot in Epcot right after. I had some serious explaining to do! Luckily she was fine with my response. I know she probably won't buy it next time we go. :sad2: The magic will still be there but it will be a little different for her. It's so sad when they start to grow up!

:thumbsup2 Great update! :thumbsup2 I LOVE the picture of your little one asleep in the stroller :cutie: How DO they sleep like that :confused3 My girls did that too when they were little! :) Love your pics of the parade! That is on our list of to dos this next trip! The girls weren't interested last time! :goodvibes

What a treat to be the family of day! Memories that will last a lifetime for you and your girls. Your girls are so cute and it looks like you had a perfect first day. Can't wait to read more!:yay:

Somehow, I got behind two updates. I was nearly in tears when I saw the pictures of your family opening the Magic Kingdom. How very awesome!

Great Chef Mickey's pictures. I hope that your dinner was better than our's was in August. It was just blech when we went.

Lovely parade photos and how nice that you were given a free PP photo, is it possible to show us?

I agree about Chef Mickey's great for the characters but the food is only OK, plus it gets very noisy in there. Looks like you all had lots of fun though :goodvibes

Love, love, love your TR. I am going with my oldest princess (leaving the babies at home with Dad - mean huh?) in April. I laughed about the lifeguard comment. I'm hoping the temps will be a big contrast for us! I can't wait to read the rest of your report!

Love that you got to be the family to open the park. I always wanted to do that but my family never gets moving early enough. Can't wait to read more.

:eek:Your kids still take naps!!!
LUCKY!!!!

I got lucky because they both needed one!

That's what we're praying for--better weather!! It HAS to be better than the last trip, right?!

Here is wishing you some sunshine on your next trip! :wizard:

When will you be able to make your ADR's for your next trip?

The girls really enjoyed this parade. I still catch Erin singing the Celebrate Your Dreams Come True song. They weren't so sure about the parade going into it because I told them they don't throw out candy.

I wasn't really that impressed with the food either, but Minnie was there!

We had fun at Chef Mickey's, but we were definitely ready to be done.

Welcome fellow North Dakotan! It is funny that you say that about taking your oldest because I was just wondering today if I could get away with taking just Erin next year. I figured that way I would have an excuse to go again with just Ava when she got older and taller!

Love that you got to be the family to open the park. I always wanted to do that but my family never gets moving early enough. Can't wait to read more.

I was surprised that we got chosen because we there only about an hour before the park opened.

First was Donald. He signed Erin's book first and then he grabbed Ava's. A couple of pages flipped back and he saw Donald's signature from the morning, so he refused to sign it! That kind of surprised me.

First of all, I'm really enjoying your trip report!

Do you think Donald was trying to avoid awkward questions about why his signature looked different?

I'm so glad to hear that your kids got to experience that bit of pixie dust. Especially on their first visit. It sounds like you all had a wonderful first day.

Thank you!! I appreciate it!! :goodvibes We get to make our ADRs on Nov. 23rd!!! Whoo hoo!! :woohoo:

That will be here before you know it!:cool1:

I'm not sure what was up with Donald. He did sign Erin's book and it was amazing how similar it did look to the earlier Donald's signature.

The only problem with a first visit like that is where do you go from there! It was an awesome first day.

I'm here. So magical you got to open the park. I had tears in my eyes seeing all the characters come out. We're going back next week and now I def. think I need to get there at 7:30. I also have 2 princesses. Bummer you didn't like Chef Mickey's
Waiting for more
