We Opened Magic Kingdom With MICKEY! The Princesses First Trip 10/17/09-10/24/09

My whole family is reading along with me (actually I'm reading it out loud to them), and we are in complete awe that you got to do this! What a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!!!

I was getting teary eyed reading this -- so amazing!!!
When we were there in March we got to "open" chef mickey's for dinner and i was teary during that -- i would have been blubbering LOL
What an amazing experience -- congratulations!!
what a gorgeous family!
Shannon:)
p.s. that picture with all the characters is priceless!!

WOW

How wonderful for your whole family.

Thanks for sharing it.

You are welcome. It was a great way to start our trip!

We were in WDW same time as youe, we did HS on 10/18. How amazing to be able to open the park! Love the shot of the girls with Mickey from behind.

That picture was one of our favorites.

Thanks so much for sharing this report!I LOVE "Magic Kingdom Welcome" and this is SO interesting to go "behind the scenes".Did it "spoil" your daughters?Did they expect this "magic" everywhere they went?!LOL:)

It didn't really spoil them because they didn't seem to notice that not everybody was doing it! They can be so oblivious.

Congratulations! What a truly magical start to your vacation at WDW! I don't know if I would have been able to keep myself composed. I'm a little teary eyed just reading your report! I can't wait to read the rest...

Thank you! I was teary eyed for most of the experience. One of the moments that got me the most was when we were waving to everyone and I looked over to my right and said to myself "I'm doing this with Mickey!" and then I looked to my left and said "and my three favorite people"

That picture brought tears to my ears. What a wonderful way to start your vacation!

Great TR. I can't wait to read more.

It truly was a once in a lifetime experience!

I'm glad to hear your family is enjoying it!

This is fantastic! I can't wait to see where Mickey takes you next!

Hopefully I will get an update in today. What happens next was a perfect ending to the whole experience. Would you expect anything less at Disney?

That is cool that you got to open Chef Mickey's! Do you have any pictures to share? Thank you for your kind comments.

Mickey led the girls to the top of the ramp leading down from the train station. Scoop walked along with us.

When we got to the ramp there was a Photo Pass photographer there and Dennis was there with our camera. We were able to get some great family shots with Mickey and Scoop. Erin is so cute in this first one.

It was time for Mickey to move on with his day. Here is Erin and Mickey having a good bye hug.

disney09070.jpg

A hug for little Ava.

disney09071.jpg

A handshake from man to man.

disney09072.jpg

I am sad to see him go, but I know he is off to make some more magic.

disney09073.jpg

Erin had to get in one last squeeze.

disney09074.jpg

Mickey being esorted away by his body guards-isn't that what it looks like?

disney09075.jpg

And one last shout out from Mickey.

disney09077.jpg

At this point Scoop pulled out a lanyard from his satchel. He told the girls that they could each choose a pin. This began Ava's obsession with pins. She is only 3! Erin chose a Minnie cell phone pin and Ava chose a Mickey ears pin that was really cool.

It was time to say our goodbyes to Scoop and Dennis. I am bummed that we didn't get a picture of Dennis since he had the camera. He rocked. Here is Ava and Scoop saying their goodbyes.

disney09079.jpg

It is hard to believe that this was only our first hour in Magic Kingdom! I wonder if Ivy, Reggie, Dennis, and Scoop realize how special they made that morning for us.

Up next: What's next Mom?

What a sweet good-bye. I think it would be so fun to be a CM who gets to be a part of those magical moments for families!

After our amazing first hour it was time to regroup and start our first day of touring in the parks. We grabbed our stroller and headed down Main Street to our first destination-DUMBO. My Ava is very petite and is only 36 inches tall. We had been talking to her for a long time that she was going to be too short to ride several rides. Her response? "But I'm big for Dumbo!" She looks tired, but happy on our first ride.

disney09084.jpg

Here is Stu and Erin flying high.

disney09087.jpg

On the way to our next stop I realized I left my bag on Dumbo. I think I had a heart attack for a minute. I ran back to Dumbo and thankfully my bag was sitting at the podium. WHEW! We made our way to Peter Pan to find out it was down for the day. We made our way back to Pooh and walked right on.

After Pooh Erin was excited to hear that we were finally going to ride the Tea Cups.

disney09089.jpg

The girls really enjoyed themselves on this one.

Next up was the Carrousel.

disney09096.jpg

Next up was PhilharMagic. The show started and probably two minutes in it went down. They told us to hold tight while they fixed the problem. Well, after about 10 minutes they told us we needed to exit. They gave all of us a FP that was good for any ride and didn't expire until 10/31.

Next up was it's a small world. I thought Ava was really getting into this one because she was so quiet, but come to find out she had fallen asleep! When we got to the end of the ride there was nobody waiting. Ava woke up on the way to ride The Haunted Mansion and was CRABBY. We walked over to Big Thunder for FP's and then grabbed some lunch at Pecos Bills while we waited. We all had cheeseburgers and they were OK. I like the fixings bar they had and the cheese to dip your fries in.

After lunch we went back to Big Thunder. Erin and I went on it first and she loved it. When we got back to the stroller this is what we found. She was OUT.

disney09097.jpg

I sat right by the entrance while we waited Stu and Erin to ride. It was kind of fun to listen what goes on at the FP entrance. SO many people just did not understand how the FP system works. One guy asked how much it cost. Another family tried to just walk in and the CM told them it was they would need a FP for that line, so they walked over to the machines and got them. They came right back to the line and they thought now that they had a FP they could go right in. They were pretty angry to find out that they needed to wait for about 40 minutes for their time slot. It kept me entertained anyway. Here is a crowd picture during my wait.

disney09098.jpg

After Big Thunder we went to get FPs for the Jungle Cruise and then went on The Magic Carpets. We woke Ava for this one and she was not happy. In this picture she is asking to be picked up.

disney09100.jpg

When I said no this is the response I got.

disney09101.jpg

During the ride Erin had us up high most of the time and then she suddenly shot us down. Stu caught my response perfectly!

disney09103.jpg

Next we took our Jungle Cruise and then walked right on Pirates. I can't believe how little we waited today. Stu and Erin decided they wanted to walk through the Treehouse before we headed to the parade.

So far we have had a pretty productive day and it is only 2:00!

Up next: The parade and dinner at Chef Mickey's

What a great way to start out your vacation! The Magic of Disney is just awesome!! Can't wait to read more.

Wow! What a great start to your trip! I love that Disney has magic and then Magic. It probably would have been a wonderful trip without any extras like opening the MK, but then your trip gets catapulted into a whole new level of wonderful because of random chance. :wizard:

Hi Heidi!! I just found your TR and I am in AWE that your family was chosen to open the park!!! What an amazing and magical experience! And what a great way to start your very first family vacation to WDW!! :lovestruc I'm enjoying your TR and can't wait to read more!! I have 2 girls as well. Our first family WDW vacation was this past May and we are heading back this coming May!!

What an amazing way to start your first day at MK!! I've always wondered how they pick out the families for the opening ceremony and didn't know (until I read of a Make a Wish family's experience) all that is involved. btw I can fully understand why they picked your family - the girls are adorable and you all are a truly beautiful family :grouphug:

I enjoyed your FP comments. I know my family memebers have asked me several times if I bought the FastPass option on our tickets. Funny!

I was a little worried that your wait for rides would be longer because of being involved with opening the park, but you still had walk-ons! :thumbsup2

I've been lucky enough to have done some great experiences in WDW but opening the park looks so special, you have some fantastic photos and how nice of Dennis to take them all for you :goodvibes

Bless little Ava, I hope she had a good nap later!

Wow! What an amazing start to your trip! What a beautiful picture of Mickey leading your girls down the ramp!

What an incredible experience! I can't wait to see how the rest of the trip turns out!:goodvibes

Dennis(the CM that coordinated the opening) said that it was easy to be up that early when you got to his job every day.

The Magic really is awesome, isn't it?

It definitely would have been wonderful anyways, but this was like putting 50 cherries on top of the sundae!

I am so jealous that you are going back again! Hopefully it won't be so rainy for you this time! (I had to stop over and check your report out). Isn't having two little girls so much fun!

Thank you for the sweet comments about my family!

I enjoyed your FP comments. I know my family memebers have asked me several times if I bought the FastPass option on our tickets. Funny!

It was definitely interesting to watch and listen to. I wish I would have asked the CM what the most interesting thing he has ever heard.

I was a little worried that your wait for rides would be longer because of being involved with opening the park, but you still had walk-ons! :thumbsup2

I was a little worried too, but then I told myself to get a grip. I would guess that we were on about the fifth cycle of Dumbo and then everything else that morning was walk-on! This was a day that had the Halloween party in the evening, so maybe that is why the morning was slow.

I've been lucky enough to have done some great experiences in WDW but opening the park looks so special, you have some fantastic photos and how nice of Dennis to take them all for you :goodvibes

Dennis was the best. I can't say enough about how cool he was. Thankfully Ava will just sleep when she is tired. You will see this as the week goes on. We never would have been able to get away with just forging on when Erin was this age!

Wow! What an amazing start to your trip! What a beautiful picture of Mickey leading your girls down the ramp!

Thank you!

What an incredible experience! I can't wait to see how the rest of the trip turns out!:goodvibes

It was definitely a week of fantastic memories!

Wow - what an incredible start to your trip!!!:goodvibes

People watching is always fun but for some reason seems especially fun at WDW. You get such extremes from the magical moments to the meltdowns. Sounds like you enjoyed your time out from the rides waiting with Ava just watching. Actually someone should make a reality TV show following families through amusemant parks.
