Just wanted to let everyone know that we LOVED our stay at the AKL the last week of May!!!

The resort was absolutely beautiful. Check in was very quick, and even though it was 7 p.m., we got an upgrade to Savannah view!!! We didn't even ask. I had faxed our room request for a NS room close to the lobby and restaurants. We were on the Kudu Trail overlooking the Sunset savannah, second section, 3rd floor, just a short walk to the lobby. Giraffes right outside our balcony!! Also, the room was furnished tastefully and seemed in good shape. I loved the bathroom area set up as well as the enclosed closet area. The queen beds were nice, too! We are used to the moderates and I could definitely tell a difference in the rooms. Many have complained of the rooms being dark...I didn't find this to be the case. The room had several lights on the wall and a stand up lamp in the corner. We kept our curtains open during the day.

We had two meals at Boma...dinner and breakfast. Both were outstanding. The breakfast is the best I've had on any disney property. We never had a chance to eat at the Mara.

Our boys, 9 and 7, enjoyed the pool, although they were a bit disappointed at the slide after stays at HRH and CSR. Still, they were able to enjoy themselves. Also, the hot tub was great. My only complaint would be that the pool was crowded and people tend to take more chairs than necessary. Lots of them were empty except for a towel. My family usually just takes 2 chairs for the 4 of us...

Bus service was wonderful. We never had much of a wait for a bus. Also, the Zawadi (spell??) Marketplace was one of the nicest gift shops I've seen in a hotel...lots of nicer, upscale merchandise.

Overall, I'd give the resort a 9 out of 10. We will definitely stay there again if the price is right!

Thanks for the wonderful post dizneyfan. We are going there in August - now I can hardly wait!!

Your report is making me wish my life away! 5 months can't pass fast enough. I avoided the AKL for years because I just didn't think I was interested in the theme, etc.

Went last year only because friends were going there and fell in LOVE.

I'd take AKL busses anyday over EPCOT resort bus or WL bus transport.

I thought the CMs in the marketplace were great. My daughter loves to talk to Cast and they would spend lots of time with here.

Great review. We're staying at the AKL, for the first time, this December. Your review makes me want to leave right now. Thanks.

:duck:

we leave for AKL at 6:00am in the morning!!!!! Can't wait! Checking in around 2:00pm...hope they can work some magic for us... it's gonna be great:hyper: :goodvibes :bitelip:

Another fan here! We love AKL! I want to stay at other resorts too, but I keep thinking how wonderful AKL is, and I keep putting off the others! We were there in Dec, return again in July and Dec this year (hoping for great AP rates then!).

Bimmy56, my family will be there at the same time as you! See my counter? We will be the blonde family with two boys 13&10 and I'm sure we will be walking around with goofy grins on our faces!

Sending lots of PD~*~*~*~*~*~* your way for magic, daniluvsdisney!;)

So glad to see you enjoyed one of our favorite resorts, dizneyfan!:wave2:

As for the pool thingie...we've experience that at most of the other resorts...:( Some people just are "chair hogs"...the end!

Besides that...this place is just AWESOME!!!!!

Next time, check out their wonderful health club and get a massage or try their concierge level!
Total BLISS!!!!::yes::

We can't wait for our August stay!!! Your stay sound really nice - congrats on the upgrade!!!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!!! We were there @ the end of May as well. We loved it.

So glad you liked AKL. It is a gem of a resort for sure - stunning and unique and inviting:sunny:
The pool chair problem is rampant at all the resorts. It's a sign of the times, I'm afraid. Many people have no consideration for others. I witnessed it firsthand at AKL and WL in April. One brazen hussy even had the gall to take my ziploc bag from on top of my chair for herself (put somethings in it and put it in her beach bag) and put what I'd had inside on top of a nearby trash can.  I watched all of this from the pool b/c she dragged chairs from another area over by my chair (we too only had 2 chairs for the 4 of us) - thereby blocking a passageway.
Anyway, the lifeguard people came by and moved her chair away (along w/ some others) and I so badly wanted to take back my priceless:cool: ZipLoc bag but didn't (I store my sunscreen in it) - of course I never saw her again...Some people have that "whatever..." mentality and always will - they have no regard for rules. I also saw one family at WL "save" 5 or maybe 6 front-row chairs at WL by the slide and then never return. Pool attendants kept coming by and asking the people in nearby chairs but no one knew who was "sitting" there. I was there for at least 3 hours - next time, rather than stew, I will move the towels if I need a seat (or ask a pool attendants do it). Sorry to rant:smooth:

What I've seen at WDW regarding chair hogging at pools doesn't even come close to what happened to me at the Hilton in Los Cabos. The breakfast buffet was next to the pool so my husband, son, and I went over to grab a bite after putting our things on a chaise and chairs by the pool. A man and his family came by and took our things off and proceeded to take our chairs - I went over and said excuse me, those are our chairs and we are headed right back to sit down. He started arguing and said he had had those chairs since 7 AM (funny, he was dressed in Sunday clothes and didn't look like he'd been near the pool all day and the chairs had been totally empty before we took them). He then called me several four letter words, took my husband's book and started to throw it in the pool before his wife dragged him away. It was very strange, I thought the man was going to have a heart attack, he was no younger than 70.

Thank goodness my husband was in the buffet line and didn't witness what was going on - I would have hated to be witness to a fist fight. I think this man thought he could bully me out of our chairs as I am short and female - little did he know what he was up against as I didn't back down and held my own :-)

When it comes to pool chairs, the weirdest of human behaviors can start to take hold. I just don't get it. We have found far more civil behavior at the WDW resorts - not perfect, but more civil than other resorts we've traveled to!

I've stayed at AKL twice and my experience (once ON the bus) ranged from 14-21 minutes.)

3redheads:

I would say it took about 15 minutes to get to MK. Really it seemed pretty quick to all the parks. The one exception is the ride to Downtown Disney...the distance is one thing, but add in stops at a water park and two Downtown Disney stops. This is the only complaint I have about the transportation from AKL.

Thanks to all the others who have responded....I really enjoyed posting my review and just remembering the wonderful trip we had. I so look forward to visiting this resort and "the world" again soon!

We stayed at AKL in May this year too and loved it! It will be hard to decide where to stay our next trip because I would miss this lodge. My DS's (12 & 9) loved the animals. I though the bus service was wonderful. We ate breakfast at Boma every morning for 8 days.

Wonderful review! Will be there in a few days for our first WDW trip! Can't wait!!:hyper:
