We leave in 5 hours!

Finally..we leave in about 5 hours to "The World."

True story that happened yesterday, I got stopped by a cop going 48 in a 30 zone (I really had no idea it was 30 there..or that I was going 48) I had no license on me, and no registration in the car (why??) I also had no seatbelt on. I was so bummed. The cop asked where I was going, and I sheepishly replied, "Disney World?" He peeked in the car and saw I had no luggage. So I explained, I'm leaving tomorrow, and just trying to finish up my errands.

Now, if I were 20, or 28..I may have 1/2 a chance of getting off with a smile. But at 40, it's not that easy. However, I was SO LUCKY the officer let me go with a warning. I consider it my own personal PIXIE DUST!!

So, we leave soon. Any last minute advice? We have a 21 hour drive ahead of us.

That's hilarious. The excitement gets the best of all of us sometimes! If you're not on your way yet, you should be very soon. My only advice is to take a deep breath, enjoy the drive...... and FEEL THE MAGIC!

BTW, at 41 I feel your pain.

You're more than welcome! Just look back at what happened today and find the humor. It really is a cute story. (Probably didn't feel like it at the time). It sounds like something that would happen to me. Hope your trip is all you want it to be. Have fun!

We all feel like we're in a pressure cooker sometimes while trying to get those last minute details taken care of...and everything seems to go wrong. I have found that those times can make the funniest stories later on. I'll have to find a previous post of mine describing our 2004 trip down. Maybe I can copy and paste it.

You know you're a true camper/Fort Fiend when... you're traveling pregnant, with a 1 yr old, and DS1 screams nonstop for the first 200 miles for no apparent reason. When the screaming stops, DH says "Look in your mirror and see if everything is OK." I look in the mirror and yell "There's fire coming out of the back!"(of the camper) DH pulls over to find that the bike rack had come loose and we had been dragging the bikes down the interstate for an undetermined length of time causing huge sparks (the bikes were not useable that trip). Mild mannered Clark Kent type DH threw a Donald Duck fit right there on the side of the road, kicking gravel, throwing the bike rack, the whole works. As we come into downtown Orlando, in the center lane of course, I look back to check on DS1. I see that he has something all over his face, hands, hair. I ask DH "Did you give him chocolate at the last stop?" Then the aroma suddenly answered that question. There was no way to pull over so we had to press on. With windows down and our gag reflexes being challenged to the extreme, we made it to the Fort where we were given a site that was too small for our TT (travel trailer). We did finally get DS clean, threw his onesie away, and got a site large enough for the TT. Turned out to be one of our greatest trips and gave us memories we can never forget!... (No matter how hard we've tried!)

So you see OP, and whoever else is reading....it may start out rough, but at Disney, happy endings really do still happen.

PS, I would have gladly taken a speeding ticket over that fiasco! HA! HA! HA! .......... We must have left our personal stash of pixie dust at home that day! We had to reload when we got there!

Thanks for keeping me going, kampfirekim. That is a great, well, a pretty horrific story. LOL. Our drive was a total of 22 hours. I'm really beat. 7 of us in a minivan, and the kids were SO GOOD. The only bickering was from my 21 y.o. DD and her bf.

My husband and I planned on driving and sleeping in shifts. Didn't quite work out that way, since there really is no "sleeping" in a single van seat. At least that is what we found. We could cat-nap for 30 or 40 minutes maybe..but it was uncomfortable.

Our plan is for AK in the morning. It's raining now, and there's more predicted tomorrow. I should have grabbed those dang rain ponchos. I didn't..but I'm not so scared to try AK in the rain. I've read good things.

Sometimes it helps just to know you're not the only one stuff happens to. Car sleeping is never comfortable.

Have fun at AK. I love AK in the rain. It poured once while we were on the Kilamanjaro Safari! It was fabulous! The animals were running everywhere and we got some of the best pics ever! Not to mention the fact that it cooled everything down a lot, but you're there now, so heat may not be a prob. We go in July/Aug. BTW, you can get ponchos there if you left them at home. No biggie. We don't even use them that much unless its a downpour. We don't mind being wet.

I couldn't help but laugh at the bickering. My parent let a cousin go with us a couple of times and we bickered like crazy. We were like sisters anyway so it wasn't unusual. Any way, have a great day in the AK and don't miss Festival of the Lion King.
