There is not a smoking/nonsmoking side of the ship for verandahs...just deck 4 and 9 and you won't be affected by these on your verandah.

Thank you. We're not smokers so I don't normally pay attention to those things. We're on Deck 6 so hopefully there won't be anything blowing our way from the smoking sections or neighbors.

I just booked room 8002 for a cruise in July, 2010. I'm glad to hear good things about it. We were originally in a room under the Goofy pool and I was reading about chair scraping noise early in the morning when the crew was setting things up. My aunt is going with us and is a light sleeper, so that made me concerned and we changed to a room under the spa, where I've heard it is very quiet. That's what I'm hoping for at least!

We did hear kids running/stomping above us in 8004 at night, to the point where my kids who were in bed were yelling at them. In the morning you will hear carts pushed by the CMs with towels and such from the CM access area on that side.

I just realized you are on the Magic. We'll be on the Wonder. Not that it makes a huge difference. I'm not expecting dead silence (I mean, it is Disney and a ship...there will be noise), but the idea of waking up at 5:30am with chairs scraping above me...well, that did not sound pleasant and that kept getting reported for the original stateroom we were booked in. I think we'll be happier where we are, cut off a bit from everyone else. Room reports seem overwhelmingly positive. Here's hoping!
