Anyone stayed in 8002? Look in the FAQ here and there were 2 good comments but no mention if this is a good location when we are docked in the ports...

TIA :)

LOL! You can check out the rooms around it. Very good location. I can't tell if you are on the Eastern or Western but at CC you will be able to watch the Captain on the bridge while docking. :) That was "very cool" for our kids. We were in 8004 and he turned around at one point and acknowledged those of us out on our verandahs watching him.

Please explain--what makes a good or bad location when you are docked in ports?

If you mean at Castaway, normally the ship "backs" into the dock, in which case you are on the side facing the dock. However, this is by no means uniform--we have been to Castaway when the captain pulled in front first. For other ports, it would depend on where your cruise is going, whether you are scheduled to dock or tender at St. Thomas (if you're going there), etc. This is on the port side. That's the non-smoking side on the open decks. It is the side the tenders attach to if you are going to a tender port, so it normally faces the islands at tender ports.

Really!!! She scared me to death, I though that was not FUNNY at all :headache: cuz I thought of my kids right away. I would not even joke like that to scare anyone :scared1:.

Thank you very much. I felt better now. Now I know she was just kidding....
Western, 07.24.09 - that's our sailing, i mean 07.25.09

I've never stayed on Deck 8, but your cabin looks good:

1) it is near the forward elevators (easy access)
2) it is under the spa (quiet)
3) the only people in the hallways will be the other passengers in these 8 cabins ....and the crew of course (quiet)
4) it isn't connecting (quiet)

Have a wonderful time...

We enjoyed watching the Captain out on the bridge overhang when he was docking the ship in the ports, which we did at CC and is the norm there. Can't offer any advise on the OP's cruise until they tell us if they are going on a western or eastern. We were on an eastern for our 8004 stay...looked out into the bay in St. Maarteen. On the western in Cozumel we docked on different sides of the dock each time so you really won't know if you will be looking at the city on the port side if you dock on the left of the dock or the starboard side of another ship if you dock on the right side of the dock. In KW the SB side was towards the city/PS looked out on the water.

I don't choose our stateroom based on which side of the ship we will be on or views in port since that can vary due to a number of reasons for a change in itinerary. I select the cat 10/8 that is furthest forward on deck 6 or 7.

Just being familiar with the poster I knew that she was not serious and was just posting and smiling while she typed. She did not mean to upset you and would never have told a child that the room was haunted. I think that would definitely be noted in one of the stateroom reports. ;)

It is a great location on the ship, regardless of what you will be able to see from your verandah in port. You won't be in your room long enough in port to see much with everything there is to do onboard and excursions. :thumbsup2

Thanks Anna. How are you? Your sched is so hectic, how do you do it?
Take care.....

That was the first thing I looked for after I read it, a smiling face but there was none so I worried but I should have known that I am taking Disney Cruise, no matter what, we will have fun.

Thank you all :)

I'm good. Sometimes work gets so hectic, I take a break and check out the disboards....it is a stress reliever for me. Sometimes I stay here a little too long, so I don't have to face the tasks at the top of my list!

Too bad I have these stress relievers too:

;) work on my door magnets
;) study my packing list
;) update my 'To Do' list
;) create more lists
;) update my FE Gift Exchange list

It's amazing I get any "work" done. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Hope you have a wonderul cruise! I think you'll get off the boat one week before we get on. Take good care of her for us!!!

Sorry for upsetting you. I was kidding. ;) (Has anyone even died on a Disney cruise in order for a room to be haunted?)

But you do realize if EVERYONE asked about their room, we would need another board. :rolleyes1

Yes, actually there have been some who have. I would imagine over the course of ten years that would happen more frequently than you would expect. One person who participated in a DIS group did also. You won't find details anywhere because the group agreed not to post about it on the boards out of respect for the family.

All I could say is WOW!!! You are a superwoman..... and a very organized one...

Will take care of her of course...... How I wish we are in the same cruise....

We were on that side for our Western... we faced the water in Key West. In Grand Cayman, they were tendering from right below our verandah, and we faced the water. In Cozumel we faced the land. In CC we faced the dock. We really liked looking out into the ports instead of at land... made it feel more private instead of waking up staring into another ships' windows!

We stayed a little farther down in 7022 and a deck lower, but we loved the location. The forward elevators are not nearly as crowded as the other elevators and there is not as much traffic through the hallways. My DH and kids loved watching the dock side activities, and we got to see the CC crew waving goodbye with the Mickey hands from our cabin. In Cozumel we watched a person running for the ship and nearly missing it! The Walt Disney Theater is right there, took no time to get to the shows. The downside is the drink station is aft, so it is a little walk to there. Kids clubs are in the middle, so getting them there was not a problem.

:headache: Of all the time I spend on these boards, I didn't even think about that. I'm pretty sure our room IS on the smoking side. I'm going to check availability and then see if I can just shift over. If not no big deal, but since we're not cruising until Sept it can't hurt to just call up and ask.

Never mind, I just double checked and I'm on port side. :upsidedow

Thank you all for your responses. I am so glad I asked this question as I saw this kind of inquiry before.

DIS Rocks....... :worship:

There is not a smoking/nonsmoking side of the ship for verandahs...just deck 4 and 9 and you won't be affected by these on your verandah.
