We just couldn't do a no park trip!

We booked our Disney Fantasy cruise 1.5 years in advance for this summer, and our intention was to take a year off from parks, and do resort stuff so we booked AKV Savannah view. Also thought we could save some money from not buying APs.

After a bit of thought, we realized that for 6 days, that would be diffcult, as we like to stay busy. So, we contemplated Sea World, Universal, Lego Land, Disney Quest and Water Parks.

Thought we had it figured out for Water Parks and Disney Quest, but it never felt right.

So after a great family discussion, we realized that we bought DVC for the parks, and we are happiest when we are in the parks. :cheer2: As well as sitting on the balcony at OKW eating dinner!

Figured out that the cost of the AP portion of this trip is just a little bit more or the same cost as any of those ideas we contemplated above.

We feel really good about our decision, and the kids are relieved. I don't think our little guy actually understood that we weren't going to actually walk under the ball or sit in front of the castle! :rotfl:

I know there are others out there who feel like us, as I've read the threads on here, so I wanted to give moral support for those who may feel like they need to take a break from parks for various reasons...listen to your gut, and your family of course, and plan the trip that is best for your group even if it means going to the parks often!

Happy summer travels to all, Tiger

And this was my response to your thread on 3/30/12 (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2902839):

"As a veteran park-goer, I have only one suggestion for you . . . don't do it! I am certain I could not stay at Kidani (or any WDW resort for that matter) and not go to a Disney park. And to do it for 6 whole days:scared1:

Sorry . . . I realize that I am no help.:sad2:"

I am glad that you came to your senses!!:thumbsup2 Have a great vacation!!

Yup! You were right. I know there are others in the same predicament - after reading the DISboards though, I can see some people feeling confused or burned out, as there are lots of people, especially on Theme Parks Board who feel that they can only go to parks every 3 years, as the parks are falling apart. This doesn't apply to us, but it can make for some conflicting feelings about the parks at times.

Our magical trips are focused on the parks and the resort, which is an awesome combination!

It just didn't feel right therefore to not go to the parks at all, especially since we have spent a fortune on DVC and associated costs for our trips. The parks are the reason!!!

Thanks for enabling our park love! :rotfl:

Right there with you! We are doing a last minute trip in July on points (that are about to expire) from a newly purchased resale contract (we originally planned to rent those points out to help pay for the resale but...). Anyway, the thinking was, no parks - hey, we weren't even supposed to be using those points and we weren't planning on buying our APs until January 2013 (our next trip). But, well, I got lucky and cobbled together 6 nights in a BWV preferred view studio and, how the heck can we stay at BWV and not go into Epcot?! :confused3 Funny, though - I do all the vacation planning and when I told my DH that I had decided to order the APs for the July trip, he asked me why I wouldn't have ordered them. I told him about the "no park" idea and he said "What?! Are you crazy?" - so that's what he thinks about non-park trips ;)

So I hear you Tiger - we are also just not at the point where we can go to Disney without popping into the parks. After this exercise, I honestly don't think we ever will be...

Right there with you but I have to explain to my 42 year old DH why he couldn't go to the park. Be within 100 miles of Orlando and not visit the world:scared1:, NO WAY!

if you really want to do a non-park stay - stay offsite - that is the only way I can do it.

it is too hard staying at WDW and not going to the parks.

I'm an adult, and have friends who don't like Disney nearly as much as I do, and we've stayed at Jambo without going to parks. This was only a little part of my January stay, though. I'm glad you figured out what really felt right for you!

I'm hoping we survive our NO Park Trip in 21 Days.
We have Water Parks and Sea World Planned.
Doing Mickey's BBQ and Camp Ground Stuff.
Making T-shirts at DTD, riding bikes and boats...
I think staying at a resort we have never been to (OKW) will be fun too.
Plus we were just there in April and December. :)

Glad you worked it out!! I hope you have a fab trip, and there would be no way we could stay at Boardwalk without going to Epcot either. Hubby actually booked BLT at first, as he thought it would be cool for kids, and I reminded him that staying at MK without actually going in was going to be torture!!

Exactly! My hubby has been playing along, but he said he realized he couldn't do it either, yet he was expecting our kids to be ok with it. LOL!

Could never stay off-site as we paid way too much money into DVC, but you make a good point there with being away from the magic.

Thanks! We had a family talk about being very blessed to get to go to WDW so many times, and so it wasn't a bad or sad thing that we couldn't go into the parks, as we have been so many times, and will go so many more, and it was then that our babes reminded us that the Disney parks are home for us, and it would feel weird for them to not be able to experience all of our fav attractions together as a family.

I'm hoping we survive our NO Park Trip in 21 Days.

Best of luck!:wizard: Hope you have a fab trip. We have stayed at almost all Disney resorts on property, both Disney and DVC, and OKW is our absolute fav. It truly feels like home, and we are already missing not staying there this summer, but we miss Animal Kingdom, and are very excited to finally stay at Kidani! OKW is a special place. Enjoy!

Tiger :)

We certainly don't stay in the parks from open-to-close any longer, but NO PARKS? NO WAY! We might go for just a few attractions, a special food treat, or shopping, but we need some access to te parks when we're on property.:earsboy:

I understand all too well, I don't know if we could ever do a trip without going to the parks. Have a fabulous time! :thumbsup2
