We invite you, if you dare ……… Summer plans 08/04 Day 25

Karin...I just finished reading your PTR, so glad I'm all caught up. Wow...I've missed a lot of your great updates. :yay: for your DISmeets and your fireworks cruise...that will be so much fun. We also love POP, but I would give anything to stay on the 12th floor MK view again, lucky you for getting BLT. :woohoo: What a nice surprise from Ron. :)

Hope Tom is feeling better!

I always love to hear about your castaway cay days! That cabana... if the accommodations on the ship were not so nice... looks like it would be nice place to have a bit of an extended beach stay!

We used Bonine this last trip, one per day and chewable and they were fabulous! I usually get vertigo after a cruise and NADA this time. I am sold!
.

Karin I have never had motion sickness travelling and have faired well crossing the English Channel, 2 Whale Watches and of course my cruise 20 years ago. I did however experience Vertigo after the cruise , but not severe or long lasting !!I had NO idea that cruising could cause that but a friend told me and my doctor confirmed it !!! I am looking forward tothe shopping!! I am a little leery about thus charging to the ship account for when I go with P &P in May. Can you explain in detail how this works !!!!

I had not heard about vertigo after the cruise - well, shoot! This could potentially be a serious issue for me as it is how my MS presented and fear it would bring on an exacerbation of MS. Time to call the neurologist.

Karin, hope the rest and meds are helping Tom and he is beginning to feel better.

Haha, I love that Karin has become our personal DCL expert!

I really hope Tom gets better soon. You guys are leaving for Disney! I'm keeping him in my thoughts.

No, you don't need a prescription for it. They sell it at the drug store although here it doesn't seem to be as prevalent as dramamine. I ordered it either through drugstore.com or amazon, can't recall (probably amazon).

I have the same thing, I don't actually produce tears at all and what I do is non-nutritive. I have Rx drops for 2x a day and then a couple of different kind of drops to provide immediate relief though I find that doesn't last long so don't really use them much though I probably should.

For me I find that wind causes tremendous issues, as does driving at night or in the rain, basically anything that causes my eyes to strain at all. I do wear Rx sunglasses which helps as I'm not straining to see and have extra large lenses to keep as much air out as possible. Too vain to go to goggles. :rotfl:

I don't know if you've ever tried a sleep mask at night but it can really help them to recover since it blocks the air out whereas when we sleep we don't close our lids 100%, as can a cold or warm compress for more immediate relief. I always joke that I look like Doris Day with the eye mask but it really does help, especially at certain times of the year. In bright sun like that I do tend to double dip these days with a hat and glasses and that aids a little as well. Flying kills my eyes, they usually take a couple of days to recover, they get very dried out in the cabin.

I feel your pain, literally! NO fun at all. For me it's become more a matter of how bad do they hurt, it is rare that they don't hurt at all.

Have you considered the plugs or looked into tear duct surgery? I'm apparently not a candidate but they have the dissolvable ones and then the more permanent ones and we have chatted about trying them just to see if they'd help, though my doc thinks they most likely won't given that the few tears I do make are non-nutritive.

I use eye "drops" once a day and it helps. But there were a lot of new things to consider. I guess I will have a longer talk with my doctor next visit.
Thanks for all your experience and tips.
I usually wear a hat at CC, but the hat gives me a headache (I don't wear anything come rain or shine), so it is nice to get back to the cabana, sit in the shade and enjoy the fun. ;)

Another change :cheer2: Lovin' it!!!! I was actually looking to change back to 23-29th at ahem...YC :beach: then we can head home for Labor Day fireworks :yay:

Aug 23 - 29 would work fine for us. :rotfl2: And YC would be an awesome choice, we would just be "next door" at the BC. :thumbsup2

I am not prone to motion sickness either, Rosie. Just good to know what to take "should" it hit. ;)
I had never heard of Vertigo before, so I had to google it. I had no ides you can suffer from it after a cruise. :confused3

You are allowed to miss a few updates, you were on vacation - at WDW!!!!!!!!!!!
We are so happy the DISmeets worked out. We are a little short on time in February, so the cruise will be fun and it will be awesome to see all our friends.
I was SO happy to go back to Pop, but I knew we would not go to a park if we had to travel somewhere. Staying right next to MK at BLT will give us the opportunity to enjoy that first evening to the fullest.

We were so surprised when Ron announced his present! I didn't expect anything so big, he is such a dear friend. :goodvibes

Tom is doing much better. He gets daily treatments and it helps him alot, and he is at least out of work until the rest of the week. I am so happy he gets to relax a little. :goodvibes

I always love to hear about your castaway cay days! That cabana... if the accommodations on the ship were not so nice... looks like it would be nice place to have a bit of an extended beach stay!

Ann, one day you need to get Steve on one of these cruises. They are so much fun. And CC is just heaven on earth.
We love the Cabanas. They are a bit on the pricey side, but so worth their money for all the luxury they offer.
I would not mind a two or three day stay at CC at all. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the place! :goodvibes

Christine, I had not heard (or experienced) it either. But I am glad you heard about it and were able to get your doctor's opinion on it!

Tom is doing better, he started a set of treatments today and it does help him, he's just not 100% yet.

Me too...Sorry Tom

He's doing better, thank you, Jeanette. I am just glad we still have nearly 3 weeks to go, so he will be fit when we travel. :goodvibes

Haha, I love that Karin has become our personal DCL expert!

I really hope Tom gets better soon. You guys are leaving for Disney! I'm keeping him in my thoughts.

DCL sailes person might be more like it. :rotfl2: I would have never thought that we would love cruising so much, but we really fell for it, hook, line and sinker. ;)

Tom is doing treatments and they seem to help - we are leaving soooooo soon, it's unbelievable. :scared1:

Just wanted to let you know that we are

IN THE TEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

19 days until we leave. :dance3: :woohoo: :dance3:

All caught up Karin
Your plans sound wonderful
Sorry to hear about Tom's back - I hope he is beginning to feel better ::goodvibes
I do think that the BLT rooms look lovely, I'd like to stay their one day
I remember reading ages ago that there was a strange bathroom/kitchen/sink area in the studios - what do you think of them :confused3

:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Jill in CO

Thank you!

A little over three weeks until we meet, Ann! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I am glad you are here, Linda! :goodvibes
I am sure we'll need some advice on our summer cruises. :thumbsup2

Tom is on the mend, slowly but surly. He needs to do some treatments and is on sickleave for the rest of this week, but he feels a lot better already. :thumbsup2

You are right Linda, I did read about that too. I think they had the bathroom sink placed oddly outside, but as far as I know they had a makeover and it is now really neat. I promise to take some more pics of the studio when we stay there in February.
We found it really nice and so convenient to just walk over to the MK. ;) The studios are smaller than your usual Disney resort room, but the location makes more than up for it.
Our new preferred resort for short stays. :thumbsup2

Oh, and btw the Top of the World lounge is awesome! I'm not sure if you have to stay there on points but the view and bar itself are incredible. :goodvibes

Day 5, February 20

Day at Sea

Today we will be able to sleep in. Maybe we will walk up to Cabanas to get some coffee and tea, but I doubt it.
Around 10 we will get changed and ready to head upstairs to Palo for brunch at 10.30am. We have never had brunch that early, but it makes sense, as we usually end up there already stuffed from breakfast elsewhere. So this time we will arrive hungry and be able to sample even more of their goodies.

I guess we will have a plate of their yummy cold fare,

IMG_3677.jpg

before sharing a pizza

IMG_3683.jpg

and then get a hot dish.

IMG_3687.jpg

And then it will be time for desserts.

IMG_3688.jpg

We might even have a glass of champagne to go with it.

IMG_3680.jpg

Around 1am we will wobble back to our stateroom and take a little break. Once changed again we will either play the Midship detective agency or join one of the tastings they offer on board,

IMG_1741.JPG

or even just explore the ship and sit out on the top deck. In the later afternoon it will be time to pack up all our stuff again, so we will be able to have everything ready once it is time to put it outside our stateroom. And we might even watch “Disney’s Believe”

before dinner in our assigned main dining room. We will then enjoy our last dinner on board

and after that will head back to the stateroom, put dinner clothes into the suitcase and change back into something more casual, before putting the suitcase outside the stateroom. I guess we will spend some more time up on deck watching the DREAM sail back to Port Canaveral

before we will sit out on the veranda with a last adult beverage, before we finally go to bed.

I use eye "drops" once a day and it helps. But there were a lot of new things to consider. I guess I will have a longer talk with my doctor next visit.
Thanks for all your experience and tips.
I usually wear a hat at CC, but the hat gives me a headache (I don't wear anything come rain or shine), so it is nice to get back to the cabana, sit in the shade and enjoy the fun. ;)

You need a new hat! It shouldn't hurt or give a headache, if it does (for me anyway) that means it is probably too tight. I'm not a big fan of hats at all but it really does help when it's super bright out like that and does help the wind, though really I think the large sunglasses help most, I typically leave them on even in the pool! I'll get a bit of a headache if it's a baseball hat but the floppy sun hat is a bit easier on my head and fits a little better around the sunglasses. Anything after a few hours does bug me though but that's more of an itchy head feeling :rotfl:

Restasis (Ciclosporin) is what I use (Rx), 2x a day to increase the tear production and then Freshkote is the other rx drops I have that I use as needed. It seems to work better for the more painful flare ups than the OTC brand I was using but I do keep those around as well. Something you might want to toss into your beach bag is the single serve regular drops that you can just get at the drugstore. You can use those as much as you want with no effect and they do provide some immediate relief. Theratears is my favorite and it's nice if you have a flare up and you are out to just pull a little one out, use it and toss it but you aren't worried about a whole bottle going bad. I have them stashed in the glove box, my purse, desk at work, the junk drawer in the kitchen and definitely in my travel bag!

They also say that taking fish oil (Omega 3) can really help. I haven't seen it personally help me but my doctor says many folks have good results with it. Theratears sells it's own "dry eye" version of it but over the counter supplements are arguably just as good if not better. I'm sorry you experience this and that it's worse in such a lovely place, no fun at all.

We did the aquarium tour and I was SO done with it when it was over. They are just pushing people through - yes, we could have gone back to some areas but all I wanted was some quiet - it was very crowded at the Atlantis.
If you want to have a look at the "walk" around Nassau, let me know and I'll PM you the link.

Yes - I would be very interested in this. I am one of those history geeks when it comes to traveling. I like to see historical and naturally scenic attractions more than crowded, man made ones.

So - :cool1: Yeah to a one BR at BCVs! That is awesome. I am going to waitlist at both BCV and BWV for October and see which comes through. I know one of them HAS too!

Hope Tom is feeling better!

I can't see your lap top covers right now, but I bet they are very cute.

I am SO doing a wine tasting on the Dream. Can't wait!

:cool1: Woo Hoo to be in the teens! pixiedust:

Sounds like a lovely last day. The food at Palo looks so good. And I like the idea of relaxing with a final adult beverage on deck.

:dance3::woohoo::woohoo::dance3:DCL travel booklet and luggage tags just arrived!!!!!!!!!!:dance3::woohoo::woohoo::dance3:

Makes it feel so real and so close! I can't believe we will be on CC this day in three weeks!

I know ........ since I hate wearing something, I usually borrow one of Tom's baseball hats and then I have to make them pretty tight as I again, hate it if it "wobbles". :rotfl2: The tight hat gives me a headache then. I do have one of the Disney straw hats, but it has a wide rim and doesn't really cover the space between the glasses and my eyes.
But thanks for all the recommendations! The only thing I was offered here was the medication I use, but we will stop at a drug store before driving to the port to pick up some of the single serve medication you recommended. Tom has saved all the information. Thank you SOOOOOOO much for all your help!

I'll send you the link in a PM. It's a real nice walk that touches down on a lot of the sights in Nassau. :thumbsup2

We were both so happy to snatch BCV at the 7 month mark. We have been at YC, but never at BC, and Cynthia already recommended the quiet pool there! :woohoo:

Tom is getting better, slowly, but surely.

Check your Navigator daily and thoroughly every day during the cruise. They have a lot of fun activities for adults every day. Wine tastings are fun, but we did a Champagne tasting once and that was really awesome. :thumbsup2

Sounds like a lovely last day. The food at Palo looks so good. And I like the idea of relaxing with a final adult beverage on deck.

We love the days at sea. So peaceful and they have too much yummy food around. ;)
We usually end our days out on the veranda with a drink. Tom loves his American beers and I usually purchase a bottle of Silverado to enjoy during the cruise. :thumbsup2
