I know, I know! I haven't completed this trip report, and its 2010 now!
I'm here now though, lol.
I'm sorry to say that I don't have any photos of this part of the trip, and when you start to read about what happened, you'll probably understand why we weren't in the mood to be taking photos, lol.
So we woke up the next morning (heading home day) and high tailed it over to Downtown Disney so that we could get our Free Gift from Planet Hollywood! (we got a voucher for it in our WDW reservation package).
We walked around for a bit and went into World of Disney and did some shopping for a few things to bring home for ourselves and family back home.
Then we walked over to Planet Hollywood and discovered that our voucher got us this tiny little Planet Hollywood keychain..... it was nice, and free of course, but probably not worth the long walk in the burning heat of the sun that we did, lol.
After that we had to head back to the All Star Movies Resort because we'd be needing to catch our bus to the airport soon.
Everything was pretty uneventful, we got on the bus (loving the air conditioned buses, lol) and waited for a few others to board and then headed off to the airport.
Now, this is where it gets interesting....
When we were about 15 or so minutes from the airport my mom got a look of panic on her face.
SHE HAD FORGOTTEN TO CHECK THE SAFE IN THE ROOM BEFORE LEAVING AND BOTH HER AND MY BROTHERS PASSPORTS WERE STILL IN THERE BACK AT THE HOTEL IN WDW!!!
Just a little reminder, we are all from Canada, and so we really NEED those passports in order to get home, so we have to have them.
She was really upset and almost crying, but for some reason I wasn't too worried. We still had a few hours before we needed to be on our plane, and I figured we would have enough time to either take the bus or a taxi back and grab the passports and then be back in time.
So we get to the airport and head straight to the Disney Desk to let them know what happened, and to see if we should go get it or if it was possible for the hotel to send the passports with the driver of the next bus.
They told us not to worry and that they'd get the passports from the safe and have them brought over in time for our flight.
Ok, so disaster averted..... right?......no?....uhoh!
So we sat and waited and waited for someone to come with our passports, and the time got closer and closer to our departure time, still no passports...
I asked again at the desk for an update, did they even have the passports yet, were they on their way?
The man told me they were on their way but they didn't no exactly how far away they were still.
Lets just say we missed our flight...
The man up at US Airways was super nice and told us, they coudl get us on the next flight and that it wouldn't be a problem. (No extra charge thank goodness). He said to just worry about getting the passports first, and then come talk to him and he'd get us set up for the next flight.
So we go back down to the Disney Desk, and still no one can tell us anything about where our passports are, which is freaking out my mom even more, because we have no idea who has them or where they are.
I was getting upset at this point because we had already missed one flight, and I knew that we could have taken a taxi back, grabbed the passports and been back in time for our first flight, but the Disney Reps told us not to, that they would get them for us....
So we're waiting still and the clock rolls past the next flight time, and still no passports.
I went to the desk again and talked to a different Disney Rep, a lady, who seemed to be in a management position, she was super nice in trying to calm us and figure out what was going on. I broke down and cried to her that we'd missed two flights, and now there were no more flights going out that day, we had no idea where our passports were, and that if they had just let us go ourselves we'd have been back with them by now!
Thats when she let us in on a little detail:
There was a security issue happening at WDW and no one was being let in or out of the property, including the person who had our passports.
So this is why they we're here yet, and no one would tell us this until now.
She never went into details about what the security issue was of course, but at least now we were getting a truthful answer.
FINALLY, after waiting for at least 6 hours at the airport, heck maybe even 7hrs I can't remember now, the woman who was working with us came up to us with the missing passports and we had a bit of relief.
Then she told us that they wanted to make things right for us, especially since we had been under so much stress all day.
Disney was going to set us up in a room back at the Movies resort for the night (since we had to wait until morning for the next flight), and there would be no charge.
We were so relieved, and the airline didn't even charge us to change flights!
So after such a stressful, scary day, things were having a happy ending!
So back to the hotel we went where we all just wanted to relax and get to sleep after a long day.
Oh and did I mention that I had a 2.5 yr old with us at the airport, waiting around in one spot for the whole 6-7 hours? Whew, I have to give him credit, he was getting cranky, but for the amount of time it was, he did REALLY good and only had 1 or 2 little meltdowns. But I can't blame him, he had no idea why we had to sit around for so long and why we couldn't just get on the plane.
The next morning we made SURE we had the passports (they did NOT get put in the safe again!) and headed back to the airport for another shot at going home.
And guess what!?
We made it to the flight in time, nothing left behind, and made our long journey back home to BC, Canada.
So all in all, we had a good time, and it all turned out in the end.
Thanks for reading my trip report.
THE END
