we are extremely limited with having 3 children (should have listened to dh after #2 lol), but hey i didn't so we can't stay in budget as they only cater for 2 adults/ 2 children, we don't want a villa as we want to be near the action, and i don't feel hiring a villa would be of benefit with all the driving, so was looking at the fort wilderness lodges, they cater for the size of our family, its on disney but somehow different, plenty to do whilst not at the parks, we are thinking of going late sep next year or may 2008, i know its far of, but we have to save so wondering who to book with, i have tried travel city direct, but they don't seem to do fw, anyone stayed here, can we book direct and then sort out flights, which would be cheapest?? also what is the different between fw and wl??

thanks janexx

You could book a fly drive with whoever is the best vlaue for you and then book your accomdation seperately.

I haven't stayed at FW but I have visited and it is great fun :)

It is very big and there are internal buses to get around the campsite. I think the cabins are a great solution for families of 5 :)

I would also book direct with WDW for the cabin and a fly drive separately.

FW is a campground (although it doesn't bear much similarity to any campground I've stayed at in the UK!), WL is a deluxe resort.

At FW you can bring your own tent / RV or stay in one of the cabins. At WL you'd be in a hotel room or one of the Disney Vacation Club self-catering villas.

BTW, I don't know whether you've looked any further than the budget resorts, but POR ( a moderate) can sleep 5 with a trundle bed in the room. You wouldn't have the range of in-room facilities that the cabins at FW provide, but it would have hotel amenities that you don't have at FW.

We've been thinking the same for our trip.
I've been following the Camping forum here :)

Hi have you considered Port Orleans Riverside, it is a moderate Disney Hotel & although we have stayed in most of the deluxes we always spend some time each trip in POR as it is just so beautiful, the river winding through the middle of the hotels grounds, lots of lovely pools, the excellent food court, the boat to Downtown Disney,
all of these things make for a wonderful time and in the Bayou section of this hotel the rooms sleep 5, although one of the beds is a trundle bed so may only be suitable for a smallish child.
Whatever you decide, I am sure you will have a great time. :Pinkbounc

Have you considered the new 'Family Suites' at Disneys All Star Resorts? You'll find info on them over on the resorts board. I think they sleep 5!?!

Or a Deluxe Room at Disneys Wilderness Lodge? Im not sure what the price difference would be between a cabin and a room, but these rooms offer a Living room (with DVD player) and a sofa bed, a bedroom seperated by french doors with 2 queen beds

We stayed in one of the cabins in 2000. We had an excellent time. I would thoroughly recommend it. We are a family of 4, me, DH and 2 DD's who were 3 and 6 at the the time of the trip. We loved the peace and quiet of the resort. It's unbelievable how quiet it is. We never used the car and had no problems with the WDW transportaion. I must admit, it did take us a couple of days to get used to it!

The only negative thing for me was the lack of drawers and closet space. I like to unpack our suitcases and put the clothes away. However we were unable to unpack all of our stuff there. We had to put a couple of the suitcases up on the bed that we weren't using so that we could get stuff out as we needed it. Having said that we did go in Dec so we had to take extra stuff with us because we weren't quite sure what the weather was going to be like!
