We have AP's - what's best to do?

I am seriously considering doing the dining plan on a five night trip next year.

But, we're AP holders. We will probably be letting our AP's lapse after February, because we get them at the military rate, which is the same if you renew or not (and always the best deal for us).

The dining plan would require us to purchase a 1 day admission per person. What could we do with them?

Could we hang onto them and apply them toward new AP purchases at Shades of Green at the military rate?

Also, I am concerned about getting the dining plan changing our reservation from room only, with a 6 day cancellation policy, to a package where we have to send in $$ in advance and can't cancel without huge penalties.

Part of me really wants to try the dining plan, and another part of me feels like this is way too many hoops to jump through.

What do you think the best thing to do would be, for us?

TIA!

IMHO, the DDP for next year is not a deal. The price dropped a dollar( :sad2: ) but they took away the appy and the gratuity. You are now responsible for the gratuity.

With your AP, you can purchase the DDE for $65. You get 20% off most TS meals and some CS meals. If you have an AP, sounds like you come back during the year. The DDE is good for a year.

I know many folks love the prepaid aspect of the DDP, can you tell I am not one of them ?:rotfl:

The other thing to consider with the DDP is there is no refund on unused credits. Let's say someone gets sick in the family. You have to cancel a meal or 2. Those credits are not refundable. If you can get another meal or signature meal AND your family member is up to it, you may be able to recoup it.

I once had the Norwalk-like virus at Disney  :scared1: . I ate nothing but room service chicken soup for 3 days. I was too sick to pack and go home early. I also came down with a bug on anther trip. Very un-Disneylike let me tell you.

But these things do happen. The other factor is the planning factor. I don't want to HAVE to be somewhere at a certain time or track credits the whole trip. The one time we did DDP I felt it was all about the meal plan. Hated it.

Comes down to why do you want to do the meal plan. Will it work for your family?

Good luck deciding!

I would like to let you know, that when you change your room only reservation to a package you have to cancel your room only and make a new reservation. This means they will refund you what you have already paid, and then you have to send them a new deposit for the new reservation. I found this out last year, it was kind of a pain to me. I had almost paid most of my trip and then I had to resend it to then when I received my refund check from them. they can't just transfer it from one reservation to another. I don't think the dining plan it really worth it, I purchased the DDE card.
