We have a skunk that comes nightly and is eating our garden and digging up our yard.:eek: How can we encourage him to move away?

bb in the behind... from very far away!

One of our Labs got skunked a few weeks ago so we have done a bunch of research. One idea I found in a bunch of sites was to take an empty soda can, put a rag in it and add ammonia. The skunks hate the smell and the rag acts as a wick to keep the smell going for a while.

We haven't tried it yet since the skunks haven't been around but I have ammonia and I will use it next time I see their stinky behinds! Having the girls skunked was nearly unbearable and we DO NOT want to go thru that again!

He is looking for grubs to eat. Put some Grubex on the lawn NOW! You can't see them but he knows they are there.

when you find out let me know, I have four:eek::scared:

Like Shelly said, get rid of the food source & they will move on. Digging indicates grubs, which is not good on several levels 1). They eat the roots of your grass, soon you will be able to pull your yard up like a carpet. 2). Vermin start to dig your yard up to eat the grubs....

I have done this it works. We had a skunk living under my shed, the animal control people here told me to use the rag and ammonia method. It worked and he hasn't been back since.

Beat me to it. Next door neighbor had the same problem, which became my problem. That sucker decided to come live with us. Dug a hole right under the concrete. Had a hell of a time getting rid of him. after the grub situation got taken care of he moved on.

Two suggestions:

MOTHBALLS. We had a family of skunks living under our deck/porch. I tossed two boxes of mothballs under there and they left. My Dad says they dislike the smell.

A RADIO. My Mom has a radio playing in her barn, where they have a squirrel problem. Apparently they don't like the noise of the radio because it makes them nervous that people are close by. Maybe that will work to deter squirrels as well. It doesn't have to be loud, just loud enough that they can hear it and get nervous.

Call animal control, if they won't take care of it ask them for a name of a critter catcher who will. Also try calling pest companies, they sometimes have critter catchers.

We scattered around moth balls and lemon peels and our skunk moved out after a few days, but he was living near our house, not digging. I think digging sounds like you need to address the grubs too... but can't hurt to try the moth balls and lemon peels :)
