trying to figure out where can we get and should we go 2 bedroom and a studio or 3 studios...

really want to stay at Boardwalk,,,any thoughts or suggestions

Staying together is fun, but having your own breathing room (no pun) after spending all day together can be nice.

I like having at least one "living room" area where we can gather. If that's not important, then go with the 3 studios. Are there children in the mix? If so, they may need to go to sleep earlier and that's another reason to have a common area, put the kids in the bedroom and still you can visit together.

If the owner is going, get the two bedroom so the owner can have the king sized bed.

We have done large groups both ways but we definitely prefer the individual studios over everyone staying together. We did 11 earlier this year in 5 studios at BCV and it was marvelous to be able to get away from each other. It was so much better than when we have done the 2 2-bedrooms prior.

If the points work out, maybe you could get one 1-BR and two studios. That way you would have at least one full kitchen and a living area in which everyone could gather. Privacy for all plus one gathering space and laundry room too (without going to those provided in the hotel).

Our last few trips had 15 people and two 2 bedrooms and a studio worked fine for us. It depends how many separate families you have. We had 5 so it fit nicely into the mix of rooms we got.

What about doing half and half? This next trip there will be a big group of us and we are doing the THV for 5 nights and then getting our own 1 bedrooms for the remaining 6 nights.

We have a large group going this October. We have 2 two bedrooms. One room is for a large family with kids. The other is the adults only room. Hopefully, it will work out well. :)

I will post after the trip if things go horribly wrong.

A lot depends on the make up of your group. We have done a lot of mix and match where we put the teenage girls in one bd and us in the other and the boy and his parents in the studio then switched resorts and gave another couple the studio. With a different group we stayed with my in-laws which we don't see often along with our kids and put the two couples who live near the in-laws in a different 2bd.

You would know who gets along and who would need space. We do like the idea of having the living room and full kitchen.

There are 15 of us going in Apr and we decided and 1 - 2BDR and 3 Studios....first we thought being altogether would be great and everyone said they didn't care. However I knew my dad and stepmom would want a break from my yound adult sisters (and vice versa)!! Plus they sleep late and can take advantage of night EMH where those of us with younger kids most likely will turn in earlier - and be up earlier. ;) We did want the kitchen and LR for a couple of family dinners and DH & I are spoiled and don't see a studio in the near future. So we did:

2BDR - Me, DH, DDs (age 3& 6 then), DSis, DBIL and their son (age 8).

St 1- dad and stepmom
St 2 - mom and stepdad
St 3 - DSis 21 and DSis 18(whose HS grad we are celebrating) and their boyfriends

We requested to be in the same area but other than that I think everyone will enjoy their own space.

FWIW- we have traveled with my DMIL &FIL all in one room and it was a BAD idea - we had not one minute of privacy - down to them walking into our bedroom whenever they felt like it !!!

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I'd sure read some of the numerous "group trip nightmare" threads and apply as much of the knowledge you gain as you can to your trip.

Large groups are obviously much more difficult than just taking your family to begin with, and when you are providing the lodging your problems multiply.

If you can, I would put each unit (family, pals, whatever) within your group in a separate villa. 1BR for your immediate family (unless there are too many of you) and studios for everybody else. That way when people bail out on you, you will be able to cancel reservations in manageable chunks.

We are going in June also with My husband & I, our daughter & Niece. Our four married children and spouses and 7 grand children 2yrs to 9 yrs old. That makes 19 and we have 3 2 bdrms. We have a few more children then last time we came so we added a third suite. We are staying at SSR our home.

I think the first thing you need to check out is the available number points you'll be able to use.

Magic Season begins June 11, 2010. The following figures use standard views only:

a Studio runs 13/23 per night (weekday/weekend rates)
1 BR - 28/42
2 BR - 38/44

That's quite a bit of difference. It looks like during the week you can have three studio villas for 1 point more than a 2 BR. But there's no full kitchen for anyone. You didn't mention how many families, number of adults and children etc.

We have a family group of eleven that gathered together last June. We did not stay at a DVC resort since we had just bought our points two weeks before the planned trip. We had three separate rooms, 3 adults in one and 2 families in the other two (2 adults and 2 kids each).

It worked out well, but there were times I wished we had a living room for at least one of the rooms, somewhere we could all gather to discuss things.
But in our case which family would we give the nicer villa to? We plan on our next gathering to two 2 bedrooms--one family + one adult and the second family + a couple. For us it'll be fair to everyone and we all have access to the kitchen, a living room and a washer and dryer.

Good Luck on getting your desired reservation!

I agree with Jim. We are doing a big family thing next year and have 1 2BR and two studios. With folks' plans changing, if necessary, I can always cancel a studio or two if I need to...and get my points back (within the normal restrictions).

Excellent advice - My group of 15 for Christmas week is now down to 6 - I originally had 3 2brs reserved and now have two - will cancel the next one closer to the cut off date just in case someone changes their mind or in one case can get the time off after all. Had the various family groups set up so I could do this, having tried a large group trip before with results that ended up with points in holding. Am still hoping the one group can get the time off. Of course then the airfare will be out of sight but we will deal with it.

May want to get studios.. it's good to have some "away time" imho.

We are going with 9 summer '10. We are staying at the THV with my brother and his family.. I'm a little nervous about staying with all those family members for that long.. hoping for the best..
