we emptied out "Disney" jar....I've gotta brag!!

Congrats!!! Have fun spending that money!!!

I am going to tuck even more into my jar for our upcoming trip and cruise in November....I can't wait to see how much we have...My dd (3) and ds (12) also each have a bank and DH has been putting atleast $1 per day in them. They are getting pretty full!!! I know that we all will have fun spending our money!!

That is awesome!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We do this very same thing! The most we have ever had is $350, but we only do change. I need to start sneaking in some bills! ::yes::

Have a blast going nuts!!!

Thanks for all the congrat's

I noticed a few of you mentioned taking the "jar" to the bank :( That's all the fun ~ you are missing out. We always count our own money. The girls have so much fun dumping it I've gotten some really great pictures with true smiles!!

After we get it all out we separate the cash from the coins. Then the hard part...sorting the coins and stacking them so they are easy to count. The pennies are the worst. They take forever we stack them in stacks of five rows of ten. We had over $14 in pennies. They really add up! Once every think is stacked we take a picture naturally :) Actually, the stacks looked so nice I didn't have the heart to take them off my living room rug. It looks like the Federal Reserve.....lol

We are keeping enough quarters and pennies to fill up their smashed coin books. The rest will go onto the credit card before we leave. The girls will have a daily allowance of $20 to do spend however they want. They are 11 & 9 so I am interested in seeing how they budget their selves. We are also going to let them pick out a pin each day (8 day trip).

We always watch our spending and try to cut corners when we can. We take several vacations a year that way. We are driving so we are going to stop at a Pubix and grab some breakfast foods and snack items. I booked one "big" meal a day mostly lunches because it is a little cheaper.

Our one big splurge is Cirque du Soleil!!! We have always wanted to go but it was always out of the budget. I was able to get awesome seats. We are on one of the four seat rows on the second level and we are on the 1st row!!! I can go to the restroom with out disturbing anyone ;)

What other questions did I see??? humm, the jar. The jar is a Kentwood bottle ~ I have been meaning to decorate it with clip art but for now it is just plain. And YES it was very heavy!! But, the girls were able to get it out of my room down the stairs and they almost made it to the living room. Getting the bills out can be tricky.

Another hint I will share is that I buy the girls coins from them. I don't know if it is a girl thing but they will have like $5 in coins busting out of their wallet. Oh, and we made homemade chocolate chip cookies for the garage sale. You wouldn't believe it but they sold over $10 in cookies at .25 for 2 :earseek: and $5 in kool-aid!! Next time I will buy bottled water ~ we'll have a concession stand........lol

Well, I better wrap up this book! I hope that this helps someone to start a Disney jar :) I am so glad I did ~ it is something the girls will remember and hopefully do when they have a family.

Have a wonderful weekend ~ and a safe and Happy Easter!!

That is an impressive total! Congratulations! :)

Congrats on your saving.

A side note - my boys sold Lemonade & Pepsi at our garage sale and made quite a bit of $. But we learned to have Diet too. ;) Lots of people bought the lemonade because they thought my boys were just so cute.

Just wanted to say congratulations Kajunswty.

I hope you have a wonderful, magical time worthy of your patience and determination!

The way things are right now our coin jar ends up being "Make it till Payday money".

I wish you and your family the best trip ever with pixie dust abound
:p

That's a wonderful amount saved! You deserve to brag! DD counted our jar last weekend and we had just about $55.

Wow, I thought we had a lot for our trip this past Feb but we only had 650.00. lol

Good job!! I told my DH and now he's on a mission to beat your total, he just took off through the house searching for money. ;)

How long did you save for? how big was your jar? lol

lol Palmtreegirl :)

Tell him to check under the sofa cushions that's always good for a couple of coins.

We had been saving since our '01 trip so it has been 3 years. It is fun to count when you have no idea how much is in it. I think the only time we took from it was when the "tooth fairy" needed to borrow a few dollars but he paid it back ;)

It is a 5 gallon Kentwood jug and it was 3/4 full.

Have a great weekend ~ we sure will we'll be packing!! ::yes::

I am going to have to learn to be that discipline. I spend all of my money including my change!

Your family did AWESOME! I have about $150 saved in mine since about January but that is beginning to slow down a bit as like you I am scheduled on the Grandeur of the Seas in 27 days. Have a wonderful time on both of your vacations.

FILLING PENNY SLEEVES WAHOOO!!!
ALWAYS LETS MY KIDS KNOW WE ARE GOING ON VACATION!!!

"THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!!
:jester: :jester: :jester:

WOW!! That's impressive!! We have a big 5-gallon glass water jug that we dump our change in every night. We cashed it out in September for our family trip to Europe and started collecting again in October when we got back. The kids love finding coins on the sidewalk, under couch cusions, or in the laundry room and go to dump them in the "vacation jug"!! We just cashed ours out last week (after 5 months of collecting) and had around $130.00. I'm going on a solo trip in April (actually going to Orlando for business, but spending a few days at WDW), and I'm using it to bring back some things for the kids, since they can't go with me. We're starting again this week to get ready for our trip in November.

My back hurts just thinking about lugging in all that loot. Great job!

I had taken our coins in last month and we had $672.20. I could barely lift it.

We have been saving our change for ~ 2years. My husband was always better at not spending his change but since we decided it would be Disney spending money I NEVER use change. It all goes in the jars! We have 3 BIG jars full now. Can't wait to take them in and see how much it is.
I had a yard sale yesterday, stuff that had mostly been stored in the attic, made $140 in 3 hours!
Will THE DAY ever get here!!
:upsidedow

Just so I don't get tempted, I roll the silver and when I get $50 I buy Disney Dollars. I've got $350 now and we don't leave this year until Nov. This seems to work for us.

Wow, that's inspiring. The most we ever saved in change was around $350. But since we will be skipping a year this time, maybe we get to the $1,000 mark.
