Hello everyone,
We left for Disney on April 17th, me, DH, DD10 and DS4.5. We pulled out of our driveway in NH at 4:20 AM and had a very uneventful drive, couldn't have gone smoother. With a few gas stops/bathroom breaks, we pulled in to Roanoke Rapids, NC at about 5:30 PM or so. We checked in to a Sleep Inn at exit 173 off of interstate 95 for $59. for the night including Con. breakfast. It was clean, immediately off the highway, with a small indoor pool and extremely close to gas stations, restaurants and a Walmart. We ate at the Texas Steakhouse across the street and it was very very good.
We were back on the road by 6:30 AM and decided to bring the kids to Daytona Beach on the way. We were driving on the beach by 4:30 PM, it was beautiful. Stayed there an hour or so (that sand is like glue, very hard to get off, it stayed on the running boards of the Expedition thru a major rainstorm! LOL!) We weren't due to check in to the Vistana Villages until the 19th, but since we made such good time, I called Hotel Kingdom and inquired about checking in a day early and we were able to. We checked in by 7:45 PM and were just blown away by the resort - beautifully decorated, easily nagivated, extremely clean rooms/bathrooms and a beautiful view.
We checked out on sunday the 28th about 10:00 AM and made it back to the same hotel in VA about 7:00 PMish - we had been heading toward that tornado in MD and decided not to drive any further. We left there the next morning by 5:30 and pulled in our driveway by 6:30 that night...a few frightening moments when a tractor trailor lost it's wheel and rubber flew everywhere causing cars to skid and stop suddenly, thankfully we avoided an accident. Another car hours later lost it's entire wheel while driving down an exit ramp and it flew up, hit a speed limit sign, and went up over the roof of the truck about 10 feet above us, our hearts skipped a beat then for sure, but it missed us...I was white knuckled and ready to be home by that time, had only an hour to go, everyone was silent after that one...talk about a freak incident...
We had a fantastic time and can't wait to do it all again next year. I'd be happy to answer any questions for anyone. Thanks for reading this.
