we don't need no stinking dining plan! we'll eat what we want, when we want!

time for the ugly...the most disasterous meal of the trip... POP food court for dinner. I know, I will never learn, but come on! surely not EVERY meal there is bad, right? this one was just plain terrible!

DD got the nasty mac and cheese again although i tried to talk her out of it remiding her of the nastiness of last time. she apparently has a short term memory and she paid for it.

even worse than last time. more burnt...more crunch mac... less creamy mac underneath. pretty sure this tray of mac and cheese was under a heat lamp from a month ago. just plain gross. poor DD... her dinner ended up being yogurt and pudding, which by now she was sick of! a few more options other than yogurt, cookie, pudding, grapes, or carrots please!

I got the shrimp and grits thinking, mmm...cheesy grits and shrimp. 2 good things that should be good together. oh my, this was the worst dish of the trip. just plain wrong...

I gave you 3 pics to make sure you could see how disgusting this meal was. I waited 5 minutes and thought, great! it will be fresh! it came in a chinese box and I knew there was trouble when I opened it. that red liquid stuff that the shrimp is swimmin in? that is GREASE. yes, my shrimp was in a gigantic bath of grease. the cheese grits were buried under the 1/2 inch thick bath of grease. I pulled up some of the grits on the spoon for you to see. this was simply inedible. the bacony greasy stuff was just gross. This was seriously the worst tasting dish ever. I had a stomachache after only a few bites. It looked gross, it smelled gross, it tasted gross! want a heart attack and indigestion? look no farther! YUCK!

Total cost: $19.15 in cash and an hour of a tummy ache... worst money I spent the entire trip...

breakfast again at POP.

decided to go with sweets the next morning on the way to epcot.

DD got the chocolate muffin.

had a hard sugar coating on the top of the muffin. she ended up liking it but I wasn't sure she was gonna at first. it was pretty big. she only ate half of it and proclaimed herself "done".

I got this:

I ate it, but wasn't impressed by it. It was hard and tasted "not so fresh" but so do a lot of the pastries in Disney (in my opinion). nothing to write home about. who cares though? we're going to Epcot, where the food is actually good, right?!

total cost: $9.55 for 2 breakfast treats and 2 milks.

snacktime in Epcot.

stopped by the cart near Figment and got a pretzel. Man, there is nothing better than a fresh warm pretzel with runny warm cheese! too bad this wasn't that...

the pretzel was big and warm, but not soft or doughy. it was a crunchy, hard pretzel. I'm sure it was under the "cooker" for way too long!

and the cheese?

the flavor was not bad but the temp and consistency was not good. It was the hard consistency of a velveeta stick and was room temperature like a velveeta stick. I'm sure this would have been really good warmed up. It would have been melted and the proper consistency to dip, but at room temp it was just a hard mess.

bummed out by our first snack at Epcot... oh well, lunch was coming soon!

total cost: $9.50 for 2 hard pretzels and 2 funky cheeses

lunch at Sunshine Seasons

Not my first choice since I've eaten here so many times but at least a good selection and no mac and cheese in sight!

DD and I both got the kids meal with a drumstick, mashed potatoes, milk, and yogurt and applesauce respectively.

the chicken leg was well cooked and juicy! the mashed potatoes were very flavorful and good too! and the portion was huge on the mashed potatoes for a kids meal! I was full after the chicken leg and mashed potatoes. I saved the applesauce for later. DD ate every last bite of potatoes and chicken but didn't want her yogurt so I ate it for dessert as she dived into the m&m cookie. it was a huge cookie. she could only eat about 1/2 of it. I nibbled a bit of it and it was one of the better cookies I tried over vacation. tasted fresh and yummy.

yay to sunshine seasons! nice meal for the gals today!

Total cost: $14.89 for 2 kids meals and an additional cookie.

snacktime in Norway! decided to get a sweet treat! I have heard a lot about the school bread so I decided to see what all the hype is about.

the breat part truly is the taste/consistency of a dinner roll. bready, not like a cake or a pastry puff, or even a donut. the middle had a LOT of yummy pudding filling that was sweet and good! the coconut on top was not overpowering. I did not think I was gonna like it at first when I was only eating the bread part but then I hit the filling and man, oh man! That filling was so good I could eat it by the bucketfull!

DD got lefse, which I had never heard of. the worker said it was a potato bread roll up with butter and cinnamon.

she only ate 1 bite and didn't like it. I tried it. It was ok. the potato bread part was the part that was a little different and not so good to me. not sweet at all and it didn't taste right with the butter/cinnamon filling to me. Good thing it was only $2! a cheap mistake!:)

total cost: $4.99

to Germany for more snacks!

stopped in the caramel shop to get some snacks "to go" for later.

I got a pretzel stick with caramel, chocolate, and pecans.

It was very good, but not worth the $4 I paid for 1 stick! very overpriced for only 1 stick.

DD got a caramel apple.

it looked good and DD ate it, but the one from Goofy's looked a bit better in my opinion...

total cost: $11.17

Thanks for sharing your reviews! Just wanted to say that your manicure is awesome!

after a long day of walking we had dinner at AOA landscapes again. poor DD had not had any mac and cheese all day long!:rotfl:

she rectified that problem:

good mac and cheese here...just like in the past!

I did the build your own salad:

I can't remember all that they had to choose from but I know there was chicken, shrimp, beef, a few different lettuce choices, cheesse, corn, cranberries, croutons, tofu, endmame, peas, green olives, onion, jalepenos, carrots, egg, and more. fresh and yummy! enough for 2 meals! this salad was huge! Would eat this again!

yay AOA food court! definitely better than POP!:hyper:

total cost: $18.09

breakfast at POP again. This time we both opted for the kids meal with mickey waffles, bacon, and chicken sausage. we both passed on the fruit that comes with it.

yummy again! I could eat these waffles every morning for the rest of my life. it also seems to be the one meal that you can count on POP to make without screwing it up somehow. The chicken sausage, which I had not tried earlier in the week, was pretty good! actually better than the bacon, which is always floppy at Disney for some reason no matter where you go! Yay for mickey waffles with milk!

Total cost: $10.63

To epcot we go for lunch at Boulangerie Patisserie.

Spent the whole day in the country section doing the Agent P missions with DD, which were so fun! never tried this before but it was a blast! we did every last country and DD was bummed when there were none left. Stopped in France for lunch at the Patisserie!

DD picked the Croque Monsieur (ham and cheese toasted):

not very good. DD would not eat it. I tried it thinking we would just trade sandwiches. I didn't like it either. I can't even tell you why I didn't like it. Just an odd taste. expensive little booger too!

I had the ham and bechamel on a croissant:

this one was good! toasty warm and flaky goodness. My DD liked it too unfortunately. We ended up splitting it. YUM!!!!

but let's face it: we came for the dessert! I got a chocolate eclaire:

inside:

it was pretty yummy, but very rich! I needed a long drink after eating that thing!

DD got the chocolat tarte:

I think we both assumed it was all chocolate but there was a filling under the chocolate we could not identify.

ended up being caramel cream I think. neither of us liked the caramel cream so it was left unfinished.

mostly yummy here but DD didn't make very good choices. I ended up sharing too much here for my taste!:rotfl:

total cost: $25.05

exhausted from missions around the country we returned to POP for swimming and dinner...at the POP food court. we were wiser this time...DD refused to get the mac and cheese again (thank goodness) and I decided to get something very hard to screw up!

DD got the kids hamburger meal. which came on a fish bread??? whatever... I stopped trying to justify POP's food a long time ago!

It was edible enough. DD ate the burger, fish bread and all. the patty was as thin as a regular mcdonalds burger. fries were floppy and old, as we have come to expect from food courts.

i got the tuna croissant with pasta salad.

hey, I loved it! the croissant was a multi grain type of bread, the tuna salad seemed fine, it had fresh cucumber and tomato on it. the pasta was a wheat pasta and well flavored. I actually enjoyed the meal! yay, I found something edible for lunch/dinner!

for dessert we got a few treats to take back to our room for later:
generic chocolate cupcake

generic supermarket taste. nothing special.

and the "king cupcake" I have heard so much about. chocolate cupcake, banana filling, peanut butter icing, chocolate drizzle, and candied bacon sprinkles. sounds disgusting... got it out of curiosity.

I ended up liking it! loved the peanut butter icing. it was light and fluffy. loved the bacon! could have lived without the banana filling, but hey, I can eat around that!

total cost for meal: 15.96
total dessert cost: $2.44 for cupcake and $4.25 for king cupcake.
paid those all separately.

breakfast at POP

hey, if it isn't broken, don't fix it:

me and DD have both been programmed to get this every morning now! probably not too exciting for you to see it again, but our tummies were happy to eat it again!

$10.63

skipped lunch and opted for a snack instead at epcot. went to African Outpost

DD got a rootbeer float:

and I got a twist waffle cone:

got them in the world showcase. nothing special. Just nice and cool on a hot day! DD decided she likes ice cream and she likes root beer, but not so much together. oh well, more ice cream for me!

Total cost: $8.60

Oh boy, I hope this food was more delicious than it looks. But thanks for sharing the experience.

Early dinner tonight since we skipped lunch! off to AOA one last time for our final dinner...

DD got the kids pizza. yogurt and pudding for the side items.

i got the create your own pasta and it was good! I put in some sort of crazy pasta that I don't know the name of, alfredo sauce, chicken, fresh broccoli, and mushrooms. it was cooked right in front of me and put in a to go box with a garlic bread.

pic without the bread:

the kids pizza was itty bitty! tiniest meal for kids we saw all week long. I wondered if my DD was gonna still be hungry afterwards but I did not have to worry...she saw my pasta and dug into it telling me it was nice for friends to share. she ate half of it, and I had half of it. we snacked on the pizza together afterwards. pizza really was not that bad for what it was! yummy crust! not enough cheese for my taste. the pasta was FABULOUS!!! fresh crunchy veggies, pasta was al dente...yummy any way you looked at it. even DD loved it! wish I would've tried it sooner and I would have eaten it again!;)

total cost: $18.09

our last dessert...

simple chocolate dipped ice cream cone for DD from POP:

and the infamous cheesecake from POP for me:

I will admit I am not a cheesecake fan to begin with, but I had to try it. It was thick and rich...exactly what I hate about cheesecake. I bet it is pretty good if you like cheesecake though. it did taste fresh!

no complaints about the ice cream cone!

Total cost: $7.55

and now we are home and i had to bring a bit of Disney with us to sort of "ease us off" of eating Disney...

the rice krispie heads are really good and fresh tasting, even 2 days later! the chocolate covered ears have too much chocolate on them and you can't even taste the pretzels or distinguish that they are mickey shaped. have not tried the pasta. saving that for a special day! I be it will be better than POP's though!:goodvibes

Mickey head rice krispie treats were $25.50 for 6
pretzels and pasta ran $48.57 but i also had a few sugar sticks on that bill.

so what did I learn? going to disney not on the dining plan is definitely more relaxing than with... and we had much more freedom. what else did I learn? eat at new places and find new favorites! oh yea, skip eating at the POP food court at all cost unless you are getting mickey waffles...there is a reason they put a bridge right there leading to the AOA food court....

Best restraunts of the trip: Cookes of Dublin and BOG
Best meal: Chicken pot pie from Cookes
Best dessert: BOG's passion fruit cream puff
Best snack: Sleepy Hollows nutella waffle with fruit...would be a good meal anytime too!
Most consistent food: POP century...but not for good reasons!
Worst meal: POP century's shrimp and grits... YUCK! run, run fast!
