Last year, my wife, my 5-year old daughter, and I attended a wedding between two male friends of ours at our church (it's a UU church - a banner saying "Civil unions is a civil right" hangs from our headquarters in Boston). The thing that really impressed me about the wedding was that it was just as dull as a heterosexual wedding, so I couldn't tell the difference.
DD5 could, though. She told DW and I that she had a problem with the wedding. We thought we were going to have that coversation that all UU parents have. No, DD was fine that two guys were getting married. "Where's the flower girl?" she wanted to know. She had been to two other weddings, and had been the flower girl at both. She felt passed up for the job, even though there wasn't one.
Congratulations to the two of you. Society is slow, but once this type of thing starts to move, it can't be stopped. Here's hoping we see it in our lifetimes. L'chaim!
