Hellooooooooooooooo humans!!!

Welcome to my “We couldn’t stay away…” PTR! For all the readers who are new, welcome! To all my old readers and friends, thanks for joining in once again! This PTR is for a trip that I never thought would be happening…I mean, we’re getting married in just over a year and we need to save all our hard earned money for the wedding and, of course, our Disneymoon! So, how did I end up being able to not only afford another trip, but convince my fiancé Chris that we should go? Well, you’ll just have to read on to find out! For anyone out there who was reading my short-lived June 2011 TR, you know I had an epic FAIL there. It was abandoned. Honestly, I think it was due to the Disney blues I was already having as soon as we got back and the fact that I was SURE we weren’t going to be back for so long! Or so I thought…

Anyway, this PTR will NOT be abandoned. I repeat, it will NOT be abandoned! I’m too excited to abandon it because instead of having to wait over 12 more months to be in our Happy Place, it will only be just over 3 months! That is amazing!!

First for some quick intros…I’m Kristen and I’m 24. My fiancé is Chris and he is 27. I’m 3 months away from finishing my Master’s degree in Adolescent Education and also work part time at a local credit union. Chris is a full time cable technician but his real loves are cars and sports, specifically hockey (Go Rangers!!) and football (Go Giants!!). We have been together for 4 ½ years and as you can see, we will be getting married October 28, 2012. Honestly, neither of us could be happier.

Here is us in our engagement pictures, taken in June at the Polynesian

And here we are last year on a trip we took at the same time as our BFFs, Tinkgurl and her fiancé

We are Disney fanatics. I’ve been for quite some time now but I finally feel comfortable adding Chris to that *elite* category that all us DISers belong in! When I said I had to convince Chris to go on this trip, it wasn’t because he didn’t want to go to WDW. Actually, it was HIM that got me to go and price out a trip! You see, last week Chris texted me while he was at work and I was student teaching and said “I really wish we could go to Disney again before our honeymoon.” Well, he certainly didn’t need to tell me twice! Only 3 days prior to that I had gotten an email for Disney Visa holders for a room only discount for January and February. I ignored it at the time but quickly logged on to Disneyworld.com on my phone and priced out a value resort for 4 nights at the beginning of January. Pop was my first thought but they only had preferred rooms left and this was going to have to be as cheap as possible. Long story short, ASMu was slightly cheaper and we’ve never stayed there so I went ahead and booked it, just in case!

My wheels got turning on how this would work and I realized that I could use this as part (most of) my Christmas presents from my parents! Chris could do the same and I’d pay for whatever they didn’t as part of my Christmas present to him! Here’s where the convincing came in. Chris wasn’t sure he wanted to “give up” other Christmas presents! Lol This would be the only way we’d be able to go because our money we have been saving could not be used for anything but the wedding and Disneymoon. At first, Chris was against it. No matter what I said, he wouldn’t agree. So, then I told him I was going either way and if he didn’t go, my mom would go with me. I told him I didn’t want Christmas to come and go, he get whatever presents that he wanted and then a week later, me be leaving for WDW with my mom and he regret his decision. He started to see where I was coming from but still was on the fence. 2 days later I get a text from another good friend of ours, Lauren (lauren_elizabeth on the DIS) telling me they were going at the end of January/beginning of February and that we should change our dates and go then. I went on Disneyworld.com again to check prices and found ASSp $20 cheaper for January 31-February 4 than ASMu would be earlier in the month. I texted Chris and told him Lauren’s and her beautiful family would be going and they wanted us to change our dates and go with them. His exact words? “If they’re definitely going, book it.” Wooooo!! Unfortunately, Lauren and her family aren't going now because they're going to Cancun in March! How sad for them!
Luckily, we're still going. Once I got the idea in Chris' head, he couldn't give it up!

ADDED OCTOBER 27:: We have two new travel partners to add to this trip! Our good friends, Joe and Sam! Let me give them some quick intros.

Joe is 22 and works with Chris at the cable company, which is how they met. The two of them actually got hired at the same time to the company, trained together, and moved shops together. They have a lot in common including (and especially) their love of cars. Joe currently goes to school as well for computers (not sure of his exact major).

Sam is 21 and has been Joe's girlfriend since she was 15! We actually all went to the same high school but because of our age differences, we didn't know each other until the boys started working together. Sam and I also go to the same college now, although she's doing her undergrad while I'm in grad school. She also works part time for Estee Lauder (aka she gets a lot of free makeup and perfume, lol).

Here are Joe and Sam

Here is Sam and I, out having fun over the summer (we're really sweaty in this pic, gross!)

ADDED OCTOBER 28:: Somehow we were able to save $25 per reservation if we switched our resort to Pop...so we did! Chris and I love it there!!

Here’s a little recap now:

Who? Chris, Joe, Sam and I

When? Jan. 31-Feb.4, 2012

Where? Pop Century Resort

pop.jpg

Why? Because we’re obsessed with Disney and couldn’t stay away!

Dining? No dining plan for Chris and I, but we will be eating quick service for all meals and breakfasts in the hotel room with food we bring…this will be the most BUDGET trip we’ve ever taken. Still looking forward to yummy QS Disney food…

Joe and Sam will have the dining plan. I made ressies for them and will add them later in the PTR!

Tickets? I am proud to announce Chris and I are officially WDW Annual Passholders for the first time! Well, not officially yet since we haven’t traded in our vouchers for the actual APs yet. But, you know what I mean! This was also part of the way I got Chris to agree to this trip. We were planning on buying APs when we went on our Disneymoon in October anyway, so we just are buying them now and that’s one less thing we need to worry about for later. Plus, this allows us to get the Tables in Wonderland card for 20% off almost all meals! Bonus!

I’m sure I’ve somehow forgotten something in all my rambling but I’ll get to it at some point! Hope you’re all in for a fun ride with us!! Thanks for reading!!

I'm here!

I am so jealous!!!! I wish Josh and I could go on a trip before our wedding!

I am so excited to hear about your plans!!!

Congratulations on becoming an AP holder and on your surprise trip!! :yay:

Such a nice time of year to travel too...when it is freeeeeeeeeeezing here in the NE :rolleyes1

Hi Kristen! I followed your link you posted. Can't wait to read all about it. What is your countdown??

Saw your link on the secret facebook group. ;) End of January will be a nice time to go. Usually the holiday crowds start to go down after New Year's. That's actually right before my sister comes home from the CP too.

Hey Sarah! I'm glad you saw the link, I hope others join too! I'm hoping it will be empty when we go...4 days isn't much so we'll be able to get a lot done if no one is there! Oh man, I bet she won't want to come home!

Thanks everyone for joining in! I’m so happy to have some old friends here as well as some new ones :) So, let’s get on with the show!

I’m going to make this first update about something every Disney addict loves…DISNEY FOOD! Unfortunately, we will not being doing the Disney Dining Plan this trip, nor will we be doing many table service meals. As I’ve said, this is a BUDGET trip! We love, love, loveeeee Disney TS meals but we have to keep this trip cheap! So, we’re doing 1 (possibly 2, but I’ll explain that) TS meal. Everything else will be counter service!

Let me first discuss our TS meal(s). One place we are definitely eating, and I’m really excited about this, is Il Mulino New York Trattoria in the Swan! I’d never even considered this restaurant before…but, I was on restaurant.com a few days ago and was able to snag a $25 gift certificate for only $4! Since we’ve never eaten here before, I checked out the menu and it sounds like a ton of delicious Italian food, which Chris and I just love! Has anyone ever eaten here before or heard any reviews? I’m totally a novice when it comes to Swan and Dolphin restaurants!

Some pictures of Italian food, just to make your mouths water!

friedcalamari.jpg

Now the next TS meal we’re going to definitely do is Beaches and Cream! I’m not sure whether we’ll do lunch or dinner here but I’m thinking lunch. Technically this is considered a TS meal in Disney’s eyes but, we don’t really consider it one. The food there is actually reasonably priced and the portions are plenty big! We ate there on our July 2010 trip and just loved the food, as well as the ice cream! Another No Way Jose is calling my name!!

For just two of us we won’t get one of these
kitchensink.jpg

But we WILL get one of these
nowayjose.jpg

Maybe Chris will order this
cheesesteak.jpg

No for our main source of sustenance on this trip, counter service meals! For breakfast, we’re going to bring food with us to have in our room. Probably cereal, pop tarts and/or granola bars. The only thing Chris might insist upon us having for breakfast outside of the room is Tonga Toast (my mouth is so watering right now) from Captain Cooks at the Poly.

Lunch and dinner the rest of the days/nights are going to most likely be in the parks which we’re fine with. I read a lot of people giving the CS in the parks a lot of flak but I don’t think we’ve ever had a CS meal that we thought was bad. Of course, it’s not gourmet but it’s always been good in our opinions! Here’s our list of favorites…I’m going to start off tonight with just the MK and then I’ll go on with the other parks in a later update!

Magic Kingdom:
cosmicrays.jpg

Cosmic Rays: I loveeee the turkey wrap from here and Chris always enjoys the burgers with lots of toppings from the toppings bar! He’s also had the Philly Cheesesteak from here which he’s enjoyed as well!

CHH.jpg

Colombia Harbour House: It’s a tight race but I think CHH is my favorite CS in the MK. I usually get the shrimp or the fish and chips and Chris is in love with the Tuna sandwich. He loves the bread! Another thing I love from here is the apple strudel dessert!

Snacks:

Two words and two words only…Dole Whip!
dolewhip.jpg

That’s all for tonight, let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions! Have a good night!

Hey love!!! I am here! You know I wouldn't miss your PTR for the world!!!

Hey Heather girl! I can't wait to hear about your girls trip!

I forgot to raise my arms in the air and scream so..AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

KRISTEN & CHRIS! WHAAAAAAT'S UP?!

(Jake picked out all of the smiley faces for you & what to say!)

Joining in! I have followed along on your other TRs (the one with Tink and you "abandoned" one) so i'm excited to join in here.

sounds like a great deal on restaurant.com for the Swan. We have eaten at 2 other places in the Swan and Dolphin and found them pretty good. We have wanted to try more, but Disney food is usually calling out to us.

Hey, of course I remember you from my other reports! Sorry about the "abandoned" one :guilty:

I'm really happy with the deal we got, I hope the restaurant is good! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the other restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin, that gives me hope!

Hey Meghan! What are your dates? Do we overlap?!

Ahh I wish, we're there January 4-11. So by the time you go, I will be very ready to hear all about it

I've never heard of the place in the Swan and Dolphin but Italian food is always good in my book. I really like CHH too, I have to go with Chris on the tuna sandwich...I love the bread!
